After coming back from death as Reboots and being trained by HARC as soldiers, Wren and Callum have finally escaped north, where they hope to find a life of freedom. But when they arrive at the Reboot reservation, it isn't what they expected. Under the rule of a bloodthirsty leader, Micah, the Reboots are about to wage an all-out war on the humans. Although Wren's instincts are telling her to set off into the wilderness and leave the battle far behind, Callum is unwilling to let his human family be murdered. When Micah commits the ultimate betrayal, the choice is made for them. But Micah has also made a fatal mistake—he's underestimated Wren and Callum.
The explosive finale to the Reboot duology is full of riveting action and steamy love scenes as Wren and Callum become rebels against their own kind.

From School Library Journal Gr 8 Up—The cliff-hanger ending of Reboot (HarperCollins, 2013) almost guaranteed that readers would be treated to a continuation of the story of Wren 178 and Callum 22. In the first book, readers discovered that a horrific virus known as KDH caused some people to rise from the dead—but only those who are young and strong. They are known as Reboots, and they have been trained and used by HARC (Human Advancement and Repopulation Corporation) as soldiers against a devastated civilian population in the name of national security. As this book opens, several Reboots, led by Wren and Callum, have escaped their HARC enclosure in search of free Reboots, reported to be hiding in the north, in the hopes of joining them and successfully overthrowing HARC. Unfortunately, they are unaware that their mission will take them into even greater danger at the hands of those who should have been their allies. Action-packed scenes, graphic violence, and a developing love story between the lead characters in a postapocalyptic world will appeal to teens who appreciate the genre made popular by Suzanne Collins's The Hunger Games.—Jane Henriksen Baird, Anchorage Public Library, AK
From Booklist Wren and Callum have escaped from HARC, which uses children risen from the dead—aka “reboots”—to police a postapocalyptic Texas. But the Reboot Reservation is a place of secrets, and they must choose between freedom and fighting for the lives of both reboots and humans. This is the rare sequel, after Reboot (2013), that is better than the original, as Wren’s emotionlessness and Callum’s pacifism occasionally put them at odds, despite their feelings for each other. The dual narration lets readers into the characters’ heads, while plenty of action keeps the story moving, and a solid ending ties up most loose ends. Grades 8-11. --Snow Wildsmith

Amy Tintera has done it again, and she has manged to surpass REBOOT on so many levels! And that's hard to imagine, as much as I LOVEDDDDDD REBOOT when I read it last year! I can happily say, REBEL has come out on top in the duology, and become one of my favorites for 2014!In REBEL we had so much growth in the main character Wren. In the first book REBOOT, Wren was a cold blooded killer. Really, she killed without question and without remorse. But it's totally understandable why and how Wren was able to be so cold in REBOOT. But in REBEL, Callum, the other main character in REBEL and also Wren's love interest, has succeed in melting the ice around Wren's heart, and allowed her to feel again. And in REBEL she doesn't have as many feelings as humans do or even as some of the lesser number Reboots do, but they were definitely there. And it was nice to see a more compassionate Wren, but still have this hard-edged, strong, take no crap type of gal. And in both books Wren was awesome, but I think I liked her a little it more in REBEL as she showed some feelings!THE PLOT...REBEL picks up right where REBOOT left off. Wren & Addie has succeed in saving Callum from becoming a flesh craving monster that he was becoming in the first book, REBOOT! And in the process they've manged to save all the Reboots in the Austin HARC facility. This is where REBEL picks back up!They've made it! They're finally free from the clutches of the power-hungry HARC (Human Advancement and Repopulation Corporation.) And have well over 100 Reboots with them all looking to Wren for direction on which way to go and what to do next! They've heard talk about a Reboot Reservation, and are relieved when they arrive to find it true! Finally they can live in freedom, without fear of the humans claiming control of their lives. Until... Micah, the deranged leader of the Reboot Reservation is ready to take a stand against the HARC. But it's not just the HARC he wants to strike! It's ALL humans! He wants to rid the world of the lesser of the 2 races, and allow the evolved Reboots to become the worlds new dictators.Micah's insane and has a thirst for human blood. Wren 178, doesn't know what to feel about this as she is just starting to get in touch with her feelings. But Callum 22, is very much in tune with his feelings and can not allow this to happen! He has faith that the humans want to be rid the HARC as much as the Reboots do and are willing to help them. As they have proved it by helping the Reboots save Callum and free the Austin Reboots. But not everyone is willing to side with saving the humans like he is...including Wren!In this fast-paced, action-packed, second book in this EPIC duology, Wren & Callum must battle their own wars to see if their fighting for the same cause. But there is one thing Wren is willing to fight for and that's Callum, so what's a girl to do when the one you love is fighting for something your not sure you believe in? And what about all that bloodshed that is the inevitable? What side will triumph and what side will Succumb? Will the Reboots find it in their cold emotionless hearts to save the humans who hasn't done much to save them? And what about the HARC? There not going down without a battle that will kill hundreds on both sides? And Micah, what's he to do if some of the Reboots side with saving the humans? It's all coming to a head and it's going to pop, but what side will come out on top no body knows. War is raging and battles will be fought, lives will be lost, but one side will change their world forever...One way or another!!!This book has truly touched my heart and made it's way to my favorites shelf where it will stay for years to come! Amy Tintera is an amazing writer, and she has rocked this series and I'm so sad to see it go, but I'm anxious to see what's in store for her coming books, because I will definitely be reading ANYTHING this woman writes!NOTE: I received an ARC for review through Around The World Tours. All opinions expressed are my own and are not influenced in any way!

Unique plot and quite a bit of action. Second book I just could NOT finish. There is just not enough action. The plot stalls out pretty fast once they get to a certain point on where they are headed. And the romance takes over completely over everything else in this book. In my opinion it is the main topic between Wren and Callum and not much else is going on. I listened to the audio and just had to turn it off with just a few chapters to go. I couldn't stomach anymore and I didn't care how it ended by then. Wren was tough in the first book and in Rebel, she is just looking for her next kiss and to hold his hand. If you want to read the next book in the series, you should consider getting this from the library (sorry Amazon) - because I don't think this one to re-read over and over.

Wren and Callum lead a group of Austin reboots into the Reboot reservation north of Austin. They expected a peaceful life now that they are away from HARC. However, the reboots in the reservation had different ideas. Led by Micah, the reboots in the reservation plans to attack humans for their enslavement of the reboots. While I admired Wren’s decisiveness in the first book, she was different in this one. There were a lot more internal conflicts within Wren. She didn’t want to help the reboots attack humans. All she wanted was to live away from humans with Callum peacefully. However, her situation, and her reboot number, basically makes that impossible. I liked that Wren didn’t immediately jump into the fray. She wasn’t for either camp, attacking or helping. The author also made Wren’s hesitations believable. She didn’t have a great human life, so she didn’t like humans, but she knew killing innocents was wrong. While I liked Wren’s reservation, it dragged down the book’s pacing at times. This book also had sections told in Callum’s point of view. I’m glad to see that Callum became useful in this one, and not just shown as weak as in the previous book. He really grew up in this one. Unlike Wren, Callum couldn’t just stand around and do nothing while knowing that Micah and the reboots plan to attack Austin. He acted on what he believed was right, and took the leadership role. Also, it was interesting to see him interact with Wren. There were just so many things he hadn’t known about Wren. After he learned more things about Wren’s life, he became more understanding and empathic toward Wrens’ feelings, and I really liked that about him.Overall, this is a great ending to the two-book series. Tintera’s writing was fast and on point and the story easily flowed from one section to another. The characters were likeable and relatable. I look forward to reading more from Tintera in the future.
