My Name Is Caroline is a wonderful book for anyone who is/was bulimic. She never tried to hide any of her feelings in this book. You understand and sympathize with her. She is the typical/textbook bulimic. Upper-middle class, perfectionist, controlling parents... She shows you that there is hope and that you don't have to live your life like this.

Not just for bulimics, this book offers insight into emotional attachments one may have to eating and food. It is truly an interesting and easy to read story. Keep this one on hand to reread when you need encouragement or have lost sight of your ultimate goal of staying healthy and happy.

Remarkable story By Kindle Customer This woman's life paralleled mine in so many ways--Harvard undergrad, young to marry, overachiever, and now bulimic. Caroline offers a path to recovery that I personally think is the only truly effective way: enlisting the help of God. This book is written in such a way that it won't trigger eating disorder behaviors, which many of the books on the subject do. I highly recommend this book to people who are in a dark place right now looking for hope and an answer to their prayers.

When you first start the novel you are introduced to Elle. She is a girl who lost her sight and her best friend all in one day. She has not been able to see for 8 years and then one day someone tells her to take a leap of faith, and she is not sure why but she does. Her life is immediately taken on an entirely different journey then she expected. As you continue with the novel there are multiple characters that are introduced but each one of them brings something new to the story. The journey is a long one for each character as everyone is being put out of their comfort zone and immersed into a different part of their world ACRYEN. Each character struggles and deals with all sorts of issues that people can relate to on a day-to-day basis. Your emotions are all over the place with this novel because there are times when you are extremely happy. Other times you want to set the book down and cry because of what the character has suffered. I can honestly say I cannot wait for the next book to come out in the series!

Highly Recommend By Genevieve Thie The first book of the Acryen series, Will of Hope, tells a well-written story about a young girl, struggling with two sudden and traumatic changes in her life, is transported to another world. It's a wonderful story filled with action, suspense and heartwarming moments.Will of Hope keeps me on my toes with every chapter I finish. I have never felt this way while reading a book in a really long time. Yasmin Fazli's ability to switch POVs between the character is extraordinary and only leaves me eager to read on to find out more about the characters. After finishing this I am anxious for the next book of this series to be released so I can continue to learn more about the wonderful characters.I highly recommend this book to people who love Game of Thrones and Chronicles of Narnia, and readers who enjoy fantasy literature.

I'm usually not much into reading keeping a busy life and usually i find it hard to find a book i can't stop reading. But that was the cause. I love every sec off reading it i stayed on the edge of my sit with each word i read...By far i would recommend it to ANYBODY that like sci-fi/fantasy and can not wait to read more. of the series.

Peasant boy discovers his "curse". Turns out he is fantastic at all magic instantly. Goes back and forth between two noble families at war instantly. Learns almost nothing. Blindly rushes into everything but survives and triumphs because he is fantastic at all magic instantly. Despite being teen age peasant noble girls fall for him because he is "sweet". I was suspicious because of the 5 star reviews but saw the author has other books so thought it should be half decent at least - not so. What author could do to fix the book:1. Make him actually learn something rather than instant mastery2 some character development beyond blindly believing what he had been told despite apparent injustices.3. Less focus on how taken everyone is with him. Have him work for something.4. Less focus on the battles and more on character development.
19 of 20 people found the following review helpful. The hero is a bumbler. Big hearted but completely Ineffectual. By Hierarchy I like heroes that make plans and accomplish them. But as they say, No plan survives contact with the enemy. So, I like heroes that can adapt rapidly to still obtain their goals.Well, this hero was an idiot. He didnt know anything. He couldnt do anything. And when he once in a while did something right, it was always by accident. He was a simpleton, that trusted everyone. Trusted the bad guys. Trusted the good guys. He couldn't pick a side.Add to that, that the story happened to him. He was a dupe. He got shoved around by everyone. For the entire book. Everyone used him for their own purposes. He was a fall guy, a village idiot, a lovesick puppy, a minion, collateral damage, and the list goes on. It was disgusting. Its really hard to connect to a hero that has no power, and is unable to make a difference in the story.Then there was the lack of honest people. Everyone was lying to everyone. Everyone betrayed everyone. Felt like the t.v. show "Lost". Which means that really quickly, the reader realizes that since you cant trust anyone to be honest (or right), there is no reason to emotionally connect to the characters. And if you cant connect to the characters, then its really hard to care about the story. And since both sides are lying about everything, or refusing to clue the reader in to the situation, the reader doesnt know who to root for. Which means that its even harder to get emotionally engaged (excited) about the story.Then there were the battles. Everyone was superhuman, so no one died and no one won. They just bashed each other around. Took a break. Then went back at it. Which means that the story went no where. Since Action stops Story, the story just dragged.I got the impression that the writer thinks the readers are not intelligent. After all, in the first scene of the story, it is revealed that the hero has access to all possible powers. So it was excruciating to wait around for the entire book, to actually finally get to see the hero start tapping into them.Ok. I did manage to find some enjoyment from the occasional moments, when he tapped into a new power. But the way it was done was also 'not fun'. No one would explain the powers. No would would tell what the next steps were. No would would share how to advance safely. Yet everyone was quick to call him an idiot, for screwing things up, when he did try things out.As to magic systems. This one felt like a knock-off of the Mystborn series. Only instead of ingesting metal, you consume stone. So, that wasnt too creative, structurally. But the writer still did a decent job of making it somewhat workable. Though, the magic system was too complex, or not explained well enough. there was primary, secondary, tertiary powers. And every combination of those. Which meant there there were too many types of superheroes to keep track of. I felt like I was drowning in terminology. Which is saying something, because I like terminology. It think part of the problem is that the types werent explained well enough. The story would be puttering along, then suddenly someone would appear, and someone would say, "thats a logjammer!", and then no one would explain what that meant.Then there was the 'love interests'. In general, the audience seeks to find the most eligible pair, and match them up. So its the writers job to make sure that the characters are designed right, so that we know who is going to be with who. whom? But in this story, there were at least 5 woman that kept turning the heroes head. And they were all strong women, and all interested in the hero. And he liked them all. Again. It was hard to know who to root for. And the hero just came across as wishy-wash. Didnt know what he liked, or what he should do.Was the writing any good? it was competant. I could follow along from one scene to the next. The pacing was consistent, though way too slow for me, because the plot points were few and far between. The dialogue was below average. No one ever really said anything worth listening too. It was mostly, just "your a bumbler", "we cant tell you that", "its none of your business", "children should be seen and not heard". But since the reader never knew more than the hero, it felt like the writer was saying all those things straight at the reader.Ok. So in summary. I guess I should say, that I respect the writer for trying to tell something 'epic'. And it was a respectable effort - definitely. Though he failed to pull it off. So, will I read another book by this writer? Maybe. Reluctantly. But not right away. Maybe after he has written 3 or 4 more books, and has learned how to design his stories and characters better.But now that I am thinking about, I might have to change my answer to 'no'. Because this writer likes to:- Pull the reader around by the nose- Mislead the reader- Create characters that lie to the reader- keep the reader in the dark.etc. So his M.O. is not a style that I appreciate.

The main character was annoying, he kept bumbling from one crisis to another. And kept on falling for the same tricks over and over. He is in combat with a pretty girl, she smiles at him, he smiles back... she hits him in the face. Seriously how many times can this keep happening. I gave this book 2 stars instead of one because the author does get you to emotionally invest in the protagonist however that just makes his continuous incompetence all the more difficult to swallow.

Also, this book has one of my favorite covers ever — it is so pretty!Opening Sentence: Once upon a time— nine years ago, to be exact— I didn’t know anything about the Family Business.The Review:Penelope Landlow has grown up in a very privileged environment. Her family is extremely wealthy, but they don’t get their money legally. They sell human organs to those that need them and can afford to pay for them. Rest assured they are actually good people and they do it more to help people then for the money, but it is still illegal. But even all the money in the world can’t cure the autoimmune disease that Penelope has. It causes her blood palettes to run way lower than they should and therefore she bruises very easily. Her disease can be very dangerous, so she is basically homebound at all times.Penelope would love to be a normal girl, but that’s just not in her cards. Sure she loves her family and she knows that they would do anything to protect her but she wants more out of life then just being a princess stuck in a mansion. What Penelope doesn’t know is that she is about to get her wish of freedom, but what will be the price?Penelope is such an inspirational character. She has a terrible disease that makes it so she bruises very easily and her blood has a hard time clotting. It’s scary and at any time it could become very deadly. But Penelope has such a positive outlook on life that you would never know she is so ill. Yes, she is cautious and she should be, but at the same time she likes to be spontaneous. Sure she fantasies about living a normal teenage life, but she is also happy with the life she has. She is determined to not let her disease be who she is, and I really respected that about her. She was a very easy character to connect with and with everything she goes through I couldn’t help but respect her. I loved reading her story and I am so happy that there will be more books to come.There are two love interests in the story, but the romances felt very separate from each other so while reading the story it didn’t really feel like a love triangle to me. I do think that in the future books there is a possibility that the love triangle could become more forefront, but it wasn’t in this one.I couldn’t help but fall in love with Garrett. He is loyal, kind, and fiercely protective of Penelope. His family has protected the Landlow family for years so it’s no surprise that is what he wants to do as well. His best friend growing up was Carter Landlow and they are more like brothers then friends. His relationship with Penelope has been strictly friendly all these years, but they have an undeniable chemistry. I loved watching them flirt and I thought they were so cute together. Garrett is far from perfect, but if I had to choose a team I would chose him!Char comes along quite a bit later in the story and while I did really like him, I didn’t quite fall for him as much as I did for Garrett. Char is ridiculously smart and a total nerd, which was really cute. He is awkward and unsure of himself when it comes to Penelope, but that added to his overall charm. The relationship between him and Penelope was cute. It just felt a little rushed to me. Unfortunately, it had a insta-love feel to it and I didn’t love that, but I do think that things could be much different in the next book. I adore Char, I just don’t know if I would pick him for Penelope.Hold Me Like a Breath is a beautifully heart pounding story that is almost impossible to put down. The idea is very unique and different from anything else I have ever read, so that was a huge plus. The pacing was spot on and the plot took me places I was never expecting to go. There is a mystery in the story that I did figure out, but it wasn’t obvious or overdone in anyway. There was just enough foreshadowing that made it so you didn’t feel lost or confused as to what was going on. The characters were all developed perfectly and I loved how three dimensional they all felt. While reading the story I could easily imagine myself in the moment with all the characters and I really loved that. Schmidt’s writing is beautiful and easy to get lost in. This is the first book I have read by her, but rest assured I now want to go back and read everything else she has written. The ending of this book wrapped up things pretty well, so I am really curious to see where things go in the sequel. 2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. Hold Me Like a Breath By Hannah @ Paperback Treasures Hold Me Like a Breath sounded like such an intriguing read. The title and the cover are gorgeous, and an organ transplant black market is such a unique and fascinating take on the crime family story. But sadly, I didn't end up loving Hold Me Like a Breath as much I was hoping I would - it was a pretty slow and frustrating read for me.I did love the organ-transplant element of the novel. It's interesting how the whole business is illegal, but the Family sees themselves as doing something morally right by providing transplants for people the government doesn't deem 'worthy' because of disabilities, etc. But of course, only people with money have access to this, considering how obscenely rich Penny's family is as a result of this business. Different members of the Family have different opinions on the proposed laws that would legalize selling one's organs and how that would affect the Family's business, which was especially interesting within the context of other illegal businesses that are being legalized... It's a complex issue, and Hold Me Like a Breath treats it as such making this a very thought-provoking element of the story. The whole thing didn't even read like contemporary at times; with these made-up laws and a world I know nothing about, Hold Me Like a Breath felt kind of like a sci-fi novel, and I really loved its fascinatingly unique worldbuilding.But even though I loved this setup, the rest of the story didn't really work for me. I had some issues with our main character Penny. I loved reading about the details of her autoimmune disorder and how that affects her day-to-day life, but that's about the only unique thing about this character. Penny is ridiculously naive, and I understand that that makes sense, considering her sheltered upbringing, but she also acts like a whiny, spoiled brat for most of the novel. I usually hate when people base their opinion on a book on whether or not they liked the main character, but Penny was just so annoying and frustrating to read about that I could not get myself to care about the outcome of her story. She does undergo a transformation over the course of the novel and learns to fight for herself, but I was just too annoyed at that point to really notice. She still acts pretty naive, trusting and helpless even when she's living by herself, and her failure to do anything other than wait around for someone to save her for 90% of the novel frustrated me to no end.There's two elements to this story: the thriller side, meaning Penny trying to hide and then protect herself and others from the mysterious bad guys; and the emotional side of Penny processing the tragedy that struck her Family. The thriller element in the beginning is pretty weak, considering that nothing really happens for the first three-quarters of the novel; Penny doesn't do anything, she just sits around waiting for something to happen. And at the end, when we do get more action, it just got kind of unrealistic for me - there are so many elements to this thriller that don't make sense. I can't really go into this without spoiling this, but I'll just say that none of the characters really had any motivations that would justify their actions, and there's some serious plotholes in how Penny got to where she is now. As for the emotional side, the writing and the characters just weren't strong enough to make me feel anything.And then there's the romance, which, of course, had to include a love triangle and some insta-love. At first I liked Garrett, the childhood friend Penny has been in love with forever, but I didn't get too strong of a connection between him and Penny, and once Char shows up, Penny just kind of forgets about him. The relationship with Char was too insta-love-y for me - they're both suddenly obsessed with each other, and Penny isn't creeped out when Char follows her and stakes out outside the apartment where she's hiding. Again, I didn't feel a real connection; for that whole part of the novel, nothing much really happens. When Penny has to choose between Garrett and Char, the resolution is made way too easy, and she doesn't even consider the other side for reasons that didn't make sense to me.Hold Me Like a Breath was worth the read only because of the original ideas of the organ-transplant black market and the autoimmune disorder; this was an interesting world to gain insights to. But the execution left much to be desired: with a frustrating main character, a predictable thriller storyline with significant plotholes, a weak emotional element and a predictable romance, none of it really worked for me. I might pick up another book by Tiffany Schmidt because I did enjoy her debut, Send Me a Sign, but I'm not going to be continuing with this series.

Accurate and Educational By Michelle Pouliot As a physical therapist that treats children with bowel and bladder incontinence, as well as constipation and other conditions I have found this book to be very helpful and valuable. There are no other books that I have found yet that provide the content that this book offers, as well as being appropriate for a wider range of ages. The information that is presented is not only accurate and evidenced based, but it is explained in a way that kids can relate to and understand. It is also nice that the information is presented at a level that both younger kids can learn form but older kids are not bored with or turned off from. So far my favorite page that I keep referring back to with the kids is the one with the stretched out T-shirt picture resembling the rectum. It is helping kids and parents understand the implications of getting stretched out and why things can take time to improve. Some of the pages in this book have a large amount of information so I actually find it helpful to read the pages slowly and stop and explain or talk about each different piece on the page. I tend to point out certain points or pictures on each page and relate them to the child and their problem which makes the pages less overwhelming and allows me to use this book as a good teaching tool. This book addresses topics that are not well understood and serves a very underserved population and for that reason alone having a trust worthy source of information is very helpful.

A great help to my 6 y.o. daughter By Dee54 I'm grateful to have found this after so much frustration, anxiety, and misery dealing with my 6-year-old daughter's bedwetting. I first learned about the book on Dr. Laura Markham's FB page (she is my parenting guru). Then I heard her interview with Dr. Hodges, which was eye-opening. I finally put the pieces of the puzzle together and realized my daughter's issue was probably due to constipation. I immediately ordered the book and had it in hand when an x-ray at the pediatrician confirmed it. I feel lucky our doctor was on board with the x-ray and took me seriously. We did a laxative clean-out and it was so great for my daughter to have this book during the process. It took away so much of her fear and embarrassment, and it made her feel like, well, as the title says, it wasn't her fault! She also got a real kick out of Dr. Pooper -- what kid wouldn't love that name? -- and the bunny rabbit. She has had her first dry nights ever and wants to go on her first sleepover. BTW, the poop chart at the end of the book is in our bathroom now and is a really good resource.

It's so new that it still smelled like printing ink when we got it!If you're not familiar with the It's No Accident book, then this children's companion book it's going to sound really weird to you. It would still be helpful to children and adults unfamiliar with main book, but it's not a typical children's potty training book. So know that before you buy.We are working with our pediatrician and following the It's No Accident book protocol, so this children's book has been very helpful to our three and a half year old. He likes this book and wants to read it every day, often while he's on the toilet :)As the person reading the book, it can be a little confusing to know when to read which parts because there is the main text, LOTS of character thought bubbles, signs, etc. It takes a few reads to find your stride. But it's more of a free form read, and for young children who like books to be predictable this can be confusing, because different people will read it different ways. And honestly we skip over some stuff that doesn't apply to us (like the page spread on enemas) and add some dialog on stuff that that does apply to us.I wish this book had focused a little more on not "holding" and going to the potty RIGHT when you feel pressure. Don't get me wrong, it does talk about this, I just wish it would have focused on it a little more.Overall it's a good book and delivers a lot of information in an easy to understand way. In fact, it's such a good "Cliff's Notes" on the main book that it's a great read for peripheral caregivers like grandparents, babysitters, and spouses who never finished the main book!

My son loves these kinds of books and he encouraged me to download this book. I loved the style and diction. The plot of the story progresses in the most professional manner. This book offers parents a very practical, achievable, customizable, and biblical approach to guiding their pre-teens through eight developmental areas (academic, domestic, emotional, financial, physical, sexual, social, and spiritual) as they enter their adolescent years. While it was written by a father of three boys from a dad's perspective, the principles shared in this book could easily be modified to achieve the same developmental goals with daughters.Gus's writing style is very warm and approachable. His examples will have you laughing one minute and welling up with tears the next. While reading this book, I never felt like I was being "preached" to, but rather that I was sitting around a dining table with a good friend and discussing the parenting journey.While the book digs into eight different developmental areas, it never feels overwhelming. The chapters are concise and, in many cases, the suggested activities are things you are probably already doing with your children anyway. The difference is in the purposefulness of the activity, and Gus guides you in ways to make the moments count. Amlee I assumed that when I came to teenage parenting that the "instructions" would arrive just in time to "cross that bridge when it comes." It did not, and it was not "easy."What I have discovered is that experience and wisdom often appear at the end of the bridge and not the outset of the crossing. This book is the answer both in direction and wisdom packed into very simple to execute process. The best part of the book is that it has been applied, tested, and realized. Thank you Bromans for hearing God's call to write this book.

I was totally in the story, I was part of it and I could feel as it happened to me. The fact that I also stayed at the same place in the desert and that I know some of the people personally made this story much more wonderful to me!Its always special to me if a writer opens his or her heart to the reader and shares thoughts abt life, honestly and authentically. I am thankful to have read this book and can only recommend to anyone to take some time, make a nice cup of tea and enjoy this true lovestory! :)

Each reading has taken me on an adventure full of profound emotions, from fear and frustration to faith and perseverance. By Stephanie Ward 'Free to Fall' is a thrilling and unique young adult dystopian novel that will definitely have readers begging for more. The story follows our teenage heroine, Rory Vaughn, as she lives a normal teenage life in a future world. Not much has changed - technology is huge, everyone is attached to their tablets and phones - posting to the Forum, which is basically like Twitter. There are some awesome new technologies - like holographic wallpaper that you can change and an app - Lux - that basically tells you what to do in every situation you encounter, based on the optimal results. Everyone trusts Lux for decisions, including Rory, until she is accepted into the prestigious Theden Academy. Rory begins to notice strange things that don't add up and that might have something to do with her dead mother. She also meets North - a guy who is offline from Lux and the other new technologies - who challenges her to trust her own instincts rather than an app. What Rory and North discover changes everything they thought they knew about their world as long as some other truths that might have been better left hidden.I loved this book - every aspect of it. The dystopian future described in the story is eerily similar to our own - which makes it feel like it could really happen, which is even creepier (except for some of the cool technology). The characters were interesting and well rounded, especially Rory and North. Rory was a great main character who started out like everyone else - basically a sheep of society - but gradually broke apart and saw things for what they were. Her characters definitely matures and grows throughout the story and she shows great personality traits like intelligence, determination, and perseverance. North was a great complement to Rory's character - he was able to break through what society had trained her to believe and to trust in herself and her instincts. I liked watching their interactions grow into friendship and beyond. The plot was fantastic - like I mentioned, the story isn't so far-fetched that it's unbelievable like some dystopians. This feels like it could actually happen in the not so distant future. I think that aspect made it all the more intense for me - it made me stop and think about our own society. The story was fast paced and had a natural flow that sucked me right in from the beginning. The author's writing style was superb - she was able to capture the characters and this strange future in a way that felt like I was there myself throughout the story. I loved reading about the differences in our cultures - like I mentioned, there's some seriously cool technology in there. I can't say enough good things about this book. It has something for everyone - action, science fiction, adventure, thriller, mystery, romance, dystopian - it seriously breaks genre labels. I highly recommend this book to fans of science fiction and dystopias, as well as those who want a fantastic read that makes you step back and think about our own society.Disclosure: I received a copy of the book in exchange for an honest review.

If a book made you think, its done its job.This book really made me think about a time when I didn't have a phone when everyone else didn't (back in middle school), I thought I was missing something, but I realized after all I didn't need it. I like handwritten notes than text. I mean I actually feel for my sister There was a scene when Rory was with her best friend, Beck that everyone was looking down at their phones rather than looking at the beautiful sight around them. You see it everyday, people have a better relationship with their phones than relationship with their family and friends. How sad is that? Truthfully be told, technology makes us lazy.Set in the near future, Rory lives in a world that makes your decisions based on a sole app. It decides what you eat, where you go. It thinks for you, they clamor for the app that is their lifeline. What happens when that lifeline is threatened? This book captured me with its layers upon layers of the story, reaching me with the aura of mystery, subtle, but sweet romance. The characters were on a whole different level, you see Rory blossom into a girl who was just like the world depending on Lux to make her decision to a girl who could care less about consulting an app to make a decision for herself and feeling free.This book captured me with each twist and turn of reading Rory's development. With each new secret, betrayal and conspiracy made me fingers whip to read the next sentence. My advice go into this without very little knowledge.

Free to Fall By Angie I was very, very excited to read Free To Fall after falling in love with Parallel, and I'm happy to say that I loved it too, although not as much. It's the near future and Gnosis has taken over as the lead technological company. Nearly every person has a Gemini with the Lux app installed. Lux is meant to make life much simpler and run smoother by making decisions for you. Don't know what you want for breakfast? Ask Lux! Not sure if you have time to do whatever? Ask Lux! Should you go out with that hot guy in your math class? Ask Lux! It'll lead you down the path of happiness...or conformity. Rory gladly uses Lux, although she's not as obsessed as others. It's not until she's accepted into a prestigious school that she learns that Lux isn't really the awesome program she thinks it is.Free to Fall was quite great! I love the idea of an app that makes decisions for you, but what I loved more was that it didn't go over into cheesy mind control territory. You still had to consciously decide to ask Lux for advice, and then still decide whether to follow it or not. I'll admit, that I probably would use Lux a lot. It's so much easier to just have someone who knows more than you tell you want to do, while knowing they have your best interests in mind (or so you think). And it's all too easy to imagine something like this actually happening. We're all so plugged in all the time, constantly checking our phones and using apps for everything.The plot of Free to Fall is very National Treasure meets the Garden of Eden. There's a lot of talk about free will and making decisions for yourself but also their effects on those around you. Plus there's a great conspiracy surrounding a school, technology, and pharmaceuticals! And a secret society! And a murder mystery! And solar flares! Yeah. There's a lot going on, maybe a bit too much, but it all fits together nicely so I thought it worked for the most part. I can definitely say I was never bored.There are a few inconsistencies and lingering questions that bothered me in Free to Fall. The two inconsistencies aren't huge, but once I notice these things I can't unread them! The first was that Rory's shoes change between scenes without her ever changing them, and the second was that a major character is introduced as having "deep-set green eyes" and then having black eyes every other time she's mentioned. And her eyes are mentioned a lot. As for the lingering questions, Rory learns something about the circumstances surrounding her birth and I just couldn't wrap my head around it. The reason for it made sense, until later in the book when that reason is completely void, which brought me back to how this circumstance was even possible or why it was done. I know this is incredibly vague, but this information was a kind of turning point in the story. It really nagged at me!I really enjoyed Free to Fall despite those few issues. It's thought provoking, has a good amount of action, and a bit of romance. All things that I love. I do wish things hadn't become quite so convoluted, since I thought it was going pretty well without all of the twists thrown in.
