AMAZING By Krystle I was a little skeptical at first because this isn't a well-known author, but I have to say I was thoroughly impressed with this book. It was exciting, adventurous and romantic! I guarantee anyone will like it. If you're a Twilight fan or Harry Potter fan, it is definitely for you! I've never finished a book so fast. Ahhh, if only it were real :P

From a very early age, she felt like she didn't 't belong due to her father's disappointment that she wasn't a boy. Throughout her life, she suffers through abuse from a relative, her parent's divorce, a teen pregnancy, her sexual orientation, and discovering who she is.I liked the book and once again Storm shows she's not afraid to tackle any subject. I loved the message she conveys about finding yourself and being happy with who you are. There were a few typos, but other than that this is a great story.

I applaud her courage and candor as she details her years of suffering at the hands of supposed loved ones and state agencies By Rosalyn This book was a true sacrifice of the author-- pouring her soul into each page and disrobing her shame in the hopes that it will liberate others with similar accounts and empower them too to advocate for change in the child welfare system. I applaud her courage and candor as she details her years of suffering at the hands of supposed loved ones and state agencies. My heart both hurt for her and cheered for her as I read her metamorphosis from the little girl in the attic to the Butterfly--unbound and free.Congratulations Shandreka! They couldn't break you!

By kelly j. gardner As a former victim of the Foster Care system, I have a firsthand knowledge of what the author so bravely displayed in her book, so as I read her words it felt as though I was having a one on one conversation with her, which I feel would be very therapeutic to other victims as they can see that there are real people out here in the world that also share their same upbringing, background and similar experiences as well, which might in turn make them more willing to open up about their selves and seek counseling as well as the possibility of wanting to help others in the same situation. As I stated earlier, the author was so brave to open up and show her vulnerable side to the world which I find so refreshing as well as I see that it was step towards her overcoming her circumstances and eventually steps on the road to being healed with an ultimate goal of learning the value of one’s true self-worth…

James The author really opened up herself and showed a level of vulnerability, I am not sure I would have been able.Shandreka took me on a journey that made me question my way of thinking. I realized (as continue to do each day) that we are nothing more than our life experiences strung together and these experiences shape how we react to different events, issues, conflicts as well as celebrations.In short- we all are going to react to things differently and even if I don't agree I should take a minute to try to understand where a person is coming from.I also realized that the Foster Care system is broken (like many other systems) in this country. It is extremely unfortunate that Shandreka was forced to endure all that she has, but I am so happy that God and the universe turned things around for her.

Debunking the myths of marriage and seeing the true picture By Denniger Bolton Something the author, Bryan Bruce said toward the beginning of his book rang true for me: “Cheating can be deemed as a foolish attempt to find external solutions to what are internal concerns - self-respect and self-worth.” The cheater wants something but can’t seem to find it in the relationship he or she is in. The book goes on to explain the whys and hows. The need for sexual conquest, the need to find satisfaction elsewhere, the need for a younger love, the lure of the forbidden. When you marry someone you find qualities and habits you were unaware of before. But the big one for me is that couples cheat because they want to feel good again. Mr. Bruce goes on to talk of forgiveness which works not so much on the cheating person as it does on the cheated. A lot of this book is about forgiveness.

Interesting book on human nature By GermCrazy I love books about human nature and, especially, about the psychology of doing bad things (whether it be cheating or otherwise). I am endlessly intrigued by the different ways that people can show their "darker" sides as well as the different points of views & recommendations of experts on said faults. This books did not disappoint in that regard. It was an interesting study on the topic of love, relationships & infidelity and included quite a bit of immediately useful information for those in need. Recommended whether you are simply interested in the subject of being human OR are going through something like this in your own life.

From Publishers Weekly Gorman (The Marvelous Makeover of Lizard Flanagan) retreads Polonius's well-worn exhortation in this familiar tale of a sixth-grader who wants to be "cool." When his family moves, science-loving Jerry resolves to shed his "dork" image. Hence he starts at his new school in a blur, because he leaves his uncool glasses at home. However, his vision isn't so fuzzy that he can't see and fall hard for gorgeous airhead Cinnamon, who, in turn, is impressed by the handsome and equally vacuous Gabe. What's a dork to do? Under the unlikely tutelage of classmate Brenda (who tells Jerry that it takes a dork to know one), he learns to rip his new jeans fashionably and to strut, and with his new look and the self-promoting lies he spins, he's in like Flynn. The only problem is that Jerry finds that he's happier with Brenda and the other science club members than with Cinnamon's vapid crowd. It doesn't take much to figure out which group Jerry will ultimately decide to stick with. The story is essentially amiable, but even though Gorman has one of the "cool" boys furtively express an interest in science, the portrayal of good-looking kids as shallow ignoramuses and intellectuals as unattractive misfits perpetuates stereotypes. From School Library Journal Grade 3-6-Jerry Flack is really smart-smart enough to have been labeled dork, geek, and nerd throughout his school career. When his family moves to a new town, he sees the possibilities for a major lifestyle change. Hiding his glasses in his backpack and his academic abilities behind ripped jeans and a cool-guy strut (which he perfects in the mirror at home), Jerry manages to insinuate himself into the coolest group in the sixth grade. He is puzzled and disappointed when life isn't as exciting as he expected, and he is unsure how to respond when he's invited to join the science team, based on his outstanding record from his previous school. Jerry loves science (he is even building a working hovercraft at home), but competing on the team is definitely uncool. On the other hand, the science-team kids are more interesting to be around. It's a tough choice, but in the end Jerry decides that being himself is a lot more fun than being cool. Dork in Disguise is similar in setting, mood, and message to Gorman's The Miraculous Makeover of Lizard Flanagan (HarperCollins, 1994), about a sixth-grade girl trying to reconcile her identity as a jock with the social expectations that come along with entering middle school. From Booklist Jerry Flack has always scored high on the "dorkometer" of life, but this year, at a new school, he's determined to get into the cool group. The first thing to go is his glasses. Cool guys do not wear glasses. On the first day, a girl asks outright why he's not wearing them. She noticed his squinting and the dents on the sides of his nose. Right away she's blown his cover. Jerry quickly discovers that Brenda McAdams reads him like a book, but she's still friendly and even offers to help him change his image. After telling a few lies about himself, Jerry is soon "in." But there's a cost: he absolutely adores science, but he can't be on the science team. He also has to keep lying, and he can't be true to the feelings he begins to have for Brenda. In this hilarious novel, wonderfully constructed and beautifully paced, Jerry and Brenda are believable, as is their friendship, which Jerry fortunately chooses instead of maintaining his guise. This story tells how Jerry tries to find is old dorky self through his popularity. Lovely discription.

Dork in Disguise By A Customer A boy named Jerry Flack is starting junior high and he really wants to change his whole personality just to be popular. He was used to being the big science nerd of his elementry school and now he would try so hard to be like the popular Gabe, who is the cool skateborder and Cinnamon, the most beautiful girl in school. He wants to be just like them, hang out with them, and be known throughout the school just like them. He later meets his best friend named Brenda who tries to teach him that he is cool in his own way and that he didn't have to be like everyone else to prove that. Jerry goes through some pretty hard times to figure that out. But to figure out the rest you need to read this wonderful book. It might even teach you that you need to be your own person and that everyone is cool in their own way. This book was wonderful to be an it will be for you too.

Carol Gorman shows what it is like to try to be cool in sixth grade at a new school after being at a school where eveybody considered you a dork.
