I have spent most of my life going above and beyond to help others, and treating myself poorly. This book has revolutionized how I view my worth to others. I only have so much time, and most of it is not guaranteed. As a 24 year old, I feel as if I am way behind in life and that I have not reached my potential, despite comparing my accolades the majority of my peers. I want more, I deserve more, and by being conscious of my time I can focus on what needs to be done to get what I want, as well as help others along the way when the time is right. The book was a very quick reflection of my life, and much needed reality check that even though you may not have a lot of time left, there is always more life to live.

I going to make better choices. Steve Jobs was 56 when he passed but what an impact he had on Earth. What am I going to do?I can understand the portions of the book relating to the death of his parents. It really makes you think hard about your life. This is a good book for college students and young professionals.

The bickering trio are back in this latest Raven Siren Case File Special! It's a family affair as Fred and Harry come to Siren on bended knee to investigate a case that neither of them can get close to. Ryan Barlow, Fred's brother and only living relative is in trouble, the kind of trouble that will end up with him in prison or dead, unless Siren can do something to help. Sonya Lesner, a woman of some dubious reputation has been found murdered and Ryan is the prime suspect. Not only that, but the crime scene has been staged to send a message to one of the trio and Siren is certain that she has heard the name, Sonya Lesner, before. Of all the cases Siren has taken, there has never been more at stake as she digs into the past to try and find some answers. Nicolette Mace is a private investigator out of necessity, not choice. With her family dead and nowhere else to turn she had to learn to stand on her own two feet and live the only way her father ever taught her to. Life as a private investigator isn't all big cases, excitement and arch enemies. Filling the Afterlife from the Underworld follows the day to day musings and activities of Nicolette Mace: The Raven Siren, taken from her online blog. "My name is Nicolette Mace, but you might know me as the Raven Siren. I'm a Private Investigator living the 1930s romantic dream in this new and exciting modern age. I keep records of everything that happens; everything I have seen and done. Why? There are more things in heaven and earth, Horatio, than are dreamed of in your philosophies." Effortless By D M Singh Crime is not my thing, I feel as if the literary world, TV and the film industry is over-run with the same old, regurgitated stories. So I generally do not read crime novels, as I am more often than not, let down. This however is an absolute triumph! The main character Raven is sassy and smart-mouthed and I loved her. The author’s creation of this crime-noir persona and those around her is astounding. The story is engaging and had me gripped from start to finish. There are books that are so easy to read it’s like breathing the story in, this is one of those books! Before I knew it I was at the end and absolutely gutted that I was, thankfully it’s a series. Hurrah!I was also excited to discover that the author writes epic fantasy novels, which is my usual genre to read and so I think my bank balance will be taking a hit over the next few months but I’ll be a happy little, bookworm.I have heard rumblings that this might be made into an Amazon TV show, I really hope that’s true!On to book 2.

The atypical female private detective, the story's narrator, and the comical interaction between her and her two police contacts held my interest and made this short story enjoyable.

This is a new author to me and I really like C.S Wooley’s style. I liked the humour and the asides that she used throughout. The narrative flowed easily and the storyline was good. I wasn’t left with the feeling that it was unfinished although It paved the way for the next story at the same time. The protagonist was likeable. Will be reading more by this author.

The problem is the first twenty percent of this novel was difficult to get through. There was too much talk about the relationship between Jen and her husband. I got the picture after a brief discussion. Some was need to develop their characters, but there were paragraphs and paragraphs of it. This took away from the mystery and intrigue that had been introduced.Despite that and some rough transitions, a bit of head hopping, and some minor inconsistencies, the plot was well conceived and the characters were well developed. Two things I especially liked in the story were the inclusion of Greek culture and the two different endings that showed the paths Jen had the option of taking. This was quite clever. I was kept wondering if one path would have lead to disaster. But, you'll have to read for yourself to find out.

Wilkinson Jenna's Journey (A Greek Island Mystery) by Julie RyanJenna decides to take a trip to Greece to get away from her husband Greg. Her marriage is not going so well, and she needs time to think things through. While there she finds(herself) twisted into an antiques smuggling ring, falls for a native named Nikos, and has major life altering decisions to make.I liked Jenna, as a young woman the problem she faces are real. I loved the descriptions of Greece and some of the culture. There were a few minor characters that had a role in the story. At a few points I was a bit confused, but overall the plot was very interesting and good. I recommend to those who love drama/romance/mystery.

2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. Jenna's Journey By Lynne Brown From the prologue of "Jenna's Journey" the author, Julie Ryan, pulls the reader into the story. The romantic mystery takes place in London and Greece and Ms. Ryan's descriptive language paints the scene so thoroughly one could imagine being in either venue along with the characters.Ms. Ryan does an excellent job in developing the characters, who were both believable and relatable. Written in third person narrative, each chapter alternatively focuses on the perspective of one of the main characters. Ms. Ryan very successfully employs this method to provide the reader with insight into each character's motivation and develop a connection between the readers and the characters.A romantic mystery, "Jenna's Journey" was an enjoyable read that was believable until the end when the author provides multiple endings to the story - three to be exact. After investing in the characters, the book's multiple choice ending was disappointing. I am not sure what the author was trying to achieve, but it appears to me that she fell short of achieving it. Two of the endings are not feasible with the beginning of the book - they just don't work if we believe the opening scene. I was left feeling cheated in as much as the author appears to be unable to decide how to end the story. The fact that two of the endings didn't align with the beginning, left me wanting to rewrite the story's ending. That being said, ultimately the book was an enjoyable read and I would recommend reading it. Knowing that you will be left having to decide what happened to the characters should prevent any disappointment in the lack of a concrete ending. Perhaps like me, you will come up with an alternative scenario.Note: I received a copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.

“If there’s one thing Sophia Rossi understands completely–it’s besties. Only an ultimate BFF like Sophia could create the super-special bond that Harper and Lily have in A TALE OF TWO BESTIES.” —Lauren Conrad “Plumbing the depths of friendship and cliques, this debut novel will speak to fans of Rossi’s popular website, HelloGiggles, as well as all girls trying to discover their own identity while learning what it means to really be friends.” —Booklist*Featuring a foreword by 'New Girl' star Zooey Deschanel*Perfect for fans of Kody Keplinger's The DUFF and Morgan Matson's Since You've Been Gone, the delightfully funny debut novel A TALE OF TWO BESTIES is full of giggles and surprises. Best friends. BFFs. Soul twinsies. Whatever you want to call them, Harper and Lily were born to be besties. With high school just around the corner, casual-cool Cali girl Harper and awkward, always-costumed Lily make sure to text each other every day about their bond:   Harper: I love you so much that I am going to sneak out of detention to pay that guy from Craigslist $100 to cut off all your hair for my secret collection. Lily: I love you so much I’m going destroy everyone in your life that matters and force you to depend and love only me. Harper: That sounds beautiful. I love you.   Not even the threat of different high schools could throw this BFFship off-course, even if Lily begs her parents not to send her to the “dreaded Pathways," a special school for creative types, while effortlessly-popular Harper attends Beverly High with the rest of their class.   But in a city where fitting in means standing out and there’s nothing more uncool than being cool, it’s the naturally charismatic Harper--with her blond hair and perfect bone structure--who finds herself fighting the tide of American Apparel’d teens who rule the school. Meanwhile, it’s the perpetually “gawkward” Lily--who accessories every ensemble with a pair of tattered fairy wings--who finds herself flying alongside the queen bees of Pathways. Can BFF-ship survive the tidal wave of HS drama, or does growing up mean leaving some friends behind? “It's like my twins stepped out of the eighties and dropped down into today. Deliciously funny with heart.” – Francine Pascal, bestselling author and creator of the Sweet Valley High series

A Tale of Two Besties: A Hello Giggles Novel, by Sophia Rossi

From School Library Journal Gr 7–10—The satisfactory story of two besties charts the emotional ups and downs of freshman year of high school, with a heavy-handed dose of consumer label name dropping. Together since fourth grade, Lily and Harper are BFFs who begin their freshman year in different schools. Lily has always been the outsider and Harper the popular one. When the year begins, their roles are reversed and each has difficulty navigating their changed status. Always unique, Lily wears fairy wings and marches to the beat of her own drum. At her new creative school, she immediately hits it off with the in-crowd, becoming a fashion trendsetter. Harper, usually the quintessential popular California girl, starts off her freshman year with detention and soon after becomes the star of an embarrassing viral video. At a time when the two girls need each other the most, they just can't connect. There are touching moments, and the dialogue feels genuine. However, secondary characters, with the notable exception of Lily's former and Harper's current love interest Tim, seem mostly two-dimensional, created to represent an archetype. Only the two best friends are fully formed. This creates a problem because the bulk of the action takes place when the two main characters are separated. As in most light friendship stories, the friends are somewhat unrealistically reunited in the end. VERDICT A serviceable novel that will appeal to young teens looking for a light and frothy friendship tale.—Cindy Wall, Southington Library & Museum, CT

Review “If there’s one thing Sophia Rossi understands completely–it’s besties. Only an ultimate BFF like Sophia could create the super-special bond that Harper and Lily have in A TALE OF TWO BESTIES.” —Lauren Conrad   “It's like my twins stepped out of the eighties and dropped down into today. Deliciously funny with heart.” —Francine Pascal, creator of Sweet Valley High   “Plumbing the depths of friendship and cliques, this debut novel will speak to fans of Rossi’s popular website, HelloGiggles, as well as all girls trying to discover their own identity while learning what it means to really be friends.” —Booklist"Rossi has a handle on teen voices and emotions, and offers a distinctive take on personal integrity, conformity, stereotyping, peer pressure, bullying, and loyalty."—Publishers Weekly

But, even though the reading experience was fun, I couldn't connect with A Tale of Two Besties.I think the issue really comes down to age. I'm too old for this story, which makes perfect sense since the demographic probably falls somewhere between middle to high schoolers. Also, the author loves to name drop---like every few sentences. I guess this might serve as a way to attach the novel to the new generation but I don't know if I enjoyed it. Honestly, I didn't always get what she was talking about (again, I'm old) so it annoyed me more often than not. One thing that I actually liked were the messages between Lily and Harper. They are quirky and remind me that there's nothing better than being your geeky self with your best friend. I love that this is a story about two female characters since there are so few available for younger teens. That being said, I'm a little sad that this didn't exist when I was in middle school. I think I would've liked it a lot more then.I think you should skip this one if you're over 16. However, if you have a little sister/cousin/etc or if you're about to start high school, this novel is definitely for you!

Rossi's 'A Tale of Two Besties' is such a funny, such a feel-good read By Gina Sophia Rossi's 'A Tale of Two Besties' is such a funny, such a feel-good read. It took me a total of two days to read it; I actually, PHYSICALLY couldn't put it down. The story of Harper and Lily reminded me so much of my teenhood/middle school experience with my BFF. This book is also just super fun to read —it's written in both linear and text message format, so it feels super immediate, like you're there with the girls. I would recommend this to anyone who wanted a sweet, funny read about two best friends growing up. Be prepared to feel some feelings! :)

On this book, it teaches more about overcoming the emotional abuse, proven strategies and techniques that could guide everyone of us to avoid self pity and losing self confidence. Meta City... Home to former superheroes and super-villains... home to hundreds of thousands of metahumans who just have a few powers or advantages that 99+% of humanity doesn't have. Meta City - a prison with walls of velvet, so comfortable, so inviting, that once you are there you really never want to leave... Meta City - Home to Christopher Colvard, a young man of nine who was arrested and had an explosive collar placed around his neck by the police because he was a newly discovered metahuman who had hit a baseball a little too hard at a little league game. This is mostly his story... mostly.

5 of 6 people found the following review helpful. Paul Phipps just keeps getting better. By Michael Huston The novel is set around 80 years in the future where all humans who develop extraordinary powers are exiled to one city so normal humans can be safe in the rest of the world. The main character is a boy, even more gifted than the rest of the people in the city. He was sent to the city when he was eight and most of this story is centered around his 17th year when the zombie apocalypse begins. This novel is much different from Paul Phipps previous novels which were more space science fiction which were good and then got better with "TSN: The Sea of Grass." This novel is well edited and free of sex scenes. Books which are similar: "Armageddon Girl" and "Keystones: Altered Destinies." People who like the Ell Donsaii series would probable like this novel.

By InsaneChemist The book is interesting, and the concepts are good, but the author suffers from Excessive Capital Syndrome, as well as a number of grammatical errors. In addition, the main character is overpowered to the extreme, has amazing strengths of every power, and is simply better than anyone else. While this is interesting for a little bit, it gets old quickly.

2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. the good, bad and kind of ugly By HeroFan The good:Story setting is neat.We see the world through the eyes of a young boy, then later teenager. So I get that the world isn't going to be 100% fleshed out. Do you know ALL the aspects of your world? Probably not. It was however detailed enough for me to go ok. fine. It works. The MC, main character, comes across as pretty much laid back. If he isn't supposed to be that way, perhaps more oomph is needed?I do like the apocalyptic tone that is building up from the premise of the book. That is always a favorite of mine. If you want to read a really good one with supers and zombies, go check out Ex-Heroes by Peter Clines. The bad: Perhaps better details about his school and the city? I would prefer more details about the curriculum if he's spending a lot of time in school. And the city itself should have more character: dark?bright? gray? dismal or dank areas? Not all cities are perfect. I don't get that 'life' vibe when I think about the city. The ugly: No challenges to the MC. Things seem to fall into his lap or he finds answers to his problems super easily. Too easy at times. Don't get me wrong. I love Superman, but even he has a few weaknesses. They get exploited all the time in his stories to balance out his Super..I don't get that with the MC here. Where is the MC's Luthor? or his Joker? After all, a great hero is made great by his great Villain or Villainess. And oh, FIRE the editor. Honestly, the writer should. I agree with the others who harped on that. This novel has ALOT of potential and parts of it seemed ruined by the bad editor. Especially as the novel wound down, it seemed the editing quality went to the bucket in the later 20% of the book. So yeah, FIRE the editor.Hopefully we get those in the next installment. I will be there if he does continue. But honestly, the bad and ugly are why I removed the extra star. I kept it a solid 4 because I FINISHED this book without stopping, except for work, bathroom breaks and dinner. Ok mostly due to work.Mr Phipps: You write. And I will keep Kindle Unlimited to read.
