By Sashimoto I am a HUGE fan of The Edge Chronicles - it could go on forever and I still would never get enough of it! I will happily buy and read every single Edge series book you two guys write for this series! I cannot hide my enthusiasm & excitement that there are more in the future! I live in the US, but went to a great many pains to switch over to Amazon.UK so I could read this book now, instead a hundred months from now when it is released to the US market - hey, a fans got to do what a fans got to do to make sure they are truly worthy of the title! :)This is the most ingenious, clever and creative series I have ever been fortunate enough to read! I sincerely hope this will someday be made into a series of movies & that Chris Riddell illustrates it (real actors won't be as magical I'm afraid) - because one just won't be enough - however I hope it's essence is not twisted & changed the way most books are when producers & directors feel they can do a better job than the original authors & illustrators who created the series universe in the first place. |***Stewart & Riddell: Stand strong on this! Your fans are counting on you!***|Sort of disappointed that we didn't get to find out about Nate Quarter & Ifflix Hentadile's adventurous journey descending over The Edge, and what they found there. Does the cliff face ever end, an if so, what is at the bottom? Our earth perhaps? Are we all fourthlings, descendents of The Edge-land ancestry? What did they find? And how does Nate have a sibling(s)? I thought he was an only child. where is Quint Verginix's knight academic picture pendant now? Does Eudoxia still have it? Is she & it safe still living on the Sanctaphrax Rock? Has Nate ever returned to her? These burning questions - and many more, need to be answered!I hope the next book is released soon! I'll waiting ...

By Nicole This novel is one of those stories that suck you in and stay with you for a long time. Finn is a unique male protagonist, and his voice adds a dimension to this story that is rare in young adult fiction. He is a dimensional character that is flawed, and he struggles with coming to terms with the dreams he has for himself and the dreams his family has for him. But he isn't a jerk, or some sort of bad boy. At his core he wants to do what is right, he just doesn't always know what that is.The secondary characters really make this story a gem — the love interest Piper is strong and determined. She has ideals that put her at odds with Finn at times, and this really adds a layer to the story's complexity. Nothing is black and white. Also, his family is central to this story. His relationship with his sister really matters to him, and I think that is important in a young adult book from a guys POV.But the character that really steals the show is Barstow. Now, I want to clarify something here- I am not an animal lover. And animals in books aren't usually my cup of tea, but Carpenter really nailed it. The telepathy never felt cheesy or too "young"— it felt like Barstow, although a dog— was as real as any other character in the novel.I highly recommend this novel for younger teens and think fans of The Unwanteds and Wildwood would really enjoy this novel.

2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. A thought provoking read aloud. By Amazon Customer I thoroughly enjoyed this coming of age dystopian novel. As an elementary school teacher, it can be challenging to find novels that are appropriate for intermediate students while being thought-provoking and interesting. Finding Axiom was a great read aloud. My students and I could easily relate to Finn's doubts and worries and the relationships in this book are familiar and well crafted. I appreciated that Ms. Carpenter created a character who was a thinker, someone who questioned his place in life while struggling with his wish to remain respectful to his family. As Finn uncovered more about his "perfect" life we found ourselves rooting for him and his faithful companion. I can't wait to read the rest of this trilogy and am happy to have introduced this book to my students.

Excellent story By Wyogoody I have to admit, after reading the first few chapters, I think I better understand how my parents felt/feel when they can't make what they think is the best decision for me. Granted, we were reading through Finn's perspective, but I saw his frustration and his parents' and I now understand better and dread when my kids embark on independence... that being said, Ms. Carpenter sucked me in right away with this frustration and then, as the story progresses, with the character's evolution and the complete dysfunction of the society. I really liked the characters and am intrigued to see what happens next. I will definitely be reading the next 2 books.

It is refreshing because so many books are all about mothers and kids but dads are sometimes left out. This book is all about dads and their kids playing around and then going to sleep. Its a great picture book for dads to read to kids before bedtime. The pictures are beautifully illustrated.

By Autumn Fallen Over Book Reviews We received this book from NetGalley to give an honest review.I read this to K last night and he seemed to be okay with it, the only question he asked was why are the animals calling their children, children? He said they are not children they have names for what they are. Which he is right, example in the story we have a father rabbit hopping with his children which should be called kits or kitten, bears should be called cubs and so forth. The story is very short and to the point I would recommend this story to the younger kids I plan on reading this story to A tonight and she is two. I think she would enjoy it more than her brother did. The pictures go well with the theme and you get to see different animal fathers hanging with their "children" and doing different things with them.I would say perfect for a bedtime read as it is short and to the point.

Excellent Series By Janice Hoskins, Author I just finished a great journey following Natalie Hudson through “Natalie’s Choices”, “Natalie’s Commitments”, and the third and final in the series, “Natalie’s Consequences”. She, and her best friend Tori, learn with every choice and commitment, there is a consequence, good or bad, that must be dealt with. Read how Natalie, with the help of her parents, grows into a spiritual woman of strong faith, told in a wonderful story. Author Linda Robinson has done a fantastic job of setting the stage and telling a story of the many pitfalls of young people who make life altering choices, both good and bad, and how they struggle with what to do; finally realizing, with God’s help they can accept the consequences with grace and turn them into positives. This story is for all ages, but I most certainly recommend it for all young adults. Great job, Linda.

She has done a fantastic job in bringing you into her charaters situations. When reading them I feel as tho I am right there beside each and everyone of them while they are sorting out their situations. I am very saden to hear this series has ended. But I do hope Linda you start a new series and give your young adults some nice clean enjoyable reading and bringing back some of our Lord into the lives of the young adults of todays world. Thank you Linda for your fine writing . You deserve an award for this series.

Now you know what it means to get the bird By bernie On the surface this is a poem Samuel Taylor Coleridge about a mariner that dispatches an albatross. Of course it is a metaphor and has deeper significance. Anyone can tell the tale but not as well (and graphic) as Coleridge.It is interesting how people that never really read the poem thing quote and misquote the poem. One thinks having an albatross around ones neck is because the bird is bad luck and not that the bird brought good luck until it was dispatched.I have a fancy hard copy of the poem. Although I also had some time on my hands and a kindle available. So I downloaded it and it was worth it. Mostly used text-to-speech but slowed down now and then to think about it instead of just reciting. Occasionally getting out the dictionary for a better definition.Anyway if you are just a casual reader or even in you have a hard copy this makes a great addition. As I read what others find in the writing I shale find myself re-reading to see what I have missed.

Greenagel Jr. It's worth 4.5 stars.Epting's art is very good (it reminds of of Philips, which may be why Brubaker likes working with him).We are in the middle of a nice period of strong female protagonists (Velvet, Lazarus, Azzarello's Wonder Woman, Snyder's Pearl Jones). These aren't forced attempts at being PC or grabbing new market shares, but instead quality characters in good stories.Brubaker expects a lot out of his readers here. The story flows well, but it is a complex spy tale. It's one of the very few books I think that I need to re-read in order to follow the next trade (when it comes out in 6 months -- if you are binge reading this in the future, then you'll be fine).

Velvet Templeton Returns to England By Zac Hanscom Velvet, Vol. 2: The Secret Lives of Dead Men won't come out for another month, but I read Velvet issues #6 through #10, and I thought I'd review it here and copy it onto Amazon in a month. Vol. 2 sees Velvet Templeton return to her home nation of England, where she makes contacts and tries to find out more about the conspiracy that drove her out of the spy organization AMC-7 and into hiding.Gripping, exciting, and beautifully drawn, Velvet is a title I'm sure I'll enjoy for years. I was already a fan of Ed Brubaker, but I might see myself looking for more work by the illustrator, Steve Epting. What makes Velvet so great is that you can enjoy individual issues, five-issue arcs, and the grand story of why Velvet Templeton was outed in the first place; only a fraction of this grand story has come out. ****1/2

By Wayne A McCoy 'Velvet Volume 2: The Secret Lives of Dead Men' is nothing short of amazing. You have a great script by Ed Brubaker and some truly great art by Steve Epting. It's absorbing and fast-paced.Velvet is back and she wants answers to the death she's seen or been part of. She decides to head right into the heart of it by going back to London. We get most of the story from her perspective, but there is an issue devoted to Colt and one to Roberts, both men trying to find Velvet and possibly kill her. Velvet is smart and seemingly one step ahead of them. She plays the game well, and she's not someone you want to cross. She is willing to do whatever it takes to find her answers, but there is another player in this deadly game, so Velvet better take care.The writing is as good as it gets. I think Ed Brubaker is my new favorite comics writer, so now I need to go find all the things he's written that I've missed. Tight, cinematic writing that just bullets along at high speed. The art by Steve Epting, along Elizabeth Breitweiser's colors, is just stunning. The painted covers to each issue are included and they beautifully set a tone for what's ahead. Believe the hype. This comic is that good.I received a review copy of this graphic novel from Diamond Book Distributors, Image Comics, and NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. Mira in the Present Tense is one such book. I picked it up from the library on a whim and am very pleased with my choice.Brahmachari has created memorable characters and released them into the real world. Mira is a complex twelve-year-old dealing with pressures both common and rare and she does so beautifully. Nana Josie is one of those grandmothers that could easily embarrass her grandchildren, but her eccentricities are such that said grandchildren accept her proudly. Both characters are fully developed and I longed to meet both of them.The story is wonderfully complex and elegantly simplistic. Mira experiences the angst of crossing thresholds such as getting her first period, opening her heart to a boy and discovering the ugly extremes of our world. At the same time, her Nana Josie is dying from cancer. Mira walks the path with her Nana by helping her paint the coffin she will be cremated in, joining her on a pilgrimage to say goodbye to places and people and simply sitting with her when she’s too tired to do anything else.I found this book to be an emotional journey that wrung tears from my eyes and filled my heart to bursting. Mira reminded me of my youth and the anxiety that goes with growing up; she made me see the death of my father (who I watched die of cancer) from another perspective. The story shed light on the Rwandan Genocide and the heartache of its survivors. So much emotion filled the pages of Mira in the Present Tense that I’ll not soon forget it.

I absolutely loved Meera and her quirky, real family, which is loving but not perfect. I loved her relationship with colorful, opinionated, artistic and occasionally deeply insensitive Nana Josie, who is dying of cancer but determined to "die well" - a process which includes painting her own coffin, with Meera's help.I loved that even though Meera's gradual loss of her grandmother is heartbreaking (and spot-on in terms of the emotional journey), this is not a depressing novel. It's just a beautiful, beautifully emotional novel, with sadness and joy perfectly balanced. Meera is losing her beloved grandmother; she's also falling in love for the first time, with a boy who has his own wounds and courage and heart. She's also finally finding her voice in public after too many years of trying to be invisible for her own protection.I stayed up too late reading this novel, even though I'm sleep-deprived, because I didn't want to let it go. "Beautiful" really is the best word for it. I can't wait to read the next book about Meera - and any other books that Sita Brahmachari has written.

Lytle When a woman comes to their school to teach a select few students about writing, twelve-year-old Mira is excited for the chance to be in the class with her best friend and a couple of boys she's known forever. Mira, who is half Indian, half Jewish has a beloved grandmother who is preparing for her impending death in a rather unconventional way. Mira must deal with many firsts in her life as she navigates a path from childhood to young adulthood.A well-written story that preteen girls will identify with no matter where they live or what their heritage is.

Good book to be more prepared when you are going to have “the talk” with your child By Mike It seems that kids are growing up ever faster these days, so they are also showing interest in sex at an earlier age, often at around 9 or 10 years old. It can be hard for parents to educate their children about sex at this young age. That’s what this book can help with.The most useful chapters for me were chapters 3 and 4, where the author goes into how to talk about puberty and sex and common questions to expect from your child. Good book to be more prepared when you are going to have “the talk” with your son about puberty and sex.

By Nina Parents do and still avoid talking about puberty and sex to their children, worrying they might themselves make their kids curious even more about it. This book is to help those parents change that. It would have had been easier for me during my puberty if my parents had been more open about it to me instead of leaving all the sex education to the school. Hence I personally really appreciate this book as what it delivers is very practical. Puberty and sex are sensitive subjects to discuss, especially to the children. Therefore what to tell and how to tell them are crucial. This book has details on how to initiate the talk to your son, including timing as well as what information parents need to prepare. It also includes "talking method" so that it goes like open and straightforward communication, not a lecture. Common questions and answers are also given so that the parents won't be left confused. Highly recommended!

By Dr ashley green i think this book is better for 9 and up, because of some scary senes. depending on if your kids get scared easy. its a really good book, but kinda freakdd me out when i read the firt one. all the talk about th plaugh, and how belle caught it and turned into tje undead, well i thinnk a bit inaproprite. all in all, i think it was good.

After being confined to her bed for years by an incurable illness, Nirit experienced the same triumph of spirit that many of her characters undergo in their journeys through lands near and far. She has successfully joined the ranks of children's books writers - but her stories, while humorous, encourage children to stretch their imagination while learning some valuable lessons. She has elected to have Fanny Liem provide the illustrations for this her sixth children's book to appear on Kindle.Very much on the light side Nirit introduces Bart - silly little boy who every chance he gets Bart farts - an unpleasant smelly cloud always surrounds him.' It happens in the morning upon rising, at breakfast where his family has to open windows to let out the stench, in elevators, in the car, at kindergarten, at this grandparents - and his response is always the same: he giggles, and pays no attention to pleas for him to stop the farts. But he gets a dose of his own medicine at the theater when a dirty little kid starts letting stinky ones. Bart is upset because the farting kid ruined his good time. And from that lesson he learns that his farts are not funny, that they offend people and from then on he stopped farting, realizing that his previous habit was as offensive to others as was his response to the kid in the theater.Lesson learned and a fun little funny story that children will get many giggle from while learning manners and control of habits. (=^.^=) By Caroline I am in fourth grade and I think this book was really really funny and it also taught a really good lesson. The pictures are amazing and the book has an awesome free gift that my little brother and I had fun coloring in and cutting out. =)Actually my little brother begged me to read this book to him and this is the first ever story about farts that I’ve EVER read. It was hard for me and my little brother not to laugh as I read it to him and he wanted me to read it again and again.It’s about someone called Bart and he really likes to fart. He thinks that it’s funny to fart around everyone but that can be so annoying and stinky, too. But luckily he learns to not do that and that it was rude to fart around everyone just for fun. I think everyone should read this book so people can be nicer around others and if you need to fart you should try and do it away from people so it’s less stinky for everyone. It’s a perfect book for little brothers like mine who think farting is funny and helps makes things better for everyone, like me, who wants a stinky free zone. :)

By David R A short, funny, and educational story that children will love to read, not just because of the colorful illustrations but because of the interesting story too. I bought this for my niece and I have to admit, I got curious too of the story (since it is unusual for a children’s book to talk about fart) so I read it as well and I think this is a perfect funny story for kids. After reading the book, my niece talked a lot about Bart and farts. But when I asked her about what she learned from the story, she said, “Respect others. Be considerate of the people around so don’t fart near them!” :)

The ending was unexpected, but satisfying. The book itself is of wonderful quality, and this is a really good deal for what is essentially an art book that is a lot of fun. The pictures are so rich and detailed, and even more fun as there are cardinals hidden in each one. The story and artwork are perfect complements, and I am so glad I found out about this book.I would recommend it to anyone who likes things that are quirky, really fantastic art, and great storytelling of a somewhat macabre but romantic type. :-) The artwork is reminiscent, I thought, of Dave McKean (with differences, of course).
