Then, when trying to level up, he manages to cut off the elixir ley line to the entire town. This wouldn’t be such a big issue if it wasn’t for those darn Goblins. Without the elixir ley line, his town has no hope of healing. Follow Skulk on a journey from being just another wimpy Barbarian to, what he hopes, will turn him into the town hero. Will he find the cause of the ley line meltdown? Will he escape the Goblins? Who is the mysterious archer? Based on the popular game, Clash of Clans, these characters take their cue from recognizable game characters. Stepping it up a notch, this story will take you into the world of Clash of Clans like you’ve never been before. Entertaining, funny, and exciting join Skulk as he goes from wimpy to hero.

Comments From Other Readers

“I like this book because everything is like “Diary of a Wimpy Kid” just with a barbarian. I personally think that's cool. What I also think is cool is when you find out that Skulk has a wall breaker friend. I think it’s cool that he had friends other than the barbarians. It was pretty funny. I really liked the book.” - Kevin (age 10) (Washington, US) “My son loves Clash of Clans. He is in 2nd grade but reads at a 5th grade level. He was so excited to get the book. He read it in 2 days. He then proceeded to tell me all about the book! I’m happy to get him books that keep him interested in reading. Stories like this are entertaining enough to keep his interest, but short enough to not lose him.” - Cindy (Alabama, US) “My son was very excited about getting this book. He loves Clash of Clans and I love the fact that he wants to READ! To be able to find books that interest him and inspire him to read is an amazing thing!” – Trevor (Toronto, Canada)

The perfect book for today's young readers By Rachel Horon Reluctant readers will pick books that interests them rather than enjoy the books picked for them. With Minecraft- themed books by Two Little Cowboys, these reader like my son have a new type of book they can read anytime.Skulk is a wimpy monster. All he wants to do is find a way to level up and prove he is as good, if not better than everyone's expectations. When everything goes wrong, and he is chased by every possible group in and around the village, you can only get worse for him. Even the enemy doesn't know how to respond at first. In the end, Skulk reaches his neighbors and tries to save the village. Is it enough to make him into a hero? You have to read to find out. It has hilarious dialog, and not every reader will understand all of the references toward the end. No matter what, it is an enjoyable read!

A unique blend of the beloved Diary of a Wimpy Kid stories, as well as Clash of Clans, the Diary of a Wimpy Barbarian is an obvious, yet ingenious combination of franchises. Skulk and the gang give life and narrative to the stories of Clash of Clans, something fans of the game will appreciate immensely. Witty and relatable, I breezed through the story and can’t wait to read future installments of Skulk’s story. This installment leaves the reader wondering what will come next, wondering just how far Skulk will level up, and what conspiracies he will uncover next.

3 of 3 people found the following review helpful. Level up for Skulk! By Dulce Amor Bravo Very entertaining, the book is full of adventure and interesting characters. I find Skulk very amusing because I just can't believe someone is that much of a coward. But even though Skulk thinks of himself as a wimp, he still didn't give up on trying to fix the problems he had caused to the village. His perseverance and determination to make things right made him a hero in the end. Interesting turn of events, never would have thought that Bob the Builder is the villain. Kids will learn a lot from this book and will have fun reading it.

At first it was just one guy, but when someone new drove me home, whistling and saying, "Damn, girl, you're hot," I knew what I was becoming, what I was doing. I was going to let anyone have me until someone wanted me for more. But then I found out I was pregnant. And I hoped everything would change. Hope. The word carries so much. Because what if it doesn't work out or show up and come through? But what if it does?

7 of 7 people found the following review helpful. This book is amazing, raw By Shana Dines This book is amazing, raw, emotional and real. Trix has been raised, and I use that term loosely, by an alcoholic mother. They have been homeless, lived in motels and her mother has had numerous boyfriends and has prostituted herself out. Trixie has no idea what a normal family is. She finds love in the only way she knows how with boys that only use her. She doesn't know who her father is and wants badly to know what she comes from. She finds out that her father is Mexican and fantasizes about the family she doesn't know. When she finds out she is pregnant she turns her life around with the guidance of an Art teacher who truly cares for her and wants her to know her value. It is heartbreakingly real, beautiful and hopeful. I won't tell you want else happens because I don't want to spoil it for you. It makes it more understandable why it is so hard for kids who come from such a background, not to know any other way than what they learned without help and hope. Anya is a wonderful writer.

6 of 6 people found the following review helpful. Heartwarming, yet Heartwrenching By SaraC This Too Is Love hits so close to home in the subject it raises. The book hits on teen pregnancy, dysfunctional families, acting out, loss and finding yourself.Trixie has lived a rough live, her family is dysfunctional to the max, her mother anything but a mother, her aunt and cousin just as dysfunctional, yet still better than the reality she's been living. Determined to start over and find the love she's been craving, she starts giving herself to anyone who wants a part of her, only to end up facing the consequences.Ricky was a everything a you'd expect an unexpected teen dad would be, yet more. He had so much more to offer Trixie, cared about her for who she was, not what she gave him. He valued her, filled a void for her. He showed her what she could have.I think the best part of this entire story is the role of Mrs Carter and Julia and David. They provided Trixie with all the love she ever was denied. Gave her warmth and love, caring and concern, self respect and everything a parent, biological or otherwise should provide their child. This story had so many heartwarming moments and just as many heartbreaking moments. I could so easily connect to Julia and David and their struggle to conceive. I can also relate to their desire to foster a relationship with Trixie. This book was outside my typical genre, but I am so glad that I ventured to read it. It impacted me on such a deep level, it is worth reading no matter what genre you prefer. You can't go wrong with this emotional read!

4 of 4 people found the following review helpful. This too is Love By Crystal Yawn This is an enjoyable young adult book. I won't call it a romance, my genre of choice, because it's more about growing pains than a romance.Trixie has a hard life that just gets harder. though her actions are not desirable I think they show a good picture of a young lady who is just looking for one person to love, or even care, about her. The emotional rollercoaster and what this teenager experiences is very sad. but the story pulls you in so you can't stop reading. The time line at the beginning is a bit confusing and left me scratching my head a few times hanging on. I also felt like the ending missed its mark, not that it was bad, just that it could have been more complete.the story contains lots of teenage situations, pregnancy, sex, drinking, drugs, adoption etc. it would not be for everyone

That is right. Human trafficking. When that didn't work out, a snafu occurred and the author left one of her babies in Mexico for a prolonged period of time. There are lots of reputable sources on surrogacy, and lots of reputable sources on how to do surrogacy correctly. This isn't one of them

By Amazon Customer I received this book from a friend, I read it throughly, realizing that it is a perfect guide for the intended parents who are dreaming baby from the surrogacy, with many practical information and legal advise. As surrogacy is such a complicated process, meanwhile it is a highly profitable immature market, many agency or faciliator can suck huge amount money from the IPs, hence it is really important to understand more about the surrogacy. This book is mainly for the US IPs running surrogacy in Mexico, of course people who are seeking surrogacy in other countries can be inspired as well.

John Green's The Fault in Our Stars meets Rainbow Rowell's Eleanor & Park in this beautifully written, incredibly honest, and emotionally poignant novel. Cammie McGovern's insightful young adult debut is a heartfelt and heartbreaking story about how we can all feel lost until we find someone who loves us because of our faults, not in spite of them.

Born with cerebral palsy, Amy can't walk without a walker, talk without a voice box, or even fully control her facial expressions. Plagued by obsessive-compulsive disorder, Matthew is consumed with repeated thoughts, neurotic rituals, and crippling fear. Both in desperate need of someone to help them reach out to the world, Amy and Matthew are more alike than either ever realized.

When Amy decides to hire student aides to help her in her senior year at Coral Hills High School, these two teens are thrust into each other's lives. As they begin to spend time with each other, what started as a blossoming friendship eventually grows into something neither expected.

Say What You Will, by Cammie McGovern

Amazon.com Review Q&A with Cammie McGovern

Curtis Sittenfeld is the bestselling author of American Wife, The Man of My Dreams, and Prep. Recently, she sat down with fellow author Cammie McGovern to chat about Cammie’s debut YA novel, Say What You Will. Read the resulting interview below.

Curtis: You've written several well-received novels for adults. Did you consciously decide to shift to writing a YA novel, or did you write the novel you wanted to write and it turned out to be YA?

Cammie: It’s impossible to be a parent, reading aloud to young kids and later on, sharing books with your teens, and not be tempted to try your hand at writing it yourself. That said, SAY WHAT YOU WILL originally started out as an adult mystery. Amy was much the same: a highly intelligent, very disabled young woman who disappears a few weeks after her graduation from Stanford. The problem was: it never worked. The only part I liked was a relatively small subplot where one of her helpers—Matthew—talks about the year they spent together in high school and how he felt like Amy was the best friend he’d ever made. For no reason that I planned, he was her only helper who hadn’t gone to college and was far less successful than the others, but—somehow—he was the most appealing thing in the book.

So I started over and wrote a bunch of new scenes with Amy and Matthew back in high school. Talking honestly. Getting to know each other. Once I picked this path, it clicked into place quickly and I wrote the book in about eight months. I tell this story because I so appreciate when writers admit how LONG it takes them to find a story that works. It’s an arduous process that only looks easy after you’ve finished the book. I also have to add, very happily, that I’ve fallen in love with YA and now have no plans to write anything else!

Curtis: Along the same lines, did you specifically want to write about characters with disabilities? Did you intend to overturn certain stereotypes (for instance, that being disabled makes one uninterested in sex)?

Cammie: I’m interested in writing about characters with disabilities, in part, because I live with one (my eighteen-year-old son, Ethan, has autism) and partly because the smartest thing I did after he was diagnosed was help start an organization called Whole Children that runs recreational programs for kids, teens, and young adults with disabilities. In the last two decades, the lives of kids with disabilities have changed dramatically. Thanks to mainstreaming, the majority are attending public schools with supports in place and aides to facilitate. What this means—I think—is that today’s typically-developing kids are more aware of people with disabilities than their parents were, but they don’t necessarily know them any better. I suspect much of the time, the kid with the disability is still a mysterious presence in the back of the classroom with an adult aide by their side and a very few kid-friends. I wanted Matthew to be like I would have been: fascinated by that person, and scared of her, too.

The other staggering change for teenagers with disabilities is that there are so many more of them now. According to the 2012 US Government Disability Statistics, there are over 1.2 million teenagers between the ages of 16-20 who identify themselves as living with a disability severe enough to affect their future independence. Over a million! This is the largest minority group in America and, I’d have to wager, the most underrepresented in books, movies, TV shows, and popular culture. I’d love to see that change in the coming years.

Now that I’ve gotten to know MANY teens with disabilities, I’d have to say, yes, they defy all stereotypes, including one of the biggest ones: That they aren’t interested in relationships and sex. The more I’ve read on the subject, the more I realize, with educated, supportive assistance, the happiness factor goes up exponentially when teens with disabilities have loving, supportive friendships of all kinds. This is what Amy intuits so much better than her mother and why she fights so hard to establish a real relationship with Matthew.

Curtis: Your sister is the actress Elizabeth McGovern, who's currently starring as Cora Crawley in Downton Abbey. What kind of home did you grow up in that turned out two successful artists?

Cammie: We grew up—along with our older brother, Monty, who is a math professor at University of Washington—as the children of two teachers (our father was a law school professor, our mother a high school English teacher). Our house was full of books and even though I was a secret TV addict as a child and not a particularly voracious reader, the effect was still the same—books, and the conversations they inspired, were valued above everything else. My sister was an early inspiration because she was bold and self-confident about wanting to be an actress at a very young age, even when our parents were frantically steering her in other, more practical directions. She was also very kind about my writing before I had any discernible talent, mostly because I don’t think she liked standing alone in the artistic spotlight. (She might be an actress for a living but she’s a surprisingly shy one, and doesn’t relish the limelight. I’m a much more social creature than she is.) Mostly I learned from her early example that to become an artist takes a certain self-confidence—and not a showy, arrogant kind, but a quiet one lodged deep within one’s heart that this is, very simply, what you want to do. I suspect our parents, while worrying about these impractical career choices, also, in their own way, cheered them on: Our mother is a wonderful writer herself. Her letters are witty and full of warmth and finding one at the bottom of a drawer can instantly transport me back in time. Our father, in a different incarnation, should have been an actor himself, as any of his friends who were in his “Shakespearean Play Reading Group” can attest. I think they’re all still recovering from the surprise of him showing up to the first meeting dressed as King Lear complete with a towel cape and a cardboard crown.

From School Library Journal Gr 9 Up—Amy has cerebral palsy, and has spent the past 17 years with walkers, voice boxes, and adults. She's gone through school at the same pace as her peers but without friends or socializing. When one of her classmates, Matthew, challenges her cheerful facade, Amy realizes she's missed out on developing true peer relationships. So for their senior year, Amy asks her parents to pay classmates to be her companions instead of her usual adult aids. She begs Matthew to apply, and the two embark on a friendship that addresses Amy's limitations, Matthew's own disorder, and all their secrets—all except the one they really need to share. Both teens struggle with their realities and limitations, and a love soon develops between them. The harsh reality of high school social dynamics are authentically portrayed. The main characters are well developed, though secondary characters are little more than background noise. Recommend to fans of John Green's The Fault In Our Stars (Dutton, 2012) and realistic fiction with a love story angle.—Natalie Struecker, Rock Island Public Library, IL

From Booklist *Starred Review* It isn’t that words fail Amy: she has plenty to tell, and her wry and witty mind is unaffected by her cerebral palsy. Her speech, though, is incomprehensible, so a talking computer speaks for her. To move in her body, she requires a walker and a helper to assist her between classes. But she is fiercely independent, and for her senior year, she has decided that students her own age will be her school aides. Maybe that will help with the one area she has struggled to master her whole life—making real friends—as she prepares to transition to college. Matthew, stunted and isolated by his obsessive-compulsive disorder, signs on to assist Amy and inadvertently embarks on a self-improvement project that she passionately encourages. As they lean on each other and their relationship deepens, even as they each inch toward independence, Amy and Matthew test the boundaries of their self-determination and their friendship, much to the disappointment of Amy’s worried mother. Exhilarating and heartrending, McGovern’s YA debut has a similar odd-couple camaraderie as Rainbow Rowell’s Eleanor & Park (2013) and the raw exploration of disability in R. J. Palacio’s Wonder (2012). With a smart, proud, and capable protagonist eager to take her life by the reins, this novel is stunning. Grades 9-12. --Lexi Walters Wright

59 of 60 people found the following review helpful. Different from anything that I've read before! By Spiced Latte From the very beginning, I was looking forward to this book about of its premise. Although I have to say that I haven't read The Fault in Our Stars or Eleanor & Park (yes, I know it's a shame, don't judge), I put this on my tbr list as soon as I read the summary on Goodreads. Say What You Will is so different from anything that I have ever read before. In my entire life I have never read about a handicapped girl who is so brilliant to the point that I forgot about her disability & was awed at how incredible she was.Quote: “Instead of beauty, I have a face no one envies and a body no one would choose to live in. These two factors alone have freed up my days to pursue what other girls my age might also do if their strong legs weren't carrying them to dance and parties and places that feed a lot of insecurities...”I loved reading about her relationship with Matthew. They are two people that couldn't be more different and more similar at the same time. Born with cerebral palsy, Amy doesn't see herself as someone who should miss out on life just because she needs a voice box to communicate. & Matthew realizes that he has OCD which could get into a way of his friendship with Amy.Quote: “I asked if I could help you because I've never been able to do that for anyone. I wanted to see if I could. It's terrible always being the person who need help. I'm sorry if I misjudged everything. I'm so new at having friends that I make mistakes sometimes...”Books that leave me speechless are the worst to write a review for because my emotions simply can't be transferred into words. Cammie McGovern is so talented, I absolutely love her writing and the way she develops her characters. Definitely becoming one of my new favorite authors, McGovern is the author to watch for & be on the look out for new novels!

14 of 15 people found the following review helpful. An Honest and Heartbreaking YA Contemporary Novel! By Stephanie Ward 'Say What You Will' is a heartbreakingly honest look at the life of two teens who are disabled in their own ways - and how they come to realize how much they needed one another without knowing it. The two main characters in the story - Amy, who has cerebral palsy - and Matthew, who has OCD (obsessive-compulsive disorder) are both incredibly realistic in all their aspects - both good and bad. We get to see these two teens for who they are - their personalities, likes and dislikes, fears, frustrations, and how they live with their respective illnesses. I loved the honesty that the author wrote with - with both the characters, the illnesses and how it effects those with the disease and those around them, and basically teenage life in general. She shows us that just because these two are diagnosed with illnesses, they aren't very different at all from the regular teenager. The writing was beautifully done - especially the characters and their growing relationship with each other. I loved how we got to know both Amy and Matthew for their true selves and then we got to watch how their lives become entwined. This book is a definite emotional roller coaster - there were points that were funny, some that were sobering, and some that had me crying hysterically. I found it easy to slip into the world the author created within the first few paragraphs, and I didn't stop reading until I was finished - and then even after that, because it kept me thinking and feeling for quite some time afterwords. I thought the plot was original, if not completely unique, and written with a natural flow and easy pace. It seems that more and more YA contemporary books are revolving around characters who are sick in some way, but the the depth of the characters and the interesting story line made this one original and fresh. I don't do spoilers in my reviews, so I'll just say that you should prepare yourself before reading this one. As I mentioned, it took me on a ride - from laughing to crying and everything in between. Definitely recommended for fans of the genre as well as those looking for an honest and emotional young adult novel.Disclosure: I received a copy of the book in exchange for an honest review.

12 of 13 people found the following review helpful. Amazing, thoughtful, funny.....Everyone should read this book! By K. Sowa My shamefully limited knowledge of books that have main characters with disabilities really left me wanting more. I never felt connected to the characters because they seemed more like A DIAGNOSIS and less like a person. In SAY WHAT YOU WILL, Cammie McGovern wrote about two people, two funny, quirky, and lonely people, and let the reader see their friendship develop into something beautiful. In many ways, Matthew’s OCD cripples him much more than Amy’s CP limits her, and while that reversal of thinking (the girl with the physical disability is actually the least disabled) restructured my preconceived ideas about their relationship dynamic, it really wasn’t about rescuing anyone. It was about setting aside fears, limitations, and appearances, and taking a chance at opening up to another human being.Say What You Will was a wonderful illustration of the idea that we are more than the sum of our outside parts and we are more than our limitations. That sounds like such an obvious thing to know, yet I think that most people go through their day thinking that they know people based on what they see, not based on real interaction. This book didn’t just change the way I might see a person with a physical disability, it reminded me that we all struggle in one way or another. Amy and Matthew were a unique duo, sure, but also not so very unlike any other teens; they felt lonely, had insecurities, wondered about the future, wanted more from their parents, and wanted less from their parents. I can’t adequately express how this book grabbed my heart, but it did, and I guarantee you that it will grab your heart, as well. I laughed out loud, I winced, and I got a little teary while reading Say What You Will. Don’t miss out on the opportunity to expand your world by reading this book.

This graphic novel series follows the adventures of Irene and Wilbur (a ghost) as the two of them venture into a distant and dangerous land in search of Wilbur's body. Wits are challenged, friendships are tested. As always, Adam Archer's artwork is fantastic and his story is highly imaginative. There isn't a dull moment and it contains a nice twist that I didn't see coming. Recommended!

2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. I was swayed. By Patsy Collins This book was a selection in a book club I've just joined and I wasn't entirely sure if I'd like it. Not having kids myself I didn't expect to care much for a character desperate to have a girl rather than a boy. I found I did care about her though. Not so much about which sex her babies were, but about her physical and emotional health and about her relationships with her family and friends.Serious issues aree raised in the book and some terribly sad things happen, but overall this isn't a grim or depressing story. It's emotional and involving and even funny at times.

By Yoeshua DeYoung This book was amazing as I'm trying to conceive and too desire a daughter I have 3 sons this book made me realize babies are blessings boys or girls it's women suffering from all sorts of depression from gender disappointment to infertility so as I look ahead I'm grateful for the opportunity to be a mother of whatever god see for me great read!!!!

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. An open-hearted insight into the world of gender disappointment By Caroline Vincent This psychological novel gives an insight into a controversial subject, the world of gender disappointment and gender desire. Charlotte is struggling with her desire to have a daughter, envisioning a life of a close mother/daughter bonding. It is shocking to see just how far people will go to have their preferred gender baby, even so far as destroying the world around them. It is hard to empathise with Char as she embarks on yet another diet or scheme that will produce her baby girl.Lucinda Blanchard has done a marvellous job of opening up a taboo, the hidden world of gender swaying by showing us all that Charlotte is going through, including the guilt and despair. Definitely worth reading!

2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. Soulmate By Serenity I just loved Soulmate! A top must read of the year! Kellie is a kick-ass writer!Okay onto the story now....Everyone wants to find their soulmate and love happy ever after. Rachel was lucky enough to have been born with hers. Yup, she has been sharing her body with Rider, her soulmate. She has always been happy and just wants to stick by him. Even if it means straying away from people. Its all good, until people just see her as crazy and need some help. But lucky for Rachel, she is about to move. Maybe this will be the fresh start she needs. New home, new area, new people, and no one knows about her. Rachel has the chance to make new friend and even try and have a boyfriend. If it all goes well, then should could easily pull off having a life and having Rider. However, things don't go to plan.Rider and her are about to be over. Rachel needs to rebuil herself and learn to love again. Choices are made, and sadly it lead down an unexpected road. But in another way, it also needed to happen. I didn't mind Rider, he was a decent character. But I was so happy to see Rachel be herself more. Making friends, finding love, and being able to make it after Rider and her got torn apart. Its a story that will easily suck you in. Make you fall for the characters. Feel with them, and even need to bring out the tissues. A must must read and I can't wait for the next book!

2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. Cute story with a great new premise By I M Strong This book is really cute and I love the premises but I felt that the idea could have been better developed. The story is told in the third person which took a little to get used to for me. It starts with both characters in the womb and the first few chapters sets up how they came to be and how Rider made himself known to Rachel. Then eventually it jumps to when she is 15 and is moving to another city.It gets a bit predictable towards the end but I still enjoyed this book very much.I wish it had a different tone and was told with alternating POVs and I was kind of doing that in my head (which I often do with books). It was a quick read, 3 or 4 hours. There is one more in the series and this one was free on amazon at the time I got it.It does not end on a cliffhanger but it is not the end of the story. Also it is very PG13. There is some romance but it is not graphic

2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. I really liked the author's writing style By cc2015 I really liked the author's writing style, and while the concept of this book--how Rachel is born with her soulmate--isn't something totally new to me, I found the story itself to be very original and enjoyable. This is definitely a "feel good" kind of story that will draw you in and leave you wanting more when you're done (especially if you enjoy reading YA romance). I definitely recommend this book and this is a great debut novel for this author!

0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Last Issue for X-Force By S. H. Wells Collecting: X-Force (2014) #11-15The final story arc for this incarnation of X-Force grows out the events of X-Force Volume 2: Hide/Fear . The Volga virus that forces Cable to reboot clones of himself every day has also infected Fantomex. The super-power virus combined with Fantomex's healing factor and separate neural anatomy creates a monster of nearly limitless power and unbridled narcissism!A muddled morality message underpins the narrative as Hope has to figure out a way to prevent the team from imploding while also stopping Fantomex. The message involves the inherent error of a surveillance/arms race between mankind and mutantkind. Unfortunately the focus on a superpower virus takes focus off Mojo's interesting surveillance state that X-Force uncovers and so the message is largely lost. Writer Simon Spurrier captures Marrow's internal processes through a fascinating thought-monologue, but the larger scope of the narrative is flat.Artist Rock-He Kim has left an indelible distinctiveness on these issues. Kim utilizes many full-body images and a distinct crosshatching style that creates a peculiar "smallness" in the panels. The characters are rather small on the panel and each character is filled with many tiny boxes of the crosshatching. This art style was discordant with a narrative that was strongest when it focused on an individual character's thought because the art did not focus on the character's face--in fact almost all facial expression is lost in the art. This volume of X-Force never quite hit its stride and ends on an ultimately middle-of-the-road issue. Marrow is developed nicely. But the Volga-virus-infected Fantomex stretches credulity. And the denouement with Hope Summers was simply off-putting If you're a serious X-Fan this collection is worth it for Psylocke and Marrow. If you haven't been closely following X-Force, I would probably wait for the next incarnation of this team.

If science is right, then I am crazy. And crazy is dangerous. In a world where nothing supernatural exists, Tess Eckhart is positive she's going crazy. After her complete freakout at a high school party, her family is too. So much that they pack their bags and move across the country, next to a nationally-renowned facility for the mentally ill.Tess is determined to fit in at her new school, despite the whispers and stares. But when it comes to Luka Williams, a reluctantly popular boy in her class, she's unused to a stare that intense. Then the headaches start, and the seemingly prophetic dreams that haunt her at night. As Tess tries harder to hide them, she becomes increasingly convinced that Luka knows something--that he might somehow be responsible. But what if she's wrong? What if Luka Williams is the only thing separating her from a madness too terrifying to fathom?

The Gifting (The Gifting Series) (Volume 1), by K.E. Ganshert

Review "Chilling from start to finish! K. E. Ganshert delivers an exciting young adult fantasy that's just as fun as it is riveting. The Gifting will keep you turning pages in an effort to unlock the mystery of this unsettled world." ~Addison Moore, New York Times Bestselling Author"K.E. Ganshert brings a fresh new voice to the dystopian romance scene for young adults. Ganshert will wow her audience with captivating prose, a well-paced plot, and just the perfect amount of swoon!" ~Heather Sunseri, author of the Mindspeak series"Set in a not-too-distant future that feels frighteningly like home, this novel immerses readers within the heart of Tess's fear from the very first chapter. This is not, however, a novel of horror. Guaranteed to leave you breathless, The Gifting is an eerie merging of Gothic-like dystopian mystery and YA romance within a pulse-pounding supernatural thriller. Expect to lose sleep over this book! A must-read addition to any YA reader's collection, this one's a keeper!" ~Serena Chase, USA Today's Happy Ever After blog, author of The Ryn

By Teacher Reader I'll be honest, as a Christian reader I felt uncomfortable with the Ouija board scene and the man that Tess sees in the beginning of the story. But I think that was the point. I just wasn't far enough in. So I stopped to see if I really wanted to continue reading this book. But I have a lot of faith in this author (her other books are a completely different genre) and so I decided to press on. And I am glad I did. If you pick up this book, and are uncertain, keep reading, I was pleasantly surprised at the twists and spiritual aspects of the book that I wasn't expecting. It shows you that just because you think you know where a book is going, you don't always know. The discomfort I felt, I was supposed to feel as a reader. The Gifting is a face paced, edge of your seat, kind of story. I was reading as fast as I could to see what would happen next, and there was no way you could guess what twist would happen next. I cannot wait to read the other two books in this series. This could easily become the next biggest thing in YA lit. The story line is a dystopian, romance, that includes the supernatural. The romance is clean but Luka and Tess will draw you in as K. E. Ganshert writes their stories in such a unique and powerful way that you feel that you could be Tess or Luka experiencing those things. The romance written is a strong force that goes beyond a typical high school romance. It shows what real love can be.The dystopian aspect will cause you to stop and think. Analyzing our society and how it is similar and yet different to the setting of Tess and Luka. In ways that the Hunger Games or Divergent made you consider society's "norms" and question them, so will The Gifting. The supernatural or paranormal aspect will give you chills. The further I got into the book and the more I read the more certain I was about the underlining truth that Ganshert was telling. I am eager to read the rest of the series to find out.Fan of Frank Peretti, and Ted Dekker will definitely want to check these books out.I received this ebook in exchange for my honest review.

By Kristen Johnson "The Gifting" is a captivating tale that centers on supernatural battles of good vs. evil that are unseen by human beings. However, the story's main character Tess has the (almost) unique ability to see what most cannot. Her experiences confuse and trouble her, since she is living in a time-period and culture that doesn't accept any religion or mental weakness. She deals with the loneliness of trying to sort it all out on her own, until a couple of characters come along side her and provide understanding, companionship, and support. She battles against who she is, what she is called to do, and why she must do it until the story drops off in a cliff-hanger of an ending that leaves you absolutely aching for the next installmentThough it is a YA novel, (and I don't necessarily qualify for that age group) I absolutely loved this story! Really, I don't know if I can articulate just how much I enjoyed it, but I can honestly say I would highly recommend it to any reader. It's suspenseful, intriguing, smart, and it paints a pretty accurate picture of what possibilities there could be for our country as we know it, should we continue to push God out of our society. The evil in the story is chilling and honest, and Ganshert is obviously weaving a thread of hope and salvation into the series that is hinted at in this first book. It's just absolutely refreshing to have such a top-notch Christian story on the market that can compete with other popular YA series' like Divergent & The Hunger Games. I have no doubt that it could be just as, or even bigger than these, and would love, love, love to see it take off like wildfire. The Gifting also has a sprinkling of romance with the budding relationship between Tess and Luka. I love it that their infatuation is so young and innocent, and that it isn't necessarily the focal point of the story, but definitely adds to the mystery and draw of the tale. This story is appropriate for teen readers, and equally as intriguing for those a bit more seasoned, such as myself. I am anxiously awaiting the second installment. July 1 can't come quick enough!

If this is the quality of YA books these days, then to hell with all the current 'adult' offerings! This was very nearly as engrossing and suspenseful as "Hunger Games"; there were a few instances of scenes and dialogue that did reflect more of a YA bent, but even they were masterfully crafted. Good grief, I'm a 64-yr-old female business exec, and STILL (I'm somewhat embarrassed to admit) shed a tear or two near the end. This is one very talented author with a sparkling future, and I heartily recommend anyone with even a passing interest in near-future paranormal fiction to give this series a try. The two major characters, Tess and Luka, are likable, intelligent and engaging, and the "mean girls" at the high school where the story unfolds were every bit as nasty as the ones I remember from my own teen years of so long ago...sigh...I guess some things never change! Suggest you take a few hours and give this book a chance to capture your imagination as it did mine. Must end this review now so I can go buy the second installment...

From School Library Journal K-Gr 2—Fudge and Einstein's names define their characters: one is soft and wimpy while the other is inquisitive. Their owner, Andrea, takes her pets on vacation out west to Arizona and readers see their true personalities. Einstein is eager to explore new territory, but Fudge is tentative. Yet it is Einstein's enthusiasm that gets him into trouble and Fudge must find the courage to rescue his friend. Together they discover many parts of Arizona—some sweet and some scary. In the end, they decide that they prefer the familiarity of home. This book is filled with bright and colorful oversized illustrations in a graphic novel format appropriate for younger readers. Unlike so many picture books that rhyme, this has a whimsical, conversational rhythm—ideal for reading aloud. It also has puns that young readers will find amusing. VERDICT Any pet lover who has "naughty" animals will enjoy this fun book as will readers who like adventure. Parents packing up for summer travels will definitely want to bring this light tale along.—Gwen Collier, Buffalo and Erie County Public Library, NY

Review

"Ferrets Fudge and Einstein are back again for more fur-ocious adventures...this time in the Wild West. Einstein excitedly explores, and Fudge follows reluctantly behind as they encounter everything from cactus fruit to rattlesnakes on their desert adventure. Kids will thoroughly enjoy their virtual trip with this dynamic duo!" —Carol Simon Levin, Youth Services Librarian at Somerset County Library System

In their second adventure Einstein and Fudge travel to Arizona where they encounter some prickly moments when they get lost in the desert. But it's all good fun. Everything is good here. The writing is clever. The illustrations are great. And Karen Rostoker-Gruber knows exactly what tickles the funnybones of kids. This book is read and thoroughly enjoyed by the students at the school library where I work. We can't wait for another Fudge and Einstein adventure.

Eagerly awaited the new Fudge and Einstein adventure By heyronni My nephew loved a Ferret Fun - a book he keeps on the bookshelf right next to his bed. We read it repeatedly. He particularly likes the puns/play on words. So we were very excited to learn there was a sequel. Ferret Fun In The Sun did not disappoint. We enjoyed following the adventures of Fudge and Einstein!

Gill The desert is not a typical place for pet ferrets to roam, which makes it the perfect setting for another funny book by Karen Rostoker-Gruber. Kids will love reading about two friends—one bold, the other cautious—who discover that exploring can be a bit scary and a lot of fun.

1 of 2 people found the following review helpful. Small with much wasted white paper space By ALR This book couldn't decide on a level, style, or size. The first pages include pictures that require kids to solve math problems. It would have been acceptable if the problems had been 10+3 to end up with 13, but 17-4? Work on basic facts for young kids. My niece was frustrated from the first picture. Then turning several pages come the pictures similar to the cover, but not even that large. Small with much wasted white paper space. I'm disappointed, and wishing I had waited for my first choice to be available. Save your money.
