Guardian (Proxy), by Alex London

From School Library Journal Gr 8 Up—London creates an intricately high tech world in which the heroes find themselves on an action-packed quest to save humanity from a zombielike illness and thoroughly corrupt government. After the Jubilee and change in governments, Syd reluctantly finds himself the icon of the Reconciliation with a lovelorn bodyguard, Liam. Syd and Liam race against time and villains, all the while falling in love. This dystopian Detroit has the usual trappings of science fiction—hovercrafts, new ecosystems, gadgets—and the ideals of growing one's own food, communal property, equality, and the evil of debt. Much like Mao's Great Leap Forward (complete with a bedridden gangster leader and illegal "covetous" thoughts), people suffer while the government knowingly feeds off their misery. The message lacks subtlety: absolute power corrupts absolutely. This maxim is illustrated by the Council wittingly allowing people to die of the zombielike illness because the cure requires the rebuilding of the machine that once held them captive to corporations. The Council will destroy themselves if need be; they refuse to return to the old ways. Yet Syd and Liam are willing to fight to the death. Regrettably, Syd seems to have lost some of his moxy, and both characters are fairly two-dimensional, but Proxy (Philomel, 2012) fans will be satisfied with the constant action and the conclusion to Syd's story.—Laura Falli, McNeil High School, Austin, TX

Review Praise for Guardian:"Corrupt powers, budding romance, an epidemic and grisly action synthesize to sate sci-fi fans." —Kirkus Reviews "Proxy fans will be satisfied with the constant action and the conclusion to Syd’s story." —SLJ"Nonstop action and breakneck pace characterize this exceptional thriller…thought-provoking and breathtaking." —VOYAPraise for Proxy:“Looking for an awesome YA summer read? Look no further than Alex London’s Proxy.” —EW.com"Put down what you're doing and read this book. Right now. The complex characters, intricate world, and blistering pace are off-the-charts amazing. I fell in love with this story from the first sentence to the final, epic page. London is a force to be reckoned with." —Marie Lu, author of the Legend trilogy  "Whipping Boy + Blade Runner with a sprinkling of The Hunger Games (plus, a dash of A Tale of Two Cities) = a treat for teen SF fans." —Kirkus Reviews“A fast-paced dystopian novel which should appeal to readers of the Hunger Games.” —VOYA"Alex London is one of the most multi-dimensional writers out there. Proxy blew me away. It's deep, thrilling, thought-provoking, and at times simultaneously maddening and uplifting. I need to have more of Syd and Knox. Proxy is one stunning read!" —Andrew Smith, author of WINGER and GRASSHOPPER JUNGLE“Gripping.” —Examiner.com“Proxy moves blindingly fast through a world of danger gone viral. It's science-fiction on a joy ride full of deceit and imagination.” —Deseret News “A big twist and heroic ending will leave readers eager for more” —Shelf Awareness “Offering intriguing moral dilemmas amid breakneck action…The matter-of-fact presence of a gay lead [Syd] in an action driven story is welcome and overdue.” —Publishers Weekly “An action-packed thrill ride.” —SLJ

By Årolilja Grimsdottir This is the second book in a series, and we are all familiar with the posible disappointment a second book can be compared with the first one. I loved Proxy and was so happy when I found out the second book had already come out. These books are special in my opinion because they are for a young audience (I'd say age 14 and up, perfect for those who are tired of the "safe" Percy Jackson stories and want some more blood and daring/realistic language) and the lead protagonist is dark skinned and gay! There's almost always a character that is gay, but it's never the lead character, still these books aren't at all about being gay or anything, it's just that the lead person is gay and I think that's really cool. I enjoyed the first book a lot and was kinda nervous about the second book, scared of what would happen, would it be as good as the first one or would I be totally disappointed? Some new characters came into the book pretty early and that also made me nervous. But ... it didn't take long before I was in love once again! One of the main characters in Guardian is a seventeen year old guy named Liam who's got a metal hand! How cool is that? I already loved Syd, never liked Marie much, though it got better in this book, I worshipped Knox, and I quickly fell for Liam too (pluss his physical description looks exactly like my brothers not that you should care). Guardian is full-packed action from chapter 4 and out. There's blood and tears and fear and love and humour. This is one of those rare books you can say did not disappoint at all. I thought it was nearly as good as the first one and I enjoyed it to the end. Now I'm biting my fingernails waiting for the third one. Hurry up, Alex London! I need the third one! Dear reader, just pick up Guardian, okay? Good boy/girl *patting head* Oh, and BTW if you're looking for something similar to Proxy and Guardian, try Red Rising by Pirece Brown, or the Legend series by Marie Lu. Have a nice life and happy new year! God bless

Personally I Loved It By TheStoryGoes So you know how these days a lot of the time you read the first book in a series/trilogy/duology and it's completely awesome and it pulls you in and consumes you and you spend a year obsessively stalking the Internet for every little scrap of info as you patiently(ha) wait for the sequel to FINALLY come out and then a lot of the time it's kind of a disappointment? It's not that it's bad but it's just not quite as good? It's as if the author lost momentum some where? Well not with this book! It is at least as good as the first and, in my opinion, definitely not a disappointment. Now I don't want to give away any spoilers or anything for Proxy and honestly I don't want to sit here and write out a long detailed review of why this book is awesome and why you should read it and all the things so I'll just talk about some of my favorite things and then you can read the book, okay?A Few Of My Favorite Things - -Liam - He's no Knox but he is awesome. I wouldn't say that I liked him as much as I liked Knox but it was pretty damn close. He's just a really complex character and yeah I loved him. -Syd - Okay Syd had some down moments in this book but that didn't make me love him any less, maybe it even made me love him a little more. He was still himself, sure he was changed and sad and slightly depressed but in the end he didn't let that stop him. -The plot - I didn't really know how this book as going to go because honestly when I read Proxy I thought it was a stand alone and I was kinda apprehensive about this but it was awesome. It made total sense and it just added so much to the story. Basically I loved it, are you seeing a pattern here? I am. - Twisty - I feel like there were some very interesting twists in this book and I loves me a good twist. And now I think I am running out of things to say and my brain doesn't feel like cooperating and yeah.Your turn! Read the book! READ IT!

2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. A disappointing sequel By Monique @ Mo_Books First I would like to say that I adored reading Proxy, the first book in the series. It was the first LGBT book that I've ever read and I had never read anything quite like it before. A world where good standing citizens "patrons" has designated poor folk "proxies" to take their punishment when they broke the law. Interesting right? I did like the introduction of the new character, Liam. He seemed like a pretty decent guy and made an interesting addition to the story. He was entirely devoted to keeping Syd safe. But it never really went into depth and explained why he was so willing to protect Syd in the first place, besides the obvious crush he had on him. Something else that I did like about this story was how Syd was willing to stick up for the Guardians (who developed a sickness resulting from the Machine being shut down) when no one else was willing to help them. He saw the humanity still in them that no one was willing to take a second glance at. Something about this book that I did not like, was that the world building felt incomplete, as well as the characters. This story was more about a revolution that happens during a revolution and veered off track from what I thought was an interesting enough storyline. As hard as I tried, I could not feel that "magic" that I had felt before. I was extremely excited to read this sequel, unfortunately for me the Guardian did not live up to the expectations that I held after reading Proxy. I found that the world building as well as the character development fell short in this story, and the plot became questionable. There were still a few exciting moments in this book, but I have to say it's one that wasn't really for me. I don't know if I will be continuing on with the series are notI give this a 2 out of 5 stars.

This one was nice because we got it right after my kids took a plane trip, so it was fresh in their minds. They love looking at the pictures of the stuffed animals, and my three-year-old got excited about the pictures of the real animals in this second book, too. They are excited by the invitation to upload pictures of their own stuffed animals. The kids This one was longer than the first one.

My kids are excited to learn about all the ways we can travel across the country. They've been in the car and on a train, but never have they traveled on an airplane. Always curious, they both want to know what it is like."Ellie's First Plane Ride" by Marci Fair is the story of Ellie the Elephant and her friend Pudgy the Penguin as they go on a journey to visit Ellie's relatives. Never having been on a plane before, Ellie is incredibly nervous, but thanks to Pudgy's reassurance and assistance they safely arrive at the zoo. Once at the Zoo the two friends set out to find Ellie's relatives, but none of the other animals know where Ellie's family is. Will the two friends ever find the other other elephants before it's time to return home?"Ellie's First Plane Ride" will take your child on a plane ride from start to finish, explaining everything along the way. From checking flight departures, riding the escalator to getting on the plane your child will explore the airport and learn about the process of getting on an airplane.Ellie and Pudgy are adorable, well loved plush animals with big personalities. My kids immediately recognized Pudgy the Penguin. We have a similar plush animal at home that my kids insist my be related to Pudgy. My son has asked to read this story three nights in a row.The kids and I love that the illustrations are done in scrapbook style, using real photographs of their airport and zoo journey. This helps your child visualize what is happening each step of the way. The author highlights words throughout the story which not only adds visual appeal, it helps your young reader learn which words to emphasize as he/she reads along."Ellie's First Plane Ride" is an excellent way to show your child what will happen when you go on a trip by plane, helping to relieve any fears and anxiety they may have.**Disclosure: I received a complimentary copy of "Ellie's First Plane Ride" in exchange for my review. All opinions are 100% my own.

Guillermo Having read the first book, I decided to check out volume 2, "Ellie's First Plane Ride." I ended up liking it more than the first one, maybe because I'm a practical person and could easily see how very useful this book could be to read to prepare a child for their first plane ride. (The fact that it uses photographs instead of illustrations is an added plus in this case). My three-year-old, who HAS been on a plane a few times already, still got really excited pointing at all the things she already knew about. It was fun for her to see someone else experiencing the same things. After the plane ride, Ellie the Elephant and Pudgy the Penguin go to the zoo, which was a fun interlude I was not expecting - like two stories for the price of one. :) Again, the photographs were a plus in this case, as we met some out-of-the-ordinary animals that we'd never seen before. I had been wondering how the family reunion was going to be, taking place through bars, but the dialogue between the elephants was interesting enough to my three year old that it seemed to make it a non-issue for her.Though it made the story a bit longer than the normal children's book, I appreciated the symmetry and gentle closure afforded by the story of the plane ride back home.In both of these books I have appreciated the clear and interesting photographs. I generally prefer very detailed illustrations, but here they seemed appropriate since this seemed like it could be a teaching text. In that same vein I was pleased that once again the authors had highlighted key words from the text by making them larger and brightly colored. My three year old keyed in on them, pointing to a word and saying "wead DIS one, wead it again". I was impressed that she noticed and am hoping it's a step towards whole-word recognition.

Great coloring book By Chris My son loves this coloring book, he is now learning to use different shades to give depth and I feel this skill will transfer to other coloring books later on as he will be able to see the difference it makes. He was super excited to get surprised with it and has colored many of the pages and you can see a progression as he learns the tricks! Your kids coloring can become 3-dimensional after using this book!

Moon Runner, by Carolyn Marsden

From School Library Journal Grade 3-5–A quiet, lyrical story that sensitively explores issues of friendship and being true to oneself. When fourth-grader Mina moves to a new elementary school, she is relieved to be accepted into "the Fellow Friends" group of Ruth, Alana, and Sammy. Marsden subtly develops Mina as a somewhat timid person who needs to feel secure; her mother sometimes calls her a "stick in the mud," and Mina considers herself a "girlie girl," not athletic like Ruth. But during a tryout for the track team, she surprisingly finds herself flying around the track and almost beating Ruth. Frightened at jeopardizing their friendship, Mina purposely loses a race and then faces the consequences of her own disappointment as well as Ruth's reaction. The conflict reaches a satisfying climax when Mina gathers the courage to confront Ruth, though the ending–a relay race when their team wins–seems a mite pat. While there is some description of the sport, the action is predominantly internal, and the lucid prose is full of haunting metaphors. For example, as a school assignment Mina keeps a moon journal, and images of the moon are interwoven throughout the story. Readers who enjoy the graceful style of Patricia MacLachlan's family stories will relate to this accessible tale.– Caroline Ward, The Ferguson Library, Stamford, CT Copyright © Reed Business Information, a division of Reed Elsevier Inc. All rights reserved.

From Booklist Gr. 3-5. Mina loves being one of the Fellow Friends, a fourth-grade foursome who greet each other with the Fellow Friends handshake and take turns carrying home the ever-enlarging Friendship Ball, made from bits of yarn. Within the group, each child has an identity: Ruth the athlete, Sammy the bug collector, Alana the reader, and Mina the new friend. When Mina discovers that she not only likes to run track but she is fast, her unintended incursion on Ruth's territory causes a rift between the Friends. Marsden, author of The Gold-Threaded Dress (2002), offers a close look at the give-and-take of children's friendships, a sensitive portrayal of two young athletes who run for different reasons, and an ethical dilemma that children may want to discuss: Should Mina intentionally lose the race to Ruth if she thinks it will save their friendship? With its combination of cozy and prickly elements, this chapter book makes for accessible and rewarding reading. Carolyn PhelanCopyright © American Library Association. All rights reserved

7 of 8 people found the following review helpful. Carolyn Marsden Is a Rising Star in Children's Literature By A. P. Sayre I read Moon Runner and loved it. I'm going to buy copies of all of Marsden's books for my nieces. With Moon Runner, Gold-Threaded Dress, and The Quail Club, Marsden is developing her own beautiful genre: moving, multicultural chapter books that speak to the hearts of elementary school children. From the very first page of each book she presents nuanced portraits of kids with important decisions to make. What I love about Marsden's characters is that they seem so real, not cardboard or over dramatized. Each moment, each decision the children make is honored and described. In between the plot points is rich detail, and crystalline moments where we can feel and experience some of the pleasures of being alive. She's creating something rare and valuable: nourishing, contemporary literature that kids will find accessible and fun to read.

Moon Runner By luckythedog I think this story is a true and inspiring book that shows young readers that if you follow your passions and what you believe in, life is good. It teachesnot to laugh at people but to laugh with people, even displaying what comes around goes around. I give this book five stars and a double thumbs up. I wouldrecommend this book for all readers. Over all, this book has made an impact in my life and I love it because it focuses on the positive side of life.

The Everything Seed, by Carole Martignacco

From School Library Journal Gr1-3 This attempt to present an original creation myth starts with a single seed waiting to take root and grow into the universe. But the story does not end here. That first seed, which also contained …all the stars and planets, all the rocks and oceans, plants, and animals, and people, is still growing and changing with each new day as every star, creature, and being continues to unfold in ways not yet known. The illustrations are suitably cosmic. Black nothingness contrasts with spiraling color and multicultural creation symbols such as a snake, an apple, and a turtle. The batik process used to create the artwork is painstakingly described in an illustrator's note. While there is some lovely text, this book reads as if the emphasis were on making a point rather than telling a story. The text is very earnest, but, in the end, dull. Superior creation myths, both collected and original, include Ann Pilling's Creation (1997), Phyllis Root's Big Momma Makes the World (2003, both Candlewick), and Julius Lester's What a Truly Cool World (Scholastic, 1999). Kara Schaff Dean, Needham Public Library, MA Copyright © Reed Business Information, a division of Reed Elsevier Inc. All rights reserved.

From Booklist PreS-Gr. 2. The facts of science and the wonder of myth combine in this unusual creation story that finds the universe in an acorn. In spare text that is both lyrical and friendly, the story moves from a plant's origins in a seed (something "so small, so still, so quiet") to how the universe began, also from a seed, "cradled and nourished in the rich soil of space." There's no definitive supreme being here: "No one knows where that first seed came from." But when the Everything Seed unfurls and grows into our stars and planets, the text makes poetry of science. The universe continues to expand; new seeds grow and new people are born, "waiting like the Everything Seed to shine in ways that are yet to be known." Troyer's explosive batik illustrations are poorly reproduced, blurry and off-register, but the images still capture the subject's mystery and timelessness in wild swirls of color against deep black, as the words offer a unique, cosmic view that celebrates the divine without rejecting science. Gillian EngbergCopyright © American Library Association. All rights reserved

From the Publisher • A gentle look at the Big Bang for young children. • Wonderful baby shower gift. • Incredible batik artwork.

After 12-year-old Anya is cut from her middle school soccer team, she decides to pursue her true passion, which is theater. With the help of her sister and new friend Austin, Anya puts together a kids’ summer theater troupe (The Random Farms Kids’ Theater), recruiting area kids as actors and crew members. Acting as director, Anya has to navigate the ups and downs of a showbiz life, including preparing scripts, finding a venue, and handling ticket sales, not to mention calming the actors’ insecurities and settling conflicts. It’s a lot of responsibility for a 12-year-old. Will their first show ever get off the ground? This series is closely based on the real-life experience of Anya Wallach, who began a summer theater “camp” in her parents’ basement when she was just sixteen years old. Today, Random Farms has launched the careers of many of today’s youngest stars on Broadway.

Curtain Up (Stagestruck), by Lisa Fiedler, Anya Wallach

From School Library Journal Gr 4–7—Twelve-year-old Anya is a self-professed theater geek, but there isn't much opportunity for middle schoolers in suburban Chappaqua to flex their drama muscles. So Anya decides to start her own theater in the neighborhood clubhouse. With the help of her little sister Susan and Austin, a cute and talented aspiring composer/playwright, the Random Farms Kids' Theater (RFKT) is born. Anya learns about theater, as well as friendship, as she leads her all-kids cast and crew through auditions, rehearsals, and, finally, to opening night. This fun romp, based on a concept by Wallach, founder of the actual RFKT in 1995, is a modern day "let's-put-on-a-show" story updated to include social media and texting. Although the plot is formulaic and the characters only broadly developed, the story is full of heart, making it appealing to High School Musical fans. The text is riddled with musical theater references, and aspiring actors will enjoy the theater tips and lingo, even if they sound unbelievably mature when delivered by middle schoolers. First in a series, this book ends with Anya and Austin planning their next show. VERDICT This realistic title is recommended for general purchase by public and school libraries, especially those with a thriving theater geek scene.—Amy Seto Forrester, Denver Public Library

Review When 12-year-old Anya totally bombs her tryout for the soccer team, she overhears Austin asking a teacher why the school doesn t have a drama club. No funding! So, Anya and Austin decide to start a summer musical theater program themselves in an old barn. Let s put on a show! Book 1 in the new Curtain Up will give the young theater lover a fun read. Full of musical and Broadway references, these kids are sophisticated actors and directors, wise beyond their years, and real kids. Based on the real life story of the Random Farm Kids theater company in New York. --EL - ADVISABLE Lisa Librarian

By Lori Sue Kostencki When They come back missing is a brave telling of the stories not told on the 6 o'clock news. The author has courageously bared her soul to shine a light on the drastic changes our military families face after a return from war. Our military families need our love and support to continue long after the parades and confetti. I hope this book encourages people to reach out to military friends, to pray for them and to help them seek real help.

2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. Read it By JCC This book will open your eyes to the long-term sacrifices made by our military members and their families. The author does an excellent job of telling true, heartbreaking stories of proud, loving families who became casualties of war. When wounds are not visible, they often don't get the treatment needed to heal. Our veterans and their families deserve our prayers and our true support always.

By Robin Bell This book shows what so many families go through when their spouse comes back from a deployment as someone they no longer recognize. As I read their stories I could truly feel their emotional pain as they fight to save their families and get help for their spouse. It also helped me to understand and recognize some of what my husband struggled with when he came back from deployments. Very well written and I highly recommend it.

From the Publisher Focusing on Anne's youngest child, Rilla, this is the moving story of a young girl's headlong rush into maturity during World War I.

From the Inside Flap Anne's children were almost grown up, except for pretty, high-spirited Rilla. No one could resist her bright hazel eyes and dazzling smile. Rilla, almost fifteen, can't think any further ahead than going to her very first dance at the Four Winds lighthouse and getting her first kiss from handsome Kenneth Ford. About the Author Lucy Maud Montgomery (November 30, 1874–April 24, 1942) publicly known as L.M. Montgomery, was a Canadian author best known for a series of novels beginning with Anne of Green Gables, published in 1908. Anne of Green Gables was an immediate success. The central character, Anne, an orphaned girl, made Montgomery famous in her lifetime and gave her an international following. The first novel was followed by a series of sequels. Montgomery went on to publish twenty novels as well as 500 short stories and poems. Because many of the novels were set on Prince Edward Island, Canada and the Canadian province became literary landmarks. She was awarded Officer of the Order of the British Empire in 1935.

51 of 51 people found the following review helpful. Anne's daughter Rilla endures the sorrows of World War I By Lawrance Bernabo It is certainly hard to begin reading "Rilla of Ingleside," knowing it is the eighth and final book in the Anne of Green Gables series. When it was written in 1921 it was actually the sixth book that L.M. Montgomery wrote in the series. Years later she would add "Anne of Windy Poplars" as the "fourth" book and "Anne of Ingleside" as the sixth, pushing this one to eighth place. The title character is Rilla, born Bertha Marilla Blythe (named for Anne's mother and the old maid who adopted the red-headed orphan), the youngest of Anne and Gilbert's daughters. The novel is set about a decade after Montgomery's previous Anne novel, "Rainbow Valley," which was more about the four children of the new widowed minister John Meredith, who become good friends with the Blythe kids. Most of the novel is set during World War I, which is one of the most interesting aspects of the story for me.As the novel begins Rilla is almost fifteen years old, with bright hazel eyes and a dazzling smile. Rilla is still looking forward to her first romance and for her the most important thing in the world is going to her very first dance at the Four Winds lighthouse and getting her first kiss from Kenneth Ford. But the story takes a dramatic turn as the shadow of the World War reaches all the way to Ingleside. Her brothers, her friends and her beau go over the ocean to fight in France and Rilla brings home an orphaned newborn in a soup tureen and organizes the Junior Red Cross. Everything takes on new meaning when there is a war going on, waiting to hear from the battlefields of France and Susan wondering when America is finally going to get involved so the Allies can win and the boys can finally come home. American involvement in that war was pretty brief, so what I found fascinating is to see that war from the Canadian perspective, as it drags on year after year.Young men get killed in a war and that tragedy touches the Blythe family. Then more bad news comes from France, bringing home the nightmare even more. Yet Montgomery creates the possibility of hope in the figure of a faithful dog, waiting at the train station for his master to return. Rilla is not the only one waiting for someone to come home: Una Meredith and Mary Vance are waiting as well. "Rilla of Ingleside" was published in 1921, which means that L. M. Montgomery provided a contemporaneous account of the war as seen from the home front. We learn of what is happening second-hand as we see the impact of the war on the mothers, sisters and girls who were left behind to worry about Paris being shelled by the Germans along with the fate of the Empire and their loved ones. This gives "Rilla" an emotional depth unmatched in Montgomery's work, and also sets up the tragic aspects of the story. While this might be a bit sobering for younger readers, by the time they get to this final novel I believe they will be well prepared. There are certainly comic aspects to the story, but this an emotional tale that provides a satisfying conclusion to the story of Anne Shirley and her family.

THe most heart warming book I have ever read By A Customer Rilla Of Ingleside, the 8th book of the Anne of Green Gables series is my ultimate favorite of them all. Though every book was enchanting, each carrying beautiful stories, I feel that Rilla of Ingleside overflows in greatness. I have read this book time and time again and each time I laugh and cry for the beautiful characters and their lives that are so deeply touched by the Great War. Rilla is a girl like many who due to greater circumstances must grow up in a world of fear and fighting, and so she becomes a woman obtaining great character, love and wisdom. The story is beautiful and portrays what many must have gone through during those trying times. Anne in this novel, is not the headstrong girl that she was before, but is a woman and a mother who shows greater courage than in any other book. With all her sons at the front she is still the strongest and most loved kindred spirit. The book shows not what life was like at the front but what life was for those who had to stay behind. This book shows the greater courage that it took to stay at home, to fear the daily news, to hope in tomarrow and to "keep faith."

It's Not About Marilla By A Customer To the one who wrote the review saying that she wanted to know what happened to Marilla and that she must have died a lonely death, you forget: Marilla had the twins (their names escape me, Davy was the boy) for company, and it isn't as if Anne abandoned her. She did visit Marilla quite a few times in the other books. It just so happened that Marilla died years before the time of this book. This is an amazing book. The way Montgomery writes just thrills me and takes me into the book. Every time I read it I lose myself for hours at a time. When *(spoiler)*, well I won't say who, but someone very special dies, I feel almost as if I have lost someone quite close to me.It's such a sad, happy, sweet, sorrowful story, a lot about change and growing up. Which aren't my favorite subjects, but I absolutely love this book. And for you guys who are sitting there saying, "YUCK," I'm sorry, but this book isn't for you. :-) It isn't really even a sappy book at all. It's just... I don't know. Incredibly written. And a great story. By the way, I am not a kid, I am eighteen, but I didn't want to give out my e-mail address. :-)

Reviews: 'James' book simply oozes with enthusiasm, a wonderfully positive mindset and a 'can do' attitude to raising happy, confident & resilient children.
