About the Author Page Morgan has been fascinated with les grotesques ever since she came across an old black-and-white photograph of a Notre Dame gargoyle keeping watch over the city of Paris. Her subsequent research fed her imagination, and she was inspired to piece together her own mythology for these remarkably complex stone figures. Filled with everything imaginable, it made for a epic adventure that I absolutely loved exploring! Page Morgan steps her game up in this thrilling second installment, that had my heart-racing, hands-shaking, and fingers turning the pages faster then I could read them in awe and anticipation. Everything is more intense, more raw, more dangerous, and more suspenseful as ever, as the Waverly's explore their otherworldly gifts, their demon hunting talents, and face-off against the evil hunting them!! The writing yet again was breathtaking... Truly heart-pounding and suspenseful from beginning to end!! The audiobook is DEFINITELY the way to go for this sequel, as the narrator Mary Jane Wells amply's Morgan's gifts of storytelling, and blows your audio app alive!! The characters once again were fantastic. Every single one of them were developed and had their own distinct voice that separated them from each other. I loved them all for their own special reasons. They had such growth, yet were still learning about themselves and the world around them. And it was such an adventure watching it all unfold as they got stronger, wiser, and more prepared to battle the evil hunting them. THE PLOT... ~ INGRID ~ In the short time since arriving in Paris, Ingrid's life has change drastically. Switching from her glittering gowns and ballroom parities, to taking up learning how to conjure lightening at will, and directing it from her finger tips. Oh, and slaying a demon or two while running from the fallen angle/demon Axia, and her plot to overtake the Angelic Order with her angel blood she stored within Ingrid's blood when she was a baby. But Axia and her demon lackeys are not the only ones hunting Ingrid, their are others, humans who want her blood just as bad, if not more, and are determined to go to any length necessary to get it. But Ingrid's protector gargoyle Luc, would rather die then let that happen to her. But danger still lurks in the streets of Paris, and the Dispossessed, perched on the city's bridges and rooftops, might not be able to save their human wards this time.What I Liked:So, you all know from yesterday's post that I binge-read book one and book two of this series, one on Friday, one on Saturday. So, book one's review went live on Monday, and this book's review is live on Tuesday. I don't usually binge-read books like that, but I think it's a great idea when you have several books in a series, because you are less likely to forget what happened in the previous book. Of course, you're liable to mix up events in books one and two. But I'll take that risk. But anyway. I loved the first book, and I loved this book.This book picks up a little after where book two left off. Ingrid has been raining her powers with Monsieur someone (for the life of me, I cannot remember his name), someone of the Alliance. Gabby has been training with Chelle. Luc has been avoiding Ingrid, even though that's basically impossible. There is a new gargoyle, Dimitrie, who is supposed to protect the Waverlys, with Luc. But things are not as they seem. Ingrid and Grayson are still being hunted (especially Ingrid), so much so that it feels like Ingrid against the world. All the while, Nolan's father is thoroughly against Gabby's role in the group. What is happening?!Just like in book one, there are many things going on at once. Each important character sort of has their own point-of-view in this book, like Ingrid, Grayson, Luc, Gabby, and so on. This adds to the depth of the plot, because every character has a different role in the story, and a different part of the plot. Like the last book, it all comes together in the climax, and then disperses again. I actually really like this structure. Also, you'd think it would be confusing, with multiple subplots, but it's not at all!Character development is, as usual, excellent. I didn't expect to see a lot of character development in a sequel novel, but the protagonists continue to develop in this book. I really like how Gabby's character is progressing. I liked her in this book, and I like her even more in this book. Ingrid kind of stayed the same, and I actually didn't like some of her actions, but she's cool.Luc continues to be my favorite character. I feel so bad for him in this book. Nothing is his fault, but everything gets blamed on him. And nothing goes his way. And he's still going on. He's just this poor old gargoyle who shoulders all the blame for everything and doesn't get anything in return. I love his character, his nobleness, his stubborn attitude, HIM.As far as sequels go, this book does exactly what a sequel should do. It builds on what was given in the first book, and sets up a bigger picture for the third book. The overall series' climax is coming in book three, and this book does a good job of getting readers to the overall series' plot. Some serious sh- um, STUFF, is going to go down in book three!The romance. I've been avoiding the topic of the romance, because like book one, it's not all that clear-cut. The romance is beautiful and heartbreaking and BEAUTIFUL. I really hope that things work out for Luc and Ingrid in the end... Team Luc for the win!Overall, this book was great. This SEQUEL was great. No sequel slump for the win! I cannot wait to read book three. This is seriously becoming on of my favorite historical fiction series. It WILL be, if book three is agreeable! Please be agreeable.What I Did Not Like:Please, please let the romance go in one direction and one direction only. PLEASEEE.Would I Recommend It:YESSSSSS! I loved the first book, and I love this book. If you've read the first book, regardless of whether or not you liked it, READ THIS ONE AS WELL. If you haven't started the series, YOU SHOULD DO THAT. Immediately. Especially if you like historical fiction.Rating:4 stars. What a great sequel! I'm so happy that this book lived up to my mounting expectations and did not disappoint me. I was seriously afraid of certain things not going in a certain direction (being vague on purpose!), but I'm really happy with the way things are shaping up. I hope the third book is amazing! It’s just one of those stories you can’t get enough of and when you are finished you are left wanting so much more. This is one of my all time favorite series ever!!!Opening Sentence: The quiet ached.The Review:All the Waverly’s survived their recent run in with the evil fallen angel Axia. But just because they are no longer in immediate danger that doesn’t mean they are safe. The city of Paris has many other dangers besides demons, and the Waverly’s have more enemies then they thought possible. The Dispossessed will do anything to protect their humans, but there are some things even they can’t stop. The Waverly’s are going to have to learn how to harness their own powers if they expect to survive the attacks coming their way.Ingrid Waverly couldn’t be happier that her family is finally back together but things have changed. She has just recently learned that she is part demon and she has the power to control electricity. The only problem is her power is very sporadic and she has to learn to control it or it will never be of any use to her. There are a lot of people that want to use Ingrid for her powers and not all of them want to use them for the right reasons. Ingrid is such an amazing heroine. She has a very tender and sweet spirit, but she also has a feisty side. She doesn’t like being told what to do and while she doesn’t deny help from others she does prefer to take care of herself. Watching her struggle and grow really helped me to connect with her on an even deeper level than before. I loved her in the first book and that love just grew substantially in this book.Gabby Waverly was left with some pretty severe scars from her last run in with demons, but she is lucky that is all she got. She felt so helpless against the demons. Now she wants more than anything to train to be a demon hunter for the Alliance so she will never be in that situation again. I love everything about Gabby. She is strong and resilient even though most people in her situation would just cower and hide. She knows that she is pretty worthless when it comes to a fight so she decides to do something about it even though it’s not very lady like. She is just one of those characters you can’t help but love and admire. While I love the entire cast of characters in this story I think Gabby is my favorite.Grayson Waverly’s life has really gone downhill in the last year. He was kidnapped and found out that he has the blood of a Hellhound demon. He has done some terrible things in the last year and he is ridden with guilt because of it. He also craves blood and the temptation to resist shifting just keeps getting more and more difficult. He knows that he is dangerous, but he’s not sure if he will be able to control himself or his urges. You get to know so much more about Grayson’s past which really helped me to understand him better. He is scared of who he has become but he has to learn to accept it. I could really sympathize with Grayson and I felt that while all of the Waverly’s are in a dire situation I think Grayson is the worst off. I admire him for being strong and not giving up.Luc has the unfortunate job of being the Waverly’s gargoyle. He is in charge of keeping all of them safe and it is not an easy task. Every time one of them is hurt or injured Luc is punished for it. Then there is the problem of what he feels for one of his humans. A relationship between a gargoyle and human is strictly forbidden and Luc has already been warned, but he can’t help the way he feels. I didn’t think it was possible for me to fall more in love with Luc, but I totally did. He is fiercely protective of his human charges and it’s not just because he has to be it’s because he wants to be. I admire how loyal and dedicated he is. He is also totally hot and I get butterflies just thinking about him. He has quickly become one of my favorite book boys.There is only one word I can use to describe this book: perfection. I can’t even put into words how much I love this story and everything in it. It is set in gothic Paris which gives the book a very raw and unique vibe. The characters are phenomenally done and it’s hard to put into words how much I love each of them. The story is told from multiple POV’s, which generally is not my favorite because I always tend to like one character more than the rest, but that is so not the case in this series. Morgan does a fantastic job making you care for each and every character. They all have their own story to tell, but each one is just as interesting as the next. I also find this format to be confusing in a lot of other books because you are never quite sure whose head you are in, but that was never a problem in this story. Each character has such a distinct voice I could always tell which character was the narrator at any given time. This is a sequel and the first book in this series was one of my favorite reads of last year so I had some pretty big expectations with this story and it completely delivered. From the first page, I got sucked back into the wonderful world that Morgan created and I pretty much couldn’t put it down. The plot is action packed and full of surprises that keeps the suspense running high throughout the whole story. There is great romance for each individual character, tons of drama, and great world building. The only bad thing I can say about this book is that it left me with a horrible book hangover. The ending was pretty brutal and I don’t know how I am going to survive a whole year waiting for the final book. This is one of my all time favorite paranormal books and the best book I have read this year so far. I would highly recommend this series to anyone that is a young adult fan, it is so worth the read!Notable Scene:The hansom drew to a stop, the brake lever was thrown, and the carriage door opened. Luc and Gabby waited as the set of steps crashed down. A pair of polished oxblood boots appeared on the first step, and then the visitor himself filled the frame of the door.Gabby gasped.
