Young children will definitely like this story, and I hope this book ends up in children's bookstores and many schools. I really liked this book because Dr. Baker wrote it to be culturally sensitive to African-American nurses, which is also why it is a great book for young children because teaching them to be culturally sensitive at a young age is very important.

About the Author As seen on CBS Evening News with Katie Couric, Dr. Scharmaine Lawson-Baker is a nationally recognized and award-winning nurse practitioner in New Orleans, Louisiana. She is a fellow of the American Association of Nurse Practitioners (AANP), and winner of the 2013 Healthcare Hero award (New Orleans City Business magazine) and 2008 Entrepreneur of the Year award (ADVANCE for Nurse Practitioner magazine). Dr. Baker, NP has received numerous honors and awards for her contributions to healthcare in New Orleans since she became a family nurse practitioner in 2000. Dr. Lawson-Baker was inspired to make house calls while caring for her grandmother, who was ill and needed an in-home doctor. She serves a large geriatric population in the comfort of their private homes, group homes, or assisted living facilities. After Hurricane Katrina, Dr. Baker was instrumental in caring for the sick and disabled in New Orleans, where hospitals had closed and doctors had evacuated but never returned. Her patient load went from 100 to 500 in only three months. Her passion and unwavering dedication to caring for homebound patients in her home town which is what prompted the interview with Katie Couric. Nola the Nurse was born from the desire of Dr. Scharmaine L. Baker who had been searching for children’s books that were both culturally sensitive and featured African-American nurses. This book is inspiring youth to be interested in other cultures and customs while promoting our profession (the most trusted profession 15 years running) This book is amazing and very well written! My daughter loves being able to identify with Nola and she has a unique opportunity to see another "Nurse Mommy" in action. This book has blessed our family and with definitely be a book I gift to many friends!

I love the way you highlight the nurse practitioner role in a children's book, I have not seen a children's book that goes into advance practice nursing roles. This is going to go a long way in advancing the profession for the next generation. I see it is volume 1, can't wait to see where Nola goes next.

The first few chapters present a tricky little exercise in metafiction in which the story about a secret is revealed as being itself too secret to tell, a ploy sure to tickle more puzzlesome readers. But then the intrusive narrator, who is equal parts snarky and delightful, strikes a deal and deigns to tell the story with fake names in Your Hometown, as long as you agree to "forget everything you read as soon as you read it." Then follows a not terribly shocking story wherein two intrepid kids uncover a mysterious society bent on immortality, which gets them in and out of all manner of trouble. By Amazon Customer This book was definitely meant for the type of kid/adult who enjoys the Series of Unfortunate Events. The author intrusions were very similar... and equally brilliant. It was an incredibly fun book to read.Now, for my advice as a parent...***POSSIBLE SPOILERS***Some reviews have noted that the book is scary. While the intensity was definitely heightened at the end, I think they're all referring to the scene very reminiscent of Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom--the human sacrifice scene and the implication that there will also be cannibalism in some form. It all takes place in front of a cult group in a pyramid. (So, it's very like that Indiana Jones scene--minus the lava, but there is a giant bonfire.) While the child due to be killed is not one of the main kids and is ultimately saved, there have been previous missing kids who weren't so lucky. It's not graphic per se. The villain describes what he is going to do and makes preparations to do it. In a previous scene, there is a character who drinks something that possibly contains blood and there are implications that the "Fountain of Youth" concoctions they're all drinking contain some essence of previously killed victims... though it's really glossed over and not focused on.The main characters in this are eleven years old, but kids generally read up so you'd expect kids aged 8-11 to be interested. On the other hand, how do you know your child has reached that crucial "I'm okay with human sacrifice and implied cannibalism" stage? I have a nine and a ten year old, and I'm not entirely sure this wouldn't give my ten year old nightmares. She's a bit more sensitive.I still whole-heartedly recommend it. It was pure genius from beginning to end, but sensitive kids or kids who visualize far beyond the book's details might want to wait until they're older.

This engaging book pulled me in on the first page and I couldn't let go. It is an amusing, intriguing and well thought out mystery, but it is also an inspiring and magical story. It's like a comedy-action-adventure-mystery with magic. It was pure joy to read and easily the best book I have read this year. I have already begun reading it again. Once you enter the world of Cass and Max-Ernest you will never want to leave. It is a kid's book but like Harry Potter before it, everyone can get wrapped up in the world Bosch creates. I really loved this book and recommend it to anyone who likes to read. This book is a MUST!!!

You've "spilled the beans" and with them made the most irresistable dish of alchemy and intrigue that had me giggling and engaged with every page. Thank you for making the "footnote" something to look forward to (where else can kids and adults alike get a humorously concise yet accurate explanation of Art Nouveau, Mussolini and synesthesia?) and surprising me with plot twists (and puzzles!) when I least expected them. My apologies, sir, but I will not keep this secret. This holiday season I know what I'll be giving all the readers I know: The deliciously secret story by the charmingly pendantic Pseudonymous Bosch.

By Sarah Stuart My review is based on a pre-publication copy of Missing: Dead or Alive.The story opens with every parent’s worst nightmare: their son fails to come home from school, and makes no contact. They wait… and wait… as the hours tick past, and finally dial 999. The police offer no help: children much younger than fourteen go missing often, but they usually come back. Forty-eight hours later, when no friends or relations the couple contact have news of the boy, the police do start an investigation, and discover nothing.A television appeal is set up. We’ve all seen them… the much-loved son or daughter… a good student… friendly and thoughtful… It’s always someone else’s child, except this time it’s the only son of Maria and Bob Shepherd. Slowly, as the cracks begin to show in Maria and Bob’s marriage, facts come out that don’t add up with “the perfect son”. Evidence, some faked, some perhaps true, reveal a Tim his parents don’t recognise.Maria, who almost lost her life giving birth to Tim, idolises him and refuses to accept that she will never see him again.. Bob doesn’t want to admit the boy with whom he shared football, and so much more, would stay away if he was free to return. Painfully Realistic (Possible Spoilers) By KOBAM A son disappears, parents despair then slowly unravel, police accuse the innocent deepening the rapidly developing psychoses, time fails to heal anything, and the sounds of sorrow go on and on. This scenario has unfurled itself over and over in highly followed news stories throughout the world. Now it is painstakingly detailed in this psychological thriller. Do not read this book If you have a missing child, it will cut your heart to the quick. I highly recommend it to readers who love suspense thrillers and are willing to endure the high drama this family is thrust into.
