Guardian to the skies, once again, let her rise By Cat Rudd I picked this book up for several reasons, the incredible cover is among them. After reading it myself, I sat down and my lil girl read it to me. She loves it. I was asked if this is part of a series of airplane stories. It's sweet, fun, and a dreamer's perfect tale of never give up. This is now a family favorite! I hope we'll be able to put it on our physical shelves on day soon too!

The group arrives with several desinations in mind, Ezra needs to visit the Pathfinder lodge in hopes of joining the illustrious group, Kyra needs to visit the local shrine of Serenrae, and Harsk the dwarf ranger needs to find a quiet open area to relax. However where there is light, there is also darkness - as followers of Serenrae are being murdered and their hearts removed, Merisel gets invited to join a thief guild, and Seoni wonders if their little group can stay together or go their seperate ways. But when a danger threatens their group, can they pull together and stop a dark force from taking over the city?I received this and read it with the other two. The usual banter between the party members is still there and there is some tender moments as well. if you enjoyed the others you must get this.

Some people i talked to about this book couldn't wrap their head around the idea of same sex relationships in fantasy setting. So if that is not your cup of tea you won't like this. Hope that doesn't keep you from reading.

By Wayne A McCoy 'Pathfinder Volume 3: City of Secrets' continues to be a nice surprise. It's a comic book series based on an rpg system, and even though I'm not familiar with the rpg system, I like what they've done. Our group of adventurers, led by Sorceror Seoni, finds themselves in the city of Magnimar. Wizard Ezren wants to seek out the Pathfinder Lodge to see if he can gain a seat there. Cleric Kyra wants to visit the temple of her god, in a rundown part of the city. Elf Merisiel wants to seek adventure, possibly on the other side of the law. Fighter Valeros just wants to have a good time, but before they can rest and relax, they find themselves wrapped up in a sinister mystery in the city. There are dark forces that want to take over the town. Can our party of heroes save the town of Magnimar?Along the way, you get a flavor for places in the game with entries showing up telling you about the city or a part of town or the Pathfinder Lodge. I think it fleshes the story out as well. There are six characters in the story, but I think they keep the story mainly balanced. The book ends with a Variant Cover Gallery, which I did get to see, and the Pathfinder Chronicles RPG Appendix, which was not included in the review copy I had. Like I said, I don't play the game, but the fantasy adventure is a decent read for a fantasy fan. I like the characters and the situations they find themselves in.I received a review copy of this graphic novel from Diamond Book Distributors, Dynamite Entertainment, and NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. Thank you for allowing me to review this graphic novel.

Despite what her warlock boyfriend, Bishop, tells her, Indie knows it’s her fault her best friend was kidnapped by the Priory. And with the Priory destroyed, finding Paige feels more hopeless than ever—especially when Indie discovers that Paige isn’t even on Earth. She’s trapped in Los Demonios, an alternate dimension of Los Angeles filled with evil paranormals. No one who has gone there has ever come out.Fueled by terror and loyalty, Indie is desperate to find a way into the underworld prison. She’ll worry about getting out later. But facing the dark world’s most dangerous witches and warlocks on her own means keeping her plan hush-hush—and forging alliances with some sketchy people, including a seriously sexy sorcerer. From School Library Journal Gr 9 Up—Former cheerleader Indigo Blackwood is still exploring her newly awakened supernatural powers after an epic battle over a magic witch's bible left in her family's care has left her mother dead and Indie in the care of her reformed party-animal aunt. After getting caught up in an ancient witch and sorcerer rivalry, Indigo's childhood friend Paige is banished to a hellscape alternate dimension of Los Angeles called Los Demonios. Paige's family has had their memories erased and are unconcerned about their missing daughter, while Indie's aunt Penny and boyfriend Bishop are convinced that postapocalyptic Los Demonios is far too dangerous for them to attempt a rescue. Forced to carry out her rescue mission in secret, Indigo experiences a brief flirtation with warlock Cruz that makes her question her relationship with Bishop and uncovers a deadly sorcerer plot that threatens teens kidnapped from Los Angeles. Indigo must also grapple with some shocking secrets about her supernatural heritage. VERDICT Krys's sequel to Hexed (Delacorte, 2014) wraps up everything fairly neatly, while still laying the groundwork for future novels in the series with hints of a school for witchcraft and wizardry in New York.—Madigan McGillicuddy, Atlanta-Fulton Public Library, Atlanta, GA

Review "Once again, Krys stirs up a mesmerizing brew brimming with witches, warlocks, and an alternate-dimension demonic Los Angeles. Consider me spellbound!"--Amy Plum, international bestselling author of the DIE FOR ME series."I loved CHARMED! Indigo is a funny, complex, and utterly lovable heroine. I couldn't turn the pages fast enough!"--Amy Tintera, author of REBOOT and REBEL.

4 of 4 people found the following review helpful. A Fantastic Second Book in a Thrilling YA Paranormal Series! By Stephanie Ward 4.5 Stars'Charmed' is the second book in a thrilling young adult paranormal series. The story picks up where the first left off - with our main character, Indie, having barely escaped a series of brutal attacks with her life. Her best friend, Paige, was taken by the crazy (and now dead) Leo - and Indie is still doing everything in her power to find her and bring her home safely. Indie feels that it's her fault Paige was kidnapped, and is determined to do whatever it takes to fix it - even when she finds out that Paige is actually in an evil alternate dimension of Los Angeles. It's a horrible place filled with the worst and most dangerous witches, warlocks, and sorcerers. Indie's determined to find a way into Los Demonios - which is basically a prison located in the underworld. In order to save her friend, Indie will have to team up with some dangerous people - not to mention a hot sorcerer. Will she be able to get into Los Demonios and find Paige before it's too late?I'm a seriously huge fan of any book dealing with witches and witchcraft, so this book (and series) immediately grabbed my attention. I'm glad that they did, because this series is very well written with a perfect blend of multiple genres, which will definitely appeal to fans of all types of fiction. Indie is a fantastic main character for the book (and series). She's intelligent, strong, caring, devoted, loving, and full of determination. The first book showed a lot of character growth for Indie, and I enjoyed watching her mature throughout the story. In this installment, she continues to grow as a person - as both a regular person and as a witch. There are more tough situations that she has to deal with throughout the story, like going to Los Demonios to rescue Paige, that bring her character close to breaking - only to have her come back stronger than ever. I liked watching Indie continue to grow and to be more confident in who she is as a whole - both normal teen and witch. I was able to immediately fall right back into Indie's world within the first couple paragraphs of the book - and it felt like I had never left. Everything was written in detail with great attention to detail and vivid imagery - to the point where I could easily close my eyes and imagine myself going through the story with Indie. Another huge aspect for me was the author's use of first person point of view. I talk about the importance of point of view in almost every review, because I truly believe that it plays a major role in how the reader experiences the story. First person POV is by far my favorite because the reader gets to really know the narrator - who is usually the main character as well - on a deeply personal level that can't be achieved in any other way. We get a look inside their minds - how they are experiencing everything that's happening during the story, along with their fears, hopes, dreams, inner thoughts, memories, and so much more. The bond that the reader is able to create with the narrator with this writing style is incredibly intimate. It also gives the story a conversational tone, which I think makes it flow more naturally and helps the reader to immerse themselves fully into the book.Everything about this book was fantastic - it surpassed any expectations and hopes I had for it after reading the first one. The characters - including the major and even some minor ones - were all unique with their own personalities and traits. The setting was basically just like our world - except for the whole witch/warlock aspect. But in this book we get to experience the underworld for a while in Los Demonios. The author did a wonderful job transporting the reader into this magical and terrifying place, just as she did with the rest of the book. The story had a quick yet natural pace, except for when things were getting really suspenseful and full of action, and it made it even faster. I found myself devouring each page to see what was going to happen next and ended up reading the whole book in one sitting. It's definitely a page-turner that's full of everything you could ask for - action, adventure, excitement, paranormal aspects, witches, fantasy, and even romance. Because of this great blend of genres, the book will appeal to fans of all types of fiction. There's a bit of something for everyone inside. Overall, I definitely recommend this book (and series) to all readers - especially those who love stories about witches, along with paranormal and fantasy fiction. The only thing I hate about series is having to wait for what feels like forever for the next installment to come out, which is what I have to do now - but I'll deal with it because I can't wait to see what's going to happen in the next book!Disclosure: I received a copy of the book in exchange for an honest review.

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Love This Series By Amazon Customer Indie is back and she is freaking out, literally, she has spent the last few weeks looking for her best friend Paige with no luck. She has tried every spell that she and her boyfriend Bishop can think of, but witchcraft has done her no good. And she is getting tired of people telling her that it's not her fault, she knows that it's her fault that Paige was kidnapped by the Priory. And now that the Priory is destroyed? Finding Paige it's getting to be even harder, but not impossible, that's what Indie believes and it ends up been true.Indie ends up finding out that Paige is not in Earth, she is trapped in Los Demonios, an alternate dimension of Los Angeles, an underworld prison. A prison filled with evil paranormals, where those evil paranormals go and don't ever come out. Indie desperate to get her best friend out of that cruel underworld prison, tries and finds a way to get there and decides to worry later about a way to get out of there. But that also means keeping that plan hush-hush from her boyfriend and her aunt, because they certainly wouldn't like to know about her going to face the world's most dangerous witches and warlocks on her own. And so she keeps it a secret from them and forms alliances with some sketchy people, including a seriously sexy sorcerer. But on the way she learns that she isn't the only one keeping secrets after all. She learns secrets about her aunt and her mother and her father, some secrets that she wishes she never found out that's for sure. Not going to much in depth in these secrets, because what fund would it be for YOU to read it after, right?I really enjoyed this book, there were a lot of action and lots and lots of twists, which are my favorite things in a book. There were times that I wish Indie wasn't keeping so much from Bishop but at the same time I understood where she was coming from. I loved Bishop, he was amazing in the first book and still amazing in this one, perfect boyfriend. Her aunt was pretty great in this book, I kind of hated her at the beginning of the book, but as the book progressed and the secrets came out you got to understand her and root for her at the end.4 out of 5 stars, the end was pretty amazing and wrap up a lot, but I still think a lot can be done with this series and I cannot wait for the next book.Have you read these books? What do you think of the series so far?

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Missing what made the first book special By Graves I know I'm not the target audience for htis book , but I enjoyed the first book in the series, about Indigo, a California teen whio discovers she's a hereditary witch caught up in a magical war with another faction, that I jumped at the chance to preorder the next book. This was however definately a case of look before you leap.Picking up where the las book ended Indigo is frantically looking for her besty friend who had been kidnapped by the other faction to use as leverage. Unfortunately the leader of the faction who knew where she was hidden was killed, in the last book before anyone knew they needed to ask him where the girl was.Feeling guilty for getting her friend involved and frantic to find her while everyone else is trying to move on, Indi becomes more and more the rebellious teen, lashing out against the well meaning family and friends who are trying to hold her back as she starts to realize there is much more at stake than just one missing friend. So far, so good. so why did this drop in ratings for me to only 3 stars? Becasue somewhere between this book and it's predecessor some of the joy, the sparkle faded from the writing. In the first book Indigo was clearly a teen ager, a happy high schooler who had to adjust to the world of magic around her. There was a sense of wonder and 'you gotta be kidding me' to her. In this book, starting only days after the last one ended she is fully adjusted to this. She wants to learn more magic but she is no longer surprised by such things as a magically hidden occult bizzare at Venice Beach or horrific monsters. It's suddenly become 'wow gotta deal with these' rather than 'how is this happening?" and her acceptance is just too pat.Again I'm not the target audience, BUT target or not I did love the first volume. So much so I bought the second only to be deeply disdappointed by the sophomore work. I'm sure others might enjoy Indigo's further adventures but for me, the sparkle that made book one special, was snuffed out.

By Stacey Love This is absolutely perfect for single people out in the dating world however it is also a great read for those already in a relationship and/or married. My husband and I have been together for over 20+ years and it never hurts to learn extra tips such as How to Increase the Lust Factor, better our Conversational Skills, learn new Action Plans, What to do When He Pulls Away, Turn-offs and Tips to Make Him Crazy for You...just to name a few. This is definitely a great read, I got it saying to myself I would just take my time and peruse it at my leisure however I couldn't put it down! It is so interesting and great because I will go back to it often it's, the kind of book you can refer to and read more than just the once picking up on so much more each time! It talks about what certain body language indicates, voice pitch down to what wearing certain colors means such as which colors are calming, angelic and innocent even so more approachable romantic and sexual. Scent being the strongest sense link to memory and even discusses which ones! It also covers the topic of Online Dating, First Impressions and so much more. I am so impressed by this book, how it was written and that it is geared well towards anyone!

Lol But seriously, I am married yet found that this was such a blessing!! Based first of all, by a psychology professional. This book talks about the attraction of men and women. So then I could not put it down because even in my day to day activities with my husband i have a hard time with conversation and my body language, then turn offs and tips to make him crazy.. because even us married people need tips! I would strongly suggest this book to anyone, single or married so that you can increase your marriage by tips like your body language, according to a social psychologist. Note, your first impression even like I said being married I want to have that attraction when my husband comes home from work and I'd like to have the turn off and tips to make him crazy to liven up our marriage. So like I said, this was definitely helpful for me and I would strongly suggest it to anybody! :-)Disclaimer, I was not paid to write this review I was given a sample to write my honest opinions and suggestions. :)

I have been in a relationship for 8 years, and it seems like i've lost ways to reconnect with my fiance, rather it be through body language, to conversation. This book gives great tips on how to regain our relationship in a sensual way. Seems like over time, some of that stuff fades away. It is a.great book for those who are out of the dating game, or are in a relationship but would like to learn how to keep that relationship connection. If your in a similar situation, i recommend you to read this book as soon as possible, great tips and ideas!

Review  High School with a twist of Paranormal and Romance, 16 and up, September 16, 2015By Valerie RobersonVerified Purchase(What's this?)This review is from: Descendant (The Descendant Series Book 1) (Kindle Edition)Review @ 12:52 amDescendant by L.J.AmodeoMy eyes are red and swollen from crying through the last few chapters as my heart went out to Beth with her pain and sorrow. This book is amazing! A fantastic read for kids in High School or just out of High School, for they can relate to the drama and bulls*** (sorry)! As for me, it's been 36 years since then, but boy did it bring back memories. This is high school with a huge twist of paranormal and romance. It will have you wanting more! The places it took place in reminds me of White Face Mountain and Lake Placid and Keeseville N.Y.. I could relate to the story in more ways than one, which had my emotions all over the place. I so very much enjoyed this book and highly recommend it to ages 16 and up. Looking forward to the next chapter!

By Kelly Smith Reviews *I received a copy of the book in exchange for an honest review.*First of all, let me begin by saying that I was so glad to read a YA paranormal book that had the love story as the background rather than shoved down your throat in a flurry of whispered promises and too many adverbs.Let's start with the characters: Elizabeth is a teen with a lot of emotional baggage, after her father abandoned her mother and her and has now passed away. To top it off, Elizabeth can hear the voices of the dead, and as time progresses, they get worse, making doctors think she might be schizophrenic. She's lower class in a high class school and is constantly teased. Something I think 99% of my readers can relate to, myself included.Freddie is her best friend and secret admirer. He's happy-go-lucky and positive, always supporting her no matter what. He is the perfect BFF...but will he ever be more to Elizabeth? There is mystery and intrigue, plot twists and character development. The reader, along with Elizabeth, won't know what to do or who to trust at times. But they will know one thing: that Elizabeth is a very realistic and likable main character. She's just like you...except she's got a very difficult journey ahead of her.The book ends on a major cliffhanger, which makes you want to count the days till the book two is released. Unfortunately, that is also the reason this book gets a four instead of a five from me. I can't give a full rating when it's not a full story. I know I have said this before and it's true. But I loved reading this book. It was fun, engrossing and mysterious. LJ just might be the next big thing in YA fiction!

I was entranced from the first the beginning of this book. I couldn't turn the pages fast enough!!!! I hate that it ended in a cliffhanger only because I was so enchanted by the story and the characters that I couldn't get enough!!! All I can tell you is that you will most definitely have to purchase and read this book asap to find out why I am so enamored with this book. I can't wait to read the next installment. I very highly recommend Descendant!!

She’s always been an outcast, but a new girl who has just moved to town befriends her in a heartbeat. And the new guy in town has his eyes set on her as well. It’s certainly no coincident that the two of them entered her life at the same time, and suddenly Beth is thrown into a struggle between demons and angels, and Beth is the key to unlocking everything in their world. My personal feelings of this book went up and down and up and down. Certain times I was on the edge of my seat clutching my head in shock and holding my breath in anticipation of what would happen next. Other times I was wishing the story would just hurry up and be over with because nothing exciting was going on or there was just too much repetition of information. I really didn’t like this one character, Beth’s friend Freddie, so every time he showed up, I couldn’t help wishing that he would leave. I also didn't realize there would be such heavy religious themes in this book, so readers who don't want to deal with that should be warned. The imagery of the story is excellent, and I especially love the psychological aspects of the story – trying to figure out if everything was just in Beth’s head or if it was part of this supernatural world she suddenly got stuck in. The writing, in general, if good, but could use a bit of polishing and maybe another round of editing. Overall, I was satisfied with this book and the story with a complex array of characters, though, in all honesty, I can’t really see myself returning for the next book in the series. I would have preferred a tighter ending and a more conclusive ending.

Hidden Huntress: Malediction Trilogy Book Two, by Danielle L. Jensen

Review “Love, adore, heart-to-freaking-pieces. This kind of book is why, why, why people need to look more closely at YA fantasy if they don’t already. Let Jensen show you how it’s done. Topping Stolen Songbird was always going to be a difficult task, but naturally Jensen manages it. The bar was set and so she vaulted over it, off into the sunset to a fanfare of praise.”– Jet Black Ink“This is a wonderfully written story, and as the second novel in this series, it perhaps even supersedes the first as it morphs in to entirely new directions.”– Quirkathonic“I would highly recommend this book to everyone! It’s action-packed, full of magic and has great characters.  My only regret is that I’ll have to wait such a long time for the third book.”– The Fictional Reader“This was an absolutely fantastic YA fantasy novel. There is a ton of wonderful magic and intrigue in this book. I love the chemistry between Cecile and Tristan and how they are both striving to make the kingdom a better place for all involved. I really enjoyed this book a ton and am very excited to see how the story wraps up in the final book of this series. This series is highly recommended to fans of intrigue heavy fantasy.”– Hidden In Pages“Hidden Huntress is a solid and well developed story…Ms. Jensen’s writing makes it so that the story remains intriguing and unpredictable each step of the way.”– The Blair Book Project“My heart soars and breaks at the same time just by thinking about this book. This awesome, stunning and wonderfully written book. Hidden Huntress was epic & such an exciting adventure into a world filled by magic so dark and beautiful. It made me smile, it made me grieve, it made my heart pump faster than ever before, and impossible as I thought it was, it made me fall harder and deeper in love with this series.”– The Reader and The Chef“Hidden Huntress is just as good, if not better, than Stolen Songbird. Let me tell you, this book has no hint of Middle Book Syndrome, which usually plagues trilogies. So much important stuff happens that I couldn’t even begin to summarize it, and I’m not going to try. Because Hidden Huntress is too good to spoil!”– Leeanna.me“Hidden Huntress is the sequel to Stolen Songbird, a book I loved and adored and encouraged everyone of my acquaintance to read. I’ll have to adopt the same tack with this worthy follow-up, because Danielle L. Jensen’s emotional resonance game is strong, strong, strong.”– In the Forest of Stories“Any fan of The Malediction trilogy would not want to miss out on this exquisite continuation to Stolen Songbird!”– Book Cat Pin“With all kinds of magic and witchery, this book embodies the title of Hidden Huntress. Danielle L. Jensen has shaped an underground city of magical creatures into one of my most valued book worlds – and that makes me extremely excited for future works.”– Adriyanna K. Zimmerman“Hidden Huntress definitely does not suffer ‘Middle Book Syndrome’. It is full of action and gives us what we long for too. I am even more in love with the series than after finishing the first book!”– The Reading Nook NZ“The book was suspenseful, nerve-racking, drama, mystery, romance, and everything good rolled together and I experienced an onslaught of emotions to the point were I needed to take a break or I wasn’t going to be able to deal. I honestly can’t wait for the next book. Seriously, I need a copy, a clue, a hint of something right now because after that ending I just don’t know how I’m going to survive.”– Musical Bibliolater“Hidden Huntress was everything and more that I wanted in a sequel! I can’t even begin to tell you how much I loved Stolen Songbird, so I had some pretty high expectations for this book and it totally delivered. The pages are full of action, mystery, romance, and a very intriguing plot!”– Dark Faerie Tales“After having LOVED Stolen Songbird, Hidden Huntress had some big shoes to fill as far as expectations go. And I am happy to say that Danielle Jensen did not disappoint. Although Hidden Huntress was a different kind of story, it was every bit as exciting and wildly imaginative as its predecessor.”– The Quiet Concert“I loved this book so much. There were so many different elements at play that came together to make an excited, riveting, infuriating and suspenseful tale that kept me mesmerized from cover to cover.Danielle did a wonderful job of making sure all of the pieces to this story had a purpose and that they all came together seamlessly in the end. The mystery, danger, suspense, political intrigue, family ties, friendship, treachery, betrayal, power and love. It all was just so good!”– A-Novel-Ty“Hidden Huntress was a solid second book to this series, the plot developed quite a bit and set itself up very nicely for the final book in this series. I CAN’T WAIT! There are so many different things that could happen in the last book and I’m excited to find out If you’re a fan of YA romance/fantasy, I highly recommend this series!”– These Paper Hearts“Hidden Huntress opens up the world, simply put. It felt bigger and more encompassing, upping the ante for all involved. The pull of the story was irresistible, given how so much more now rests on the success of our protagonists. Everything that the first book set us up for comes to fruition, complete with welcome twists and unexpected surprises…that incredible ending sure has me eager for book three.”– The BiblioSanctum“Hidden Huntress is suspenseful, romantic, and will have you at the edge of your seat waiting to see what happens next.  If you loved Stolen Songbird, you should read this one immediately!”– Books Without Any Pictures“I enjoyed Hidden Huntress immensely which delivered in every aspect as much as I expected. Thankfully it does not suffer the dreadful second book syndrome which Jenson beautifully crafted out the trilogy, where each book feels like a new chapter in Cécile and Tristian’s lives.”– Escapism From Reality

About the Author Danielle was born and raised in Calgary, Canada. At the insistence of the left side of her brain, she graduated in 2003 from the University of Calgary with a bachelor's degree in finance. But the right side of her brain has ever been mutinous; and in 2010, it sent her back to school to complete an entirely impractical English literature degree at Mount Royal University and to pursue publication. Much to her satisfaction, the right side shows no sign of relinquishing its domination.

By Charlene Stolen Songbird, the first book in this trilogy was a magical read for me. It had a lovely romance that built on the characters getting to know each other, a very suspenseful and fast-paced plot, and an intriguing take on trolls and their mythology. The world-building was especially immersive, and I am delighted that all of the things I loved about the first book, is expanded and built upon beautifully in Hidden Huntress. There's already a lot of tension in this story because of the way the first book ended. While in the first book I did not always love the dual POV between Cécile and Tristan, in this book it was absolutely necessary and the two storylines meshed together perfectly. It's also a major plus that both storylines were equally riveting. Sometimes when a book switches to a different plot line at the end of a chapter, I feel frustrated and indifferent to the new direction the story takes because I want to keep going with the other set of characters, but with Hidden Huntress, I was totally engrossed the whole way through. The author did such a wondrous job of keeping the pace and the interest in both plot lines pretty high all the way. This is such an excellently plotted book - there is no second-book syndrome here! With the romance between Cécile and Tristan being part of the reason why I loved the first book so much, I was afraid I wouldn't enjoy this one because of the circumstances from the first book. But again the author manages to keep the tension of the romance going despite the separation. And I was totally satisfied with every aspect of it. Cécile and Tristan have such great chemistry as characters - it's so easy to understand them and root for their happy ending.Another aspect that I loved about this book is learning more about the fantasy world. This story takes some interesting twists, and manages to make the world of Trianon just as fascinating as Trollus. Which, given how wonderfully detailed Trollus was in the first book, is no small feat! I also loved getting to see more of Cécile's family and friends which helped to flesh out more of Cécile's character.Even though the ending, which is very dramatic, sets up the third book beautifully, I was so glad that some important plot threads were wrapped up, and there's a real sense that the story and the characters are developing believably. This was an exciting read, with just more of everything that made the first book amazing. I can't remember the last time I was so completely satisfied with a book in every respect. If you want a gorgeously detailed fantasy with strong characters and a romance that will make you melt, this is the series for you!(I received this book from the publisher or author for a fair and honest review. I was not compensated for this review.)

By Bibliotropic .net Following up on Danielle Jensen’s hit YA novel, Stolen Songbird, Hidden Huntress continues the story of Cecile and Tristan, and the trolls that influence their lives. Cecile is in Trianon, following in her mother’s social footsteps and building her social and musical career while at the same time searching for Anushka, the woman who cursed the trolls so many centuries ago. Tristan is still trapped in Trollus, reviled by half-bloods and full-bloods alike for his deception, trying to regain influence and uncovering some disturbing truths along the way. The troll king wants freedom, wants Anushka’s curse broken, and Angouleme wants control of the throne. Politics and prophesy come to a head as the layers get peeled back and the mystery comes undone. It’s interesting to see Cecile and Tristan far apart for the better part of the book. With the two of them being magically bonded, they remain aware of the other’s strong emotions, which influence them in various ways. Tristan’s pain from having iron spikes shoved through his arms affects Cecile’s health and energy. Cecile’s bonded vow to the troll king to find Anushka brings Tristan to desperation, and the two feed off each other in a mostly detrimental way. I actually liked the way this was handled quite a bit, since it was a major inversion of how most psychic bonds are done in fiction, especially between two people in love. Most of the presentation of that bond were actually quite detrimental. The bond doesn’t stop someone from cheating on their partner, for instance, but it does make the partner aware of what’s going on, and the cheater feels the emotional pain of the one they’ve wronged. The death of one is often the death of the other. Often you see such bonds as romantic and wonderful, but here it was shown to have as many or more drawbacks as it has benefits. The mystery of Anushka was an interesting one. Who is she? Where is she? How has she lived for so long? Cecile’s sections were highly focused on that investigation, and it was fun to see where all the clues went. I started to form my own theories on Anushka’s identity about halfway through the book (and I’m glad to see that I was right in my theory!), but even though I saw that big reveal coming from a distance, the way all the pieces fit together in the end still surprised me now and again, and here were a few times I put things together only a page or two before it was said outright. I love it when mysteries can do that, and I think Jensen’s got a great talent for writing the exact sort of mystery I like best.In the same vein, I also love how Jensen added sympathy to Anushka by revealing more of her backstory, and from her point of view. Why she did what she did, how she was wronged so many centuries ago, and why she started on her path to revenge. I love shades-of-grey villains like that, ones who do terrible things but still have their reasons for it. Better still, reasons that even her opponents – Cecile, Tristan, and the readers themselves – can understand and to a degree agree to. But rather than taking that to extremes and presenting Anushka as the wronged misunderstood party, she was still very much a villain. I agree with Cecile when she said that Anushka deserved to get revenge for what was done to her, but that doesn’t erase the fact that she’s a murderer and someone who has punished an entire race for the wrongs of a few individuals. I adored this scene in the novel, where all of that is revealed; it’s probably one of those most powerful and moving scenes in the whole novel. Also of note, I really liked Cecile’s character development in Hidden Huntress. While she wasn’t exactly a timid little mouse in Stolen Songbird, she’s grown in some very interesting ways, and much of that comes from the situations she’s confronted as the story progressed. Her encounters with blood magic influence her very strongly here, as she twice chooses to do a terrible thing that sickens her in order to get the needed power to do what is expedient rather than take the slower and less certain path. I do like that the story didn’t devolve into some personal battle to stop using blood magic, though, since while that’s an interesting enough journey for a character to take, I feel it would have weakened the rest of the story as a whole, adding a dimension that didn’t need to be added. So Jensen gets much praise from me for being able to walk that balance well. The novel ends on a cliffhanger, and what a cliffhanger it is! But it doesn’t leave the main plot thread dangling; that’s wrapped up very nicely, and the cliffhanger ending is much more a consequence of what happened in the novel rather than an attempt to drag the events out further. Between this, and Stolen Songbird itself, it’s easy to see why Jensen is making such waves in the YA genre. Her writing is gorgeous, the plot tight and well-paced, villains you love to hate, and characters who are fantastically unique and not without many the many flaws that make a person a person. Suffice it to say that I’m already looking forward to the next book! This series is a definite stand-out in a saturated genre, rekindling interest and giving me greater respect for the gems that can be found on the YA shelves.

5 of 5 people found the following review helpful. A thrilling second installment... By Alicia 4 STARSWell, that was certainly interesting! My feelings are all conflicted and discombobulated. On one hand I absolutely adored this book, but on the other, I had quite a few problems with it that just wouldn't settle. My love for these characters and this series runs deep from the first book, but this book lacked a lot of what I fell in love with from the beginning. But nevertheless, I still loved HIDDEN HUNTRESS for it's own reasons, and so excited to continue this series and finally see how it all ends.THE POSITIVE:The magic! I've always enjoyed the fierce magic of this world. The Troll magic is my favorite, it's raw and fierce, and a force not to be reckoned with. And I loved watching that magic be used and all the fun little things that could be done with it. I also liked the witches magic too, but that wasn't as strong or desirable as the trolls magic was. The witches magic was used through the earth, spells, and worst of all, blood magic. And that magic can get to be very dark, and it was almost as fun as the Trolls magic, almost.I still love my two favorite characters Cécile and Tristan, even if the romance lacked, which I will get into below. They were both broken and desperate, and riding the line of extreme. And that was a new side of both Cécile and Tristan, but also an interesting side of their characters vulnerability. Watching them endure and fight through each obstacles as it was thrown at them, just reminded me of why I loved them both so much from the very beginning.THE NEGATIVE:The romance! That was a HUGE let down for me in this highly anticipated sequel. I was expecting full blown chemistry and affection and a deep adoration between our main characters Cécile and Tristan. But they were separated for most of the book, and when they were finally reunited, it was like they were strangers.Let me explain...In the first book I absolutely loved Cécile and Tristan. I adored them both together and apart for their own different reasons. From the start they had bad blood between them for what the king was forcing upon them. But they found that they weren't really that different, and that they were stronger as allies then enemies. And then their pull became too strong and they ultimately became lovers. The bond that united them allowed them to be in-tune with each others desires and needs, so they were connected in away that not too many others were, unless you where bonded. But it was also more then that, they had a chemistry and love so sweet, that it literally broke my heart. But in this book their was none of that, and when they finally did reunite, they had hardly any emotions or sexual interactions. They were distant, and had this gap between them that couldn't be filled no matter what they did. Tristan went through his own struggles with his time in captivity, and his betrayal to his people, so he was hurting, I understand that. But I hoped when he and Cécile finally got back together, it would be different and they would become like they were. But nope that was not the case and it was a heartbreaking let down!!Another issue was the way Cécile let her mother treat her. She let her mother walk all over her like she was a dog. Her mother was nonexistent for most of her life, yet Cécile runs off to join her mother at the opera house when she returns from her life threatening experience in Trollus. And her mother treats her like dirt, and most of the time Cécile does nothing about it. Their was that rare moment when Cécile grows some balls and tries to put her mother in her place, but even then, she doesn't try very hard. It was just the opposite of the Cécile I've grown to love in STOLEN SONGBIRD!Another issue was the predictability of HIDDEN HUNTRESS. I seen most of the twist coming miles away! I knew from one of the first chapters who Anushka was. Something happens in the beginning that Cécile doesn't remember that gave Anushka's true identity away. And that was not fun at all knowing the big twist as soon as the books starts. I wanted it to be a big surprise and have my opinion waver throughout the book. But it didn't, and I also figured out other twists too. But nevertheless, even with all these negative things, I still able to REALLY enjoyed this book, a lot!THE PLOTCÉCILE:Cécile has had her world ripped apart so many times, but this time the fate of both Trollus and the human world depend on what she does. She is destine to break a 500 year old curse, but is it really the right thing to do, and is she willing to subject both humans and trolls to the evil that's bound to be unleashed if the trolls are ever freed?Cécile now lives in Trianon with her overly stern mother. Singing in the opera has always been a dream for Cécile, but now it's nothing more then an interference with her goal. A goal that is now an obligation, a compelling thought in the back of her mind, forcing her to find Anushka no matter the circumstance. But Cécile will have more surprises and struggles then she's ever anticipated, and the path to finding the witch may just bring her back to where and why it all started, and ultimately, change her in ways she never thought possible...TRISTAN:Deep below the rock mountain, the Trolls remain cursed to their eternal resting place, where they're destined to stay until the ancient curse can finally be broken. The prophecy has been foretold..."Bring forth and bind the Prince of Night and Daughter of Day, and together the witch they will slay...Then and only then, will the curse be broken, forever...But after 500 years there is still no sign of Anushka, the witch who cursed them to their eternal doom. But the time has come for her to finally come out of hiding, because Anushka has just met her match, Cécile...Tristan is still living with the repercussions of defying his father, the king of all Trollus, for saving his wife Cécile from dying at the hands of his wickedly insane brother. He has lived with iron shackles for two months in a prison cell binded by magic. He has been striped bare and endured much for his deceit. So when his father releases him from his imprisoned hell, picking himself up after betraying the people he was suppose to be protecting, and killing so many who entrusted their lives in his hands, is no easy feat. Because he is now the despicable fallen prince of all of Trollus...No longer heir to the Trollus throne, Tristan has reluctantly been let out of his cage, only to have a different kinda of hell thrust upon him. No one trust him, everyone hates him, his friends have been punished for their loyalty and assistance to him, his best friend was murdered, only to find that she wasn't actually murdered like he thought. His mother is going insane, his brother is now the new heir, and will bring is wrath down upon all he chooses when he wears the crown. And his wife and love of his life, is a world away going through her own kinda pain, and their is nothing he can do about any of it. But Tristan has not come this far and inflicted and endured all this pain for nothing. He will keep fighting, he will find a way to save his people, his wife, and hopefully humanity before all is lost to them all....Overall, even with all my ups and downs, I still highly enjoyed this book, a lot. At times I found myself fully immersed and addicted, but other times I found myself rolling my eye and saying okay, enough of that lets move on to something else already. But my overall feeling when I closed this book was where is book three, I NEED it in my life NOW! So though the beginning and some of the middle were a little rough, the ending was amazing and fully sucked my into it's addicting story. So I was left feeling satisfied and overly confident that book three will give book one a run for it's money, and I can't WAIT!!NOTE: I received an eBook from Angry Robot for reviewing purposes. All opinions expressed are my own and are not influenced in any way!

Growing up is a miraculous time. The journey from the freedom of childhood to the workaday life of becoming an adult is filled with both poignancy and wonder. Fond memories of pedaling bikes through honeysuckle-scented streets with a pack of neighborhood friends and playing “kick the can” and stickball on warm summer evenings alight with fireflies are accompanied by the inevitable loss of people and places dear to the heart—and a seminal moment when we know we’re leaving childhood behind. These are the stories of a turning point—when the world shifted, and nothing would ever be the same. In this first collection of the MEMORIES FROM MAPLE STREET, U.S.A., series, Sundown Press brings you real-life stories, from the touching to the humorous, the inspirational to the adventurous, and a wonderful group of childhood memories you’ll never forget.

Each writer was asked to relate one event in his/her childhood that made a difference and set the person on the pathway to adulthood. Each short story is written in first person, and promises to be funny or maybe melancholy, but in the end...very entertaining. After all..that's what writers do...entertain!I hope you pick up a copy, sit down with your feet up, and begin reading.I loved this anthology.Five StarsRising Star Reviews
