A Great Resource from Someone Who Understands Men By Ethan I have to be honest - I got these books as a man to try to better understand how women are thinking about these things. Especially in the age of social media and texting, and as an older man, I am clueless.I found both books to be extremely useful guides for someone like me. About the Author Dr. Donna Gardner earned her Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Binghamton University, and Master’s and Doctoral degrees in School Psychology from the Pennsylvania State University. She is in possession of a Georgia certification in School Psychology and a Georgia license in Psychology. She has over 15 years experience working in Pre-K -to-12 schools, and other clinical settings such as foster care and community based mental health agencies. Her areas of expertise include assessment, intervention, consultation, and counseling. In addition, Dr. Gardner has over 8 years experience teaching undergraduate and graduate level courses for institutions such as Long Island University, Argosy University, University of Phoenix, Saint Leo University, and Iona College. She has published several articles in peer reviewed psychological journals and has presented at various national conferences. Dr. Gardner is a native New Yorker, now residing in Atlanta Georgia. Currently, Dr. Donna is in the process of publishing two additional books: the first a memoir/self-help book on coping with mood disorders, the second a children’s book on multicultural resiliency. In seven easy to read chapters, children and parents are encouraged to explore together what it means to be wise. Topics such as listening, praying, learning, being positive, being good, working, and persevering are explored; along with Bible verses about wisdom, suggestions for practical activities, and advice for boys and girls. The inclusive, vibrant illustrations compliment the text. This little book makes an excellent resource for families.

Great book for kids & parents By Majanka In Pearls and Tools of Wisdom for Parents & Children, child psychologist Donna Gardner shows parents how to teach their children certain biblical values, accompanied by cute illustrations. For example, the first chapter focuses on listening, and it explains what the bible and God say about listening. Next, Dr. Donna gives a lesson about listening to the parents and then to the children. She also proposes an activity, has some advices specifically for girls and boys, and then includes a biblical verse about wisdom. The chapter ends with a page for notes that parents and kids can fill in.The second chapter focuses on praying, and uses the same formula. The book goes on like that, providing wisdom and lessons for parents and kid while showcasing the lessons with cute illustrations using lots of colors.It’s an interesting book, one that would be great for parents and kids to read together. I received a free copy in exchange for an honest review.

Inside the head of a normal person who is gripped by manic depression By Stephen McCutchan Starman is an OK story, but the reason why someone should read this book is Lancaster's ability to describe the personality of its protagonist, Hugh Packard, disintegrating before your eyes due to manic depression. In this story, we are invited to witness both what is happening inside Hugh's head and how it impacts those who are close to him.Hugh is a successful securities trader with the world at his fingertips.Several times in this short novel, you will find yourself disliking Hugh and judging his insensitive behavior. Yet as the story progresses, you begin to see how a person who seems to have it all can be gripped by a personality disorder beyond his control.Lancaster has done us a favor by inviting us to see this happening from the inside. It might help those of us who stand on the outside of such events to be less judgemental. It looks different from the inside.

And he happens to be turning into a famous rockstar. His music is amazing and he's finally getting others to see it, and he brings Sterling along for the ride. Before she knows it, Sterling is going to red carpet premieres and is sitting front row at his sold-out concerts. But is Sterling living the life she wants, or the one Ethan wants for them? Is it enough to be happy for your love's dreams, or do you need to work on your own?I am a great Susane Colasanti fan, and this might be my second favorite novel of hers. It's a very cute story and the relationship between Sterling and Ethan is complex and also enduring. While I wish the other characters introduced in the middle of the story could be developed more before the end of the novel, the overall story was entertaining and left a good message. I would recommend this to anyone wanting a quick romance who will end with a smile and a passion to fulfill ones dreams.*4 STARS*[...]

Almost Unreadable By AT This is a fairly interesting premise--a guy and a girl are dating and he rockets to super-stardom while she remains just a regular girl who is now the girlfriend of the guy everyone loves. So this could have been a decent book, but in reality, it is not.This is just embarrassingly poorly written. The entire book is short, declarative sentences, which makes it hard to read and even harder to like. The characters are cookie-cutter, the plot is predictable. The main character, Sterling, has no personality at all despite the author trying to tell us that she has things she's interested in--cooking and correcting typos. She keeps saying she wants to be a publisher when she grows up, rather than saying she wants to be an editor or work in publishing, which drives me batty.I read a lot of YA books, and this one doesn't even qualify as a guilty pleasure. The relationship between Ethan and Sterling is annoying when things are good, and boring when things are bad. There are various soon-to-be dated pop culture references that are just distracting. At one point Ethan quotes something from Flight of the Conchords, but it doesn't make sense without context, so the author has to explain the joke, which really just never works.Here is a selection of writing that stood out as particularly offensive to me:"His arms are even more ripped than they were last week. He's getting crazy strong now that he's working out six days a week. He's doing three days of cardio or hip-hop dance, two days of weight training, and one day of running or other outdoor activities. And he has pickup basketball games with friends in his limited free time."Every damn sentence in this book starts with either Ethan or He. Every sentence is short. Every sentence is Subject Verb Object, which is a clear and concise way of communicating, but it doesn't really make for an engrossing read. Now I'm afraid I've internalized it and am going to start writing like a 7th grader.This is the first Susane Colasanti book I've ever read, and it will be the last.

5 of 7 people found the following review helpful. Embarrassingly Bad By Maggie I have these friends, let’s call them Grace and Amy*. Grace is a children’s book editor and Amy is a high school ESL teacher. Amy is forever mentioning to Grace how her students need high concept, low reading level books since it’s difficult to get high school students to read when all the books for their reading level are about seven-year-olds or whatever. Well Amy, do I have the book for you.There are a lot of things about Now and Forever that I absolutely hated, but by far the worst thing was the writing. I’ve read one other Susane Colasanti book, All I Need, which I also had issues with, but I don’t remember thinking it was written by a 12-year-old. Allow me to demonstrate what reading this book was like: “Now and Forever is about a girl. The girl’s name is Sterling. Sterling is a senior in high school. Sterling has a boyfriend named Ethan. Ethan dreams of being a rock star. Ethan starts to get famous.” It’s not just me, right? That’s annoying? As I was reading I just kept thinking that if Susane Colasanti had any finesse or maturity to her writing five or six or seven of the sentences I was reading could easily have been combined into one or two.The writing was hands down the must frustrating part of this reading experience, it was like I was reading the world’s longest picture book that was missing the pictures, but that certainly wasn’t the only problem. Sterling is a bit of an enigma. During the book she’s in her senior year of high school and she has two major interests: correcting bad grammar and cooking. I’ll be the first person to admit that bad grammar drives me batty, but Sterling takes it to a whole other level. She’s constantly telling people in stores why their signs are wrong and she carries around a Sharpie to do her own gorilla corrections to signs. I suppose this could possibly be interpreted as charming, but really I just wanted to tell Sterling to calm down and stop being an a-hole (she’s obviously never heard the expression it’s better to be happy than right). Sterling’s other interest is cooking. Her grandmother taught her to cook and she is apparently a renowned baker in her town. So much so that she apparently bakes enough to be able to sell hundreds of baked goods at a town celebration.The other odd thing about Sterling is that when she grows up she wants to be a book publisher. Not work for a book publisher, but be a book publisher. As someone who worked in publishing I’m familiar with this job, but I was surprised that Sterling was. I was also surprised, given her grammar Nazism, that she didn’t want to be a copyeditor or an editor. Especially since becoming a book publisher requires many years spent in lesser positions. Not to mention that prior to the last year, when Sterling found her calling in grammar, she hated school and didn’t do so well. Yet that hasn’t stopped her from applying to schools like Princeton and Yale.Unfortunately Sterling’s romance with Ethan did not help things. At first the relationship was a little cute, but it soon became sickeningly cute. I tried to tell myself that I’m single and bitter and old and these are two kids in love, but it was just too much. Ethan’s lines were cheesy and fake and I felt bad for Sterling that she believed stuff he was saying (although to Ethan and Colasanti’s credit for much of the book I think Ethan believed them too). Sterling also thought this truly awful thing when Ethan would say something vomit-inducing to her. Depending on where she was she would think “Melting. In. The lobby” or “Melting. In. The Car” or “Melting. In. Shake Shack” (they really liked Shake Shack). Maybe Ethan wasn’t a bad guy, but his ambition and focus were a turnoff for me and I never took any interest in Sterling and Ethan’s romance, which meant another nail in the coffin for this one.I swear that in an earlier description there was mention of another interest for Sterling, a guy involved in Ethan’s tour. There’s no mention of that in the description on Goodreads now, but I still kept waiting for it to happen. And when it did happen it didn’t make the book any better. Even though I didn’t buy into Sterling and Ethan’s relationship I still wasn’t ok with Sterling essentially emotionally cheating on Ethan. I found Sterling’s relationship with the roadie pretty unbelievable, I just didn’t see either of them taking an interest in each other and when it comes down to it they barely knew each other, but quickly became pretty obsessed with each other. And the ending, oh god, thank goodness I am not into spoiling books because you do not want to get me started on that ending.Maybe at this point you’re wondering if there is anything good about this book? Yes, two things. First, the basic idea for the story, a girl’s boyfriend is suddenly famous and she needs to navigate a new world. I still like the premise even though Susane Colasanti did her best to ruin it for me. Second, each chapter opens with the current number of followers Ethan has (not clear if it was Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc.), but that was a really great way to quantify and show Ethan’s rapid rise to fame.Bottom Line: Susane Colasanti we are done. I read one of your books and didn’t love it, but I didn’t hate it, but after this one I am done with you now and forever. I know you’re popular so I thought I’d give you another shot, but wow, what a mistake that was. The writing here was so atrocious that I am embarrassed for everyone involved with this book. Not to mention that the characters and story just fell completely flat. Do. Not. Read. This.* These are their real names

Princess Nancy gets to go the the castle tonight where the big party is being held. She loves to dance but the time is moving so slowly on the clock. She's so nervous as she struts around to a rhythm which takes control of her happy feet. She tries to distract herself to help the time pass quicker. So what does she do? Perhaps dance a waltz? Oops! She is graceful, but she does bump into a suit of armor, just how many fall down? Can you guess who cleans up her mess? Oh, Nancy is growing into a fine, responsible young girl who makes good decisions. Yes, Nancy is a true Princess and still has fun. Please read to your girls ... they'll want to dress up just like Nancy! Well written and the illustration are perfect!

Chambers In the first Princess Nancie story (Children's Book: Princess Nancie (funny bedtime story collection)), the young princess learned a valuable lesson about the role of laws and rules in a society. In this story, she's anxiously waiting for a ball to begin, but the clock was moving so slowly and Nancie was getting so antsy wanting the dancing to begin that she accidentally knocked over a suit of armor in the great hall. That started a domino effect where all 999 suits of armor fell. Acknowledging that the disaster she had made was her fault, Princess Nancie accepted responsibility to clean up the mess. She was almost late for the dance, but she had learned a lesson about accountability.It's a nice bedtime story for little girls, who will learn that even princesses have to face up to their responsibilities.

Always finding something unique on which to base her stories, she makes each tale a learning experience for children as well as offering some pointers for parenting!Leela takes us to the Kingdom of Arwyn where we again meet Princess Nancie, though for some reason Leela has changed the spelling to read ‘Nancy’ now. The story involves the incipient ball in the castle that is to occur that evening and form the time of awakening to the time of the Ball Nancy is anxious, eager, and makes a few messes she must rectify before the guests arrive for the ball. In her own delightful rhyme Leela describes the scattered eager day activities Nancy undergoes and along the way some valuable lessons about patience, being careful, cleaning up messes, and the joy of anticipation are made a valuable part of this little story for children. And as always, Leela leaves her reader satisfied with the combination of light story and lessons. Grady Harp, September 15

Killer's review of all Hallows eve By Kindle Customer in our world of often blurred perceptions /unresolved conclusions it has been a joy to read Mrs Bellingers witch chronicle series. Book 4 is a MOST satisfying resolution to the story. Mrs B 's storyteller wordcraft delivered what should NOT be limited to a "young adult audience." She writes complete word pictures toevoke rich responses regardless of a reader age. She conveys powerful examples in the characters' intensity of passions= love, hate, fears, greed, etc. She depicts reality of violence in their battles of good vs evil. She makes the reader feel the struggles in the exercise of honor & ethics or their lack of it. Finally in this tale she allows the good override and conquer...a twinkle of hope and satisfaction for readers who have enough examples in daily life where it seems "all things bad" seem often th rule.

This book was great By Sue I am also sad this series has ended but the good part is I own all the books in this series so I can go back any time a meet them again.I liked how everything tied together at the end. There were sad moments and moments that make you laugh and that is what makes it a good book and a good series.I know this is a series I will return to again and enjoy as much as I did the first time I read it. The next time I read it I will not have to wait for the next book to come out.

I say surprisingly because I am old and this is written for young people. It's a classic "princess gets her kingdom taken from her" story but the story moved well and held my attention throughout the book. Parents, you do not have to worry about any inappropriateness in this book. This writer stays in the action of the story and does it well. I'm looking forward to the next one.

It doesn't have the usual climax and ending. It is meant to be read as a continuing story into the next book so there is no climax at all and kinda just...ends. Now this was new to me and I kind of like it. A lot was left unsaid so I definitely want to read the next one.My biggest problem is that we just follow too many people. Now I love a story with a lot of side-plots and characters but I don't always need to know what they are doing. It kind of takes out the mystery of all the subplots twining together beneath the story. This story swaps POV's like nobodies business. We follow Nerissa, Charis, Shae, Shae's daughter, Einar, Einar's wife, Rial, Raysel, Tao, the villains, like everyone we meet. On top of that it will change POV mid-chapter from paragraph to paragraph. One paragraph Nerissa, the next Charis then back to Nerissa. It makes the reading rather muddled. It takes out all the surprises completely. We always know what everyone is thinking or doing. I would have liked it to be more subtle I guess.The romance is...kind of there? Rian comes across as a love interest for all of a chapter and a half before we don't see him again until the end of the book at all even though he is technically there. Which is convenient considering she has memory loss of meeting him, which is also convenient considering she is royalty and he is an Ohanzee. There is the possibility of Raysel which I hope not, because then we would have the horror of a love triangle. Please don't do this to us Rachel.Then we dive into the cliches. While even though in this world royalty can marry whoever they want, OF COURSE it's FORBIDDEN for Ohanzee warriors to be romantically involved with royalty. Just like OF COURSE women can't be an Ohanzee warriors because it's "tradition" not "sexism". It's then "explained" that women don't WANT to be warriors and they are the ones that chose to not allow women to be warriors anymore. Of course by "explained", I mean this mysterious "reason" is conveniently mentioned but not given. Probably because there isn't a good one. It's total bs I'm sorry. If you don't want women to be allowed to be warriors for the plot (I understand why she did it) but don't give me that nonsense reasoning. If these cliches aren't enough let's throw in a prophecy with "the chosen one" for good measure.I liked a lot of the elements like the crystals and the prophetic dreams. I can tell we'll have more of Shae and the prophecies. While I'm not all that interested in the overarching prophecy of the story, (I fail to see why it is necessary other than to make Nerissa "special") but I am interested in her role as having foretelling dreams and how those could be used in the future.There is so much to do and I'm quite interested in the plot. I like Nerissa as she is strong and not overly annoying. She didn't grow all that much in this first book but we have a lot to grow and she isn't that terrible and already a pretty strong character. From here I'd like to see more romance and some action.

The characters are pretty good By Angel Hatfield Even though Nerrisa was Heiress Of Chiyo she has to hide her books from her parents. Charis is the university’s president's daughter and sneaks book into Nerrisa she is also Nerrisa’s oldest friend. There was to be a celebration and Nerrisa had two costumes made and because she did change and a secret guardian Nerrisa survived an attack that killed all the royal family but her. But it must not get out Nerissa survived.II had some problems with finishing this story but the twists and turns helped. But i felt it was confusing at some places, dragged at some places. A few too many characters. It is also a cliffhanger and I hate them. The characters are pretty good . I liked Nerrisa a lot and all the twists and turns she went through. But to me the book was just ok. Not real good and not bad.I received an ARC of this story for an honest review.

I have spent most of my life going above and beyond to help others, and treating myself poorly. This book has revolutionized how I view my worth to others. I only have so much time, and most of it is not guaranteed. As a 24 year old, I feel as if I am way behind in life and that I have not reached my potential, despite comparing my accolades the majority of my peers. I want more, I deserve more, and by being conscious of my time I can focus on what needs to be done to get what I want, as well as help others along the way when the time is right. The book was a very quick reflection of my life, and much needed reality check that even though you may not have a lot of time left, there is always more life to live.

I going to make better choices. Steve Jobs was 56 when he passed but what an impact he had on Earth. What am I going to do?I can understand the portions of the book relating to the death of his parents. It really makes you think hard about your life.This is a good book for college students and young professionals.

About the Author C.S. Woolley (Caroline Sarah Woolley) was born in Macclesfield, Cheshire and raised in the nearby town of Wilmslow. From an early age she discovered she had a flair and passion for writing. This was fuelled by winning local poetry and short story competitions during her years at Mottram St. Andrews Primary School. During high school, she continued to write and found her time split between acting, writing and her studies. At 14 she began writing novels. University did nothing to change her love of writing. C.S. spent a year reading Law at Manchester Metropolitan University before changing her mind and moving to read English at Hull University. After graduating she moved to Nottingham where she lives now and heads up the team of volunteers that run the Hope House Youth Café. In 2010, C.S published her first novel, Nicolette Mace – The Raven Siren: The Kevin Metis Saga. Since 2010 she has published books in two series – The Chronicles of Celadmore and Nicolette Mace: The Raven Siren. More recently C.S has taken part in charity projects that include producing content for charity books such as Standing by the Watchtower: Volume 1. C.S has also acted in several plays and films including Weekend (2011). Effortless By D M Singh Crime is not my thing, I feel as if the literary world, TV and the film industry is over-run with the same old, regurgitated stories. So I generally do not read crime novels, as I am more often than not, let down.This however is an absolute triumph! The main character Raven is sassy and smart-mouthed and I loved her. The author’s creation of this crime-noir persona and those around her is astounding. The story is engaging and had me gripped from start to finish. There are books that are so easy to read it’s like breathing the story in, this is one of those books! Before I knew it I was at the end and absolutely gutted that I was, thankfully it’s a series. Hurrah!I was also excited to discover that the author writes epic fantasy novels, which is my usual genre to read and so I think my bank balance will be taking a hit over the next few months but I’ll be a happy little, bookworm.I have heard rumblings that this might be made into an Amazon TV show, I really hope that’s true!On to book 2.

The atypical female private detective, the story's narrator, and the comical interaction between her and her two police contacts held my interest and made this short story enjoyable.

This is a new author to me and I really like C.S Wooley’s style. I liked the humour and the asides that she used throughout. The narrative flowed easily and the storyline was good. I wasn’t left with the feeling that it was unfinished although It paved the way for the next story at the same time. The protagonist was likeable.Will be reading more by this author.

3 of 3 people found the following review helpful. Jenna's Journey By R3 "Jenna's Journey" has an intricate plot that is nicely woven together. The problem is the first twenty percent of this novel was difficult to get through. There was too much talk about the relationship between Jen and her husband. I got the picture after a brief discussion. Some was need to develop their characters, but there were paragraphs and paragraphs of it. This took away from the mystery and intrigue that had been introduced.Despite that and some rough transitions, a bit of head hopping, and some minor inconsistencies, the plot was well conceived and the characters were well developed. Two things I especially liked in the story were the inclusion of Greek culture and the two different endings that showed the paths Jen had the option of taking. This was quite clever. I was kept wondering if one path would have lead to disaster. But, you'll have to read for yourself to find out.

Wilkinson Jenna's Journey (A Greek Island Mystery) by Julie RyanJenna decides to take a trip to Greece to get away from her husband Greg. Her marriage is not going so well, and she needs time to think things through. While there she finds(herself) twisted into an antiques smuggling ring, falls for a native named Nikos, and has major life altering decisions to make.I liked Jenna, as a young woman the problem she faces are real. I loved the descriptions of Greece and some of the culture. There were a few minor characters that had a role in the story. At a few points I was a bit confused, but overall the plot was very interesting and good. I recommend to those who love drama/romance/mystery.

2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. Jenna's Journey By Lynne Brown From the prologue of "Jenna's Journey" the author, Julie Ryan, pulls the reader into the story. The romantic mystery takes place in London and Greece and Ms. Ryan's descriptive language paints the scene so thoroughly one could imagine being in either venue along with the characters.Ms. Ryan does an excellent job in developing the characters, who were both believable and relatable. Written in third person narrative, each chapter alternatively focuses on the perspective of one of the main characters. Ms. Ryan very successfully employs this method to provide the reader with insight into each character's motivation and develop a connection between the readers and the characters.A romantic mystery, "Jenna's Journey" was an enjoyable read that was believable until the end when the author provides multiple endings to the story - three to be exact. After investing in the characters, the book's multiple choice ending was disappointing. I am not sure what the author was trying to achieve, but it appears to me that she fell short of achieving it. Two of the endings are not feasible with the beginning of the book - they just don't work if we believe the opening scene. I was left feeling cheated in as much as the author appears to be unable to decide how to end the story. The fact that two of the endings didn't align with the beginning, left me wanting to rewrite the story's ending.That being said, ultimately the book was an enjoyable read and I would recommend reading it. Knowing that you will be left having to decide what happened to the characters should prevent any disappointment in the lack of a concrete ending. Perhaps like me, you will come up with an alternative scenario.Note: I received a copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.
