I would recommend them to my friends. And I love Harris and Lucy and obvuiously I knew something bad would happen so the major book would be in 2016 but this I couldn't even imagine. So I am about the spoil the cliff hanger and the reason is I think this book should have had a clearer warning. While I enjoyed most of the book, I hated the beginning of Harris disapearing on Lucy, then he comes back and it was great. The birthday was great but and here is the spoiler but I think it needs to warned, someone gets raped. I had no warning and I positively hated this and in fact I can't believe the author went there with the rape. This is a character I watched grow up, and to see them raped and then video taped it discusted me. I can't even believe the author went there. A million other ways she could have gone to break Lucy and Harris apart but this one is something I could not stomache and I felt there really should be a warning.

Vizzle ***WARNING CONTAINS SPOILERS****So I'm not normally a reviewer, but I was completely shocked that people are giving this book 4 and 5 stars. So I felt I had to speak my piece about this book. First let me say I am a HUGE fan of Terri Anne Browning, the Rocker Series being in my top 5 as well as the Angel's Halo Series, so it literally pains me to write such a poor review. With that said, I STRONGLY disliked this book to that point that I wish I could unread what I've read and just forget it ever existed. I'm very disappointed with the direction the author took this book. Having Harris have sex (drugged or not) with Tessa and then have Tessa send videos of it to Lucy, is terrible. Completely just ruined this series for me. I'm all for a little drama in my books and even a good cliffhanger but this particular storyline just upsets me. I mean has Lucy not been through enough!!!!! In fairness to the author I do see where this is going, he was drugged and doesn't remember it, not his fault, but Lucy can never unsee what she saw on those videos and speaking from experience it's not something that you easily get over. It's something that lingers, festers and has the potential to take what should have been a great story about true love and ruin it. Perhaps it's just me, but this relationship feels ruined and tarnished to me now. At this point I honestly wish the author would have just kept these 2 characters as best friends then to put them together just to rip them apart this way. And now we have to wait a full year for the conclusion, not okay! I honestly can't see how anyone who read this is happy about that. Reading this book has actually put me on the fence about whether I want to continue reading this series in fear that the author will continue to ruin my other favorite couples. This is all just my opinion, clearly some people read this and loved it. I may not understand how that's possible, but to each their own. For me I'm upset and unhappy with this book. It would take a miracle storyline of Tessa having photoshopped Harris into the video (which is unfortunately not believable) for me to change my feelings on this.

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. I don't understand, why you even wrote these two books? By Amazon Customer I don't understand why this book would need to be in four parts, and then to have this series not ending until 2016 is ridiculous, what are you thinking I do not understand, I have read all of your Rocker series books and I have enjoyed reading all of of them, but this book is ridiculous and the problem is The story line is ridiculous this book could have been summed up and should have been summed up in one book for you to make four books out of it is ridiculous and I would hope that you are not planning on selling them for more than 99 cents each which would be about the same price as your other rocker series books, ( again why four books). I hope that you will keep in mind that you are basically nothing without your readers and I am sure that I am not the only one who is very disappointed with these two books, and just to let you know I was so disappointed in this book that I did not even read the whole book all the way through, I only read the beginning of it and the end the book was horrible, and also you stated at the end of this book that The Rocker Who Hates Me would be coming out on June 6 now the book is not coming out to July why? Mrs Terri Anne Browning I am so disappointed in you. Please do better with your next books.(FYI: The reason that I used the word ridiculous so much is because I am trying to make a point, and I hope that you get what I am saying)

Nasty Divorce: A Kid’s Eye View will open your eyes to the true life tragedy that comes with high conflict divorce. Author Marina Sbrochi has been writing positive divorce advice for The Huffington Post for since 2012. It was her post on The Lasting Effects of Talking Nasty About Your Ex that sparked a firestorm of comments. Parental alienation, abuse and mental illness are a common theme in many of these stories. After reading this book, there will be no doubt in your mind, high conflict divorce is incredibly damaging. You’ll read first hand things like: “My mom trashed my dad all my life (I’m in my 50’s and he died in 2010, but she still tries!) The result was me going through self-hatred, suicidal thoughts, low self-worth, alcoholism, and always trying to achieve and “perform” enough, meanwhile dating ALL the wrong men—for a long time!!” ****** “The children (now adults) still go to therapy to deal with the loss of the relationship they had with their mother.” ****** If Colleen could summarize her parents divorce in one sentence, it would be this: “It was more about vengeance than actually about gaining custody of their children.” ****** “Do you know what it’s like to listen to one parent bash your other parent on a daily basis? It’s exhausting. Although, for the most part, my dad has stopped — our relationship continues to hang by a thread. Psychological damage like that just does not heal overnight, instead it lingers and persists, perhaps for a lifetime. I’m not over it yet.”

Great and accessible look at what divorce does to children By Amazon Customer As the author of How to Talk to Your Kids About Your Divorce, I understand how difficult divorce can be on children. Sbrochi uses many stories to illustrate her points about the importance of keeping kids' needs as a number one priority during divorce. Trash talking and other "nasty" behaviors end up hurting the very people that parents wish to protect- their kids. Get this book if you want to know how to avoid the common pitfalls that make divorce so stressful for children.

3 of 3 people found the following review helpful. A must-read for any divorcing or divorced parent! By Erin Mantz Powerful! All I can say is the true stories from the kids' points of view are overwhelming and incredibly important for every divorcing or divorced parent to read. As a child of divorce, parenting writer, and now divorced mom, I thought i'd seen it all - until I read this. The conflict some parents in this story create and continue are destroying childhoods - and they don't need to. I hope Marina Sbrochi's book puts a spotlight on how to make coparenting work - or at least co-exist.

By rstevens Wow...great insight on what irreparable damage can be done to the children during divorce. A true guide on what NOT to do. Definitely recommend to both men and women who are contemplating divorce, going through it or are divorced but still dealing the children being brought into the mess by one or both parents.

Tracked, by Jenny Martin

From School Library Journal Gr 8 Up—Phoebe Van Zant's mother left her and her father, a legendary street racer, to fend for themselves on the planet Castra when Phee was very young. A few years later, her father mysteriously disappeared, and Phee was taken in by a caring family. Now 17, Phoebe hasn't been able to shake the thrill she also gets from racing, and she is blackmailed into racing for Benroyal, a very powerful corporation. It's not long before she discovers Benroyal's powers reach farther than any corporation should and there are plans for expansion. At the risk of losing her best friend, Bear, she and her new pacer, Cash, work with other undercovers to overthrow the corporation's stronghold on the government and the people of Castra. In this science fiction novel, Martin has fashioned a universe of planets created, built, or otherwise funded by corporations that rule society and the government, although the invented slang can slow readers from understanding it fully. The fast pace continues throughout the story, as races unfold, secrets are revealed, and readers get to know Phoebe, a snarky, strong-willed, female heroine whose ability to read people well is her saving grace. Filled with new technology, political motivations, and action-packed racing scenes, this book will appeal to fans of the Fast and the Furious movies as well as readers of dystopia. VERDICT A good science fiction novel with a likable protagonist.—Stephanie DeVincentis, Downers Grove North High School, IL

Take Need for Speed.Throw in some Elysium space business.Add a dash of tough girl meets secretive boy.A little bit of a three-wheeling best friend with his heart on his sleeve.A hint of Mario Kart in a dystopian world.A heaping serving of PLOT TWIST!Now, set all that to a Foo Fighter’s soundtrack.Out comes Tracked. And I love it.I’m not a big fan of Nascar and I’ve never seen any of the Fast & Furious movies. But I did play the hell out of Mario Kart and Need for Speed. So I knew just enough to be stoked for this book. And I’m so glad I gave it a go!There wasn’t a single time while I was reading where I felt bored or uninterested. I was quickly sucked into the Phee’s world of high speed racing. All the little secrets she uncovered and the lies she discovered. (these Dystopian books are always about overthrowing the government, aren’t they?)Phoebe is a strong girl, rivaling the gusto of Tris from Divergent. I loved her will to do whatever it takes just to help her family; her best friend Bear.Bear. He reminded me of Groot. I was expecting him to start refereeing to himself in third-person many times. I wish his character had been vamped up some more. I felt like he was mostly just there to interfere with Phee and Cash.Cash. Oh, boy. You can’t go wrong with a charming prince, can you? He was funny. He was sweet. He was the sexy pacer we all needed and didn’t even know it.I loved the banter between Phee and him. I longed for their times together. And maybe that’s what I loved most about Tracked. It does not revolve around the romance. It’s about family and loyalty and finding out what really matters in life. Staying true to yourself and fighting for what’s right. An adrenaline fueled, character driven adventure of a novel. Tracked is the book that you won’t want to miss this year.Review found on yabookscentral.com

She insisted I read it ASAP and challenged me to tell her it wasn't amazing. I couldn't do that. It would've been a lie.I read TRACKED shortly after my last semester ended. It had been a ROUGH semester on me and reading was a hit or miss activity. Books needed a lot to hold my attention and I couldn't put this one down. I was tearing through the pages. With YA, you generally have a decent grasp of how a story will work out because we all love our happy endings, but I wasn't sure what a happy ending would really mean for Phee and I certainly had no clue how she would get to it. So I couldn't put the book down because it would mean not knowing for a longer amount of time and that was unacceptable.I loved Phee. She was so genuine and loyal to herself and to those she loved. She was clever and badass. She just had this amazing energy to her that was magnetic for me as a reader. I could read a million stories about Phee - prequels, sequels, alternate universes, I'll read them.I also loved how skillfully Jenny Martin handled the relationships in this one. You guys know I'm a sucker for characters and relationships and this one had both in abundance. I fell in love with Cash and he had amazing chemistry with Phee, but it was Bear and Phee's relationship that I loved to watch. It was complicated and messy and I was totally enamored with Bear - but kind of the way I was enamored with Gale. I don't wanna say too much more for spoilers, but man was it gorgeously built and Jenny really balanced the two relationships SO well. There was also the really intricate world building. It's a futuristic sci-fi, so it's going to inherently require a lot of work. Then Phee is also a race car driver and, let's be real, how many YA readers are car experts? So now Jenny has to teach us about this world and cars. And on top of that, there's a very delicate political balance that comes into play and Phee is completely stuck in this complicated system, but I was never confused. Everything made sense and was well paced. It just really blew my mind how well laid out this very complex world was, especially for a debut novel.TRACKED hit all the right notes for me. Amazing main character, incredibly well built relationships, fantastic world building, and just the right amount of romance for the main character's personality. This debut was unpredictable, astounding, and has me pretty damn desperate for book 2 and everything else Jenny Martin puts out after.

I haven't read too many books that involve cars and car racing and Tracked was the perfect book to get me introduced with cars i By Kaitlin Tracked has been a book I have been meaning to get to for so long and I honestly wonder why I held it off for so long. I haven't read too many books that involve cars and car racing and Tracked was the perfect book to get me introduced with cars in the YA world. I loved the dystopian-ness of this book and also the plot and it's twists and turns that came with it. Dystopian readers who don't mind a touch of cars in their reads will definitely enjoy Tracked. When I went into this book, I was so excited to read about all the different characters that are already mentioned in the synopsis (and definitely the ones that weren't!). I love her determination when it comes to racing cars (and winning). I could really tell she loved doing what she did and that made reading this book so exciting because not only did she love racing, girly was great at it! Bear and Cash are two great characters and I would honestly love to be their friend. One guy you hate but grows on your over time and the other is, well like a teddy Bear. (HAH GEDDIT. BEAR? TEDDY BEAR? YEAH? No? okay...) Both characters were a joy to read about and I can't wait to read more about 'em!The plot is probably one of my favorite things about this book. Phee get's whisked away from her street rat life to race for this huge company and then she discovers Benroyal is not everything she has thoughthe would be and now she has this huge secret. THIS IS WHY I WANTED TO READ THIS BOOK. Such an interesting plot and I always wanted to know more about what was going on because there was always something going on and more info to find out! This dystopian world was pretty awesome as well. Hopefully Jenny will do a bit more world development in the next book because from what I have heard, it's prettyyy awesome. The ending was something I love as well because it set up Marked (book 2!) very nicely and I have an idea of what will happen! The one tiny thing that bumped my rating down was how awkward I felt about the dialogue got at some points. Overall, it was great but there were a few spots where I felt kind of awkward reading because the dialogue seemed kind of stiff and unrealistic.I gave this book 4.5 stars because I really enjoyed the characters and plot but the dialogue was a little bit awkward and stiff at some points.Full review: http://next-page-please.blogspot.com/2015/12/lets-talk-tracked-by-jenny-martin.html

Star Wars Legends Epic Collection: The New Republic By Graham Swearingen This is a collection of Dark Horse Comics that are being republished by Marvel now that they have the license back. This is near Omnibus status, 440 some odd pages of pure Star Wars comics circa the middle to late 90's, very heavy on Mara Jade stories so don't expect to see too much Han, Luke or Leia, but they are in a decent amount of the issues collected here. I like the inclusion of the original comic's covers as well. Any fan of Dark Horse's run of Star Wars comics should grab this since they're out of print from Dark Horse now. I'm hoping Marvel will reissue some of Dark Horse's run on Star Wars Tales or Clone Wars. Luckily here we get some Shadow's of the Empire issues and they're releasing volumes of the Old Republic. I know people will want the Thrawn trilogy and Dark Empire, those go for big money now that they're out of print. I'm glad that these are being produced and at a reasonable price with tons of content per volume, thanks Marvel. FULLY APPROVED.

By BlueStar This is one of the new Star Wars Legends Epic Collection TPBs in the line of Marvel’s Dark Horse reprints. This is the first volume of the New Republic books. This first TPB collects Mara Jade – By the Emperor’s Hand #0-6, Star Wars Tales #1, 15, 10, 5, Star Wars: Shadows of the Empire – Evolution #1-5, Star Wars: The Jabba Tape, Star Wars Tales #4, 3, 14, and 22, Boba Fett: Twin Engines of Destruction, and Star Wars Tales #10 and #20 in that order. The first story is about Mara Jade and introduces her background as the Emperor’s Hand and her quest to take down Black Nebula. The plot was written by Timothy Zahn so you know it was done well. The first Tales story is also a Mara Jade story when she was hunting down a target. The next two are short stories about Luke and the droids immediately after the destruction of the second Death Star.Star Wars Tales #5 has the adventures of Lando after the Death Star battle as he’s still helping the Rebels in the Millennium Falcon. Next are the five Shadows of the Empire – Evolution issues. These stories actually involve Luke and the gang a bit and entail them trying to find a human replica droid named Guri before the remnants of Black Sun get a hold of her. The art here is really good and the writing works well if you don’t know the Shadows of the Empire story but knowing it beforehand makes the story a tad bit better; especially the ending. The Jabba Tape follows with a tale of Swoop bikers trying to take what they can after Jabba’s death. However, they’ll have to battle with a member of the Hutt clan to make out with their bounty! Tales #4 takes place directly after the Jabba Tapes and has the bikers having to take down an Imperial Dark Trooper droid!Tales #3 takes a look at the life of a Gamorrean Guard after the death of Jabba the Hutt. Tales #14 moves into an Imperial tale of how exactly a bunch of cute Ewoks defeated the Empire on the forest moon of Endor. Boba Fett: Twin Engines of Destruction has the bounty hunter hunting down an imposter named Jodo Kast who is cashing in on Fett’s fame. Another story from Star Wars Tale #10 has Chewbacca jealous that Han is always hanging out with Leia instead of him now! Then in Tales #20, the book finishes off with a funny issue where Han hires some computer tech help from Endor. All in all, this feels a bit mish-mashed. Some of the stories are excellent like Mara Jade and Twin Engines of Destruction. However, they’re interspersed with all these Tales stories that are “cartoony” and provide no real story insight. Just a bunch of goofy one-off tales with poor art. The last one in the book has art akin to a newspaper comic. Shadows of the Empire: Evolution was a neat inclusion as well with great art but it still doesn’t make up for being taken out of the story by these Tales issues. Grab this book if you want to find out what everyone was up to after the second Death Star was destroyed. Otherwise, this book is entirely skippable.

This book is the true story of Oak Island. The mystery has been solved. I know that reading that statement it will be very hard to believe because, so many other writers have claimed that they have too solved it, but this book is much different. In this book you will read an amazing story, which you have never heard before regarding the Oak Island Mystery. The Author of this book is an actual descendant of the people who buried the treasures on the Island. This book proves once and for all, what Oak Island is really all about, by using a secret treasure map that was given to him by his Grandmother, which led him to find secret anagrams of Oak Island hidden in early American documents. This book paints a very dark picture about the founding of America and also proves that President George Washington in fact, had a hand in Oak Island. It also covers the never heard before, Sir Francis Bacon and the Freemasons connection. This book has been compared to The Da Vinci Code and the book Holy Blood, Holy Grail by verified readers on Amazon Books.

I'm going to recommend that you buy another book. Specifically, Shadow of a Life by the same author. It's the first book in this teen series, and I felt very disadvantaged as I read through Haven Waiting for not having read it. Haven Waiting doesn't really work as a stand-alone book; there are too many references to previous events and characters, and the mythology is difficult to understand if you haven't already got to grips with it in the first book.Having said that, Haven Waiting is a great book for teenagers. There's plenty of action and intrigue, a bit of history education disguised as story, and the fairly simple style is appropriate to the age group. I found that I really couldn't like the character of Haven. She made some very poor choices, acted selfishly, and was, at times, quiet menacing and malevolent. This added to my desire to read the first book; I deduced that Sophia, the ghost character in Shadow of a Life, was a kind and sweet character. There's an interesting juxtaposition there, and a moral question. It's all very well saving the soul of a ghost you like, but what about when it's someone selfish and foolish, like Haven? The developing romance between Jamie and Peter was sensitively handled given their ages, and I think this is something which will be interesting to follow across other books in the series. There is certainty plenty of scope in this original and well-handled concept of ghosts who need a particular teenage girl to help them move on, and there were enough intriguing hints dropped that I think readers will come back to follow Jamie's story.I very rarely give five star reviews - and this isn't one of those times - but I think the two books, read together, merit a very firm four stars.

She is a seemingly average girl who finds out she is special. She’s a soul saver—someone who helps ghosts complete their unfinished business and move on. In this book we get up close and personal with the Salem witch trials. Haven is a sixteen-year-old who was accused and hanged as a witch. But unlike the many other innocent victims of the trials, Haven really was a witch. But she was a good witch—relatively speaking. This good witch, however, did something she regretted in the last moments before she hung. And Jamie now has to fix Haven’s mistake. But fixing the problem may be the biggest and most dangerous challenge Jamie has ever faced. In fact, it will cost someone his or her life.Tifani Clark has done it again. What an amazing story!! I loved this book even more than the first book in the series. In fact, Haven Waiting is one of my favorite reads this year! Great job Tifani Clark! I look forward to many more adventures with Jamie Peters.

The characters are likable and believable, especially Haven, who drew me in from the beginning with her wit and sarcasm. As with Ms. Clark’s first book, the plot is well researched, and the addition of historical facts gives the story an added element of suspense. I will recommend this book to anyone who has an interest in YA literature.

By M I enjoyed the story in itself, reading about James Herondale, however I was dissapointed in how little we learned of Simon being at the Academy. Isn't this what this "Series" is supposed to be about? Also, the book costs too much for how short it is... however I am sure I will read the next book as well, but I hope it focuses in more on Simon.

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Ahhh James! By Healy This was such an amazing story and I am so incredibly pumped for TLH. I love James and Matthew and their relationship, it was really sweet to learn how they decided to become parabatai. I also really enjoyed the cameos from Will and Jem as well as Ragnor. Can't wait for next month!

0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Another Captivating Shadowhunter Tale! By Believer In "Nothing But Shadows" the fourth book in the Shadowhunter Academy series Simon is still struggling with his identity issues when he's told the story about the unusual friendship between James Herondale and Matthew Fairchild who become parabatai. The novella begins in 1899 when James the son of Will and Tessa Herondale, a quiet, lonely bookworm is enrolled at the Academy with the hope of making friends and eventually ascending as a Shadowhunter like his father. But nothing goes as planned for James. The plot is fast-paced and stirring as James is labelled, bullied and even faces dangers in the woods after a prank backfires. Like all of Cassandra Clare's short stories in this series "Nothing But Shadows" not only gives Simon insight into the problems that challenge the son of a renown and heroic Shadowhunter but reconnects the reader with familiar characters like Jem, Will and Tessa. In this short story Simon and young James learn to trust friends and to work out their problems, rather than running from them. And Simon even discovers that stories keep alive the memory of those thought lost forever. In this short tale Cassandra Clare creates remarkable, complex and unforgettable characters like James Herondale the young, thirteen year old who's shy, observant and distant so unlike his good-natured, charming and loving father Will. In contrast Matthew Fairchild is popular, smug and defiant, hiding his caring and considerate traits. It's their differences that attract the boys to each other and stimulates a friendship that has them becoming parabatai. I loved their friends; Thomas who's nervous in crowds because of being bossed at home by his sisters and Christopher the brilliant but absent-minded Lightwood, who's so much like Matthew's inventive but eccentric father."Nothing But Shadows" is a fascinating snapshot of a transforming event in James Herondale's life as he not only discovers his new power but a life-altering friendship while Simon learns more about acceptance and trust.

Heidi (Xist Classics), by Johanna Spyri

Amazon.com Review Johanna Spyri's classic story of a young orphan sent to live with her grumpy grandfather in the Swiss Alps is retold in it's entirety in this beautifully bound hardcover edition. Heidi has charmed and intrigued readers since it's original publication in 1880. Much more than a children's story, the narrative is also a lesson on the precarious nature of freedom, a luxury too often taken for granted. Heidi almost loses her liberty as she is ripped away from the tranquility of the mountains to tend to a sick cousin in the city. Happily, all's well that ends well, and the reader is left with only warm, fuzzy thoughts. Spryi's story will never grow wearisome--and this is a very appealing edition. --Naomi Gesinger

From Publishers Weekly This truncated retelling of orphan Heidi's simple life in the Swiss Alps and her sojourn in the big city seems almost as indebted to the Shirley Temple film as to Johanna Spyri's 1880 novel. Krupinski's (A New England Scrapbook) heroine mimics Temple, curls, button nose and all, though she lacks the actress's expressive smile and gestures. Similarly blank-faced characters contrast with Krupinski's serene, lushly idealized landscape paintings: the people seem like wax dolls, but the glowing blankets of flowers make the Alps heaven on earth. The text emphasizes the sensual joys of fresh goat's milk, fir trees "with their piney scent," Heidi's sweet-smelling bed in her grandfather's hay loft, etc., but that is its only demonstrable strength. Both Heidi's relationship with her grandfather and the idealized subplot about wheelchair-bound Klara's learning to walk are woodenly described; little space is given to dialogue and even less to Heidi's emotions. The plot, too, is severely condensed: "Many more good things happened after that day." The book succeeds as a portrayal of the joys of mountain life, but otherwise fails to do justice to Spyri's story of a girl's courage and persistence. Ages 5-9. Copyright 1996 Reed Business Information, Inc.

From School Library Journal Grade 2-3-The beloved story has been reduced to about 40 pages (fewer if you take the full-page color illustrations into account). Although this severely truncated version is accessible to much younger children than the original, reading it will not inspire anyone to seek out the full story. The brief text gives no room to develop the characters or to help youngsters appreciate Heidi's love of the mountains or the depths of her despair during her exile to the city. Beginning readers enjoy listening to the original read aloud. By fourth or fifth grade, it can be read independently. There is no need for this anemic shadow of the classic novel.Lisa Smith, Lindenhurst Memorial Library, NY Copyright 2000 Reed Business Information, Inc.

THIS REVIEW IS FOR THE PUFFIN IN BLOOM EDITION ONLY. Heidi is such an awesome story, the translation by Helen Dole reads so beautifully and engages the reader to follow closely along, to interact and enter into the adventure. This book has short sentences, as if to hand feed the reader so that they don't need to pay attention or engage. In other words- it's a dumbed-down translation!! Please don't deprive young readers of good literature! There is a place for simplified versions of books BUT that should be clear when purchasing that it isn't the original version and writing has been altered. This book changes the names of characters too. It is a travesty!! So, if all you want is a "pretty" cover - fine, but even the inside illustrations aren't good - it saddened me and I sent it back. Thank you, Amazon for ease of returns. Please be aware that Amazon sells different editions translated differently. Perhaps you'll find a new edition that is better than this one. I'm very happy with the used copy I found on Amazon with a copy write date of 1945. The illustrations are wonderful and the language is beautiful, and the names are not Americanized. The Puffin in Bloom edition has a character named Barbie.

I was sick with the flu, and I found a copy of HEIDI, so I crawled into a nice warm bed and re-read the book -- as an adult. What insight into human nature! And as an adult I appreciated the dry, understated humor. I also appreciated the spiritual insights -- that God will give us what we desire, but sometims uses circumstances we don't like to teach us truths that we couldn't learn otherwise. When I was a girl I was often turned off by what was called "good reading," but for some reason, I enjoyed Heidi and it never seemed sappy or corny.Very much worth reading!

Aldworth This review pertains to the Puffin in Bloom edition of Heidi, rather than to the literary merit of the book or translation (by Eileen Hall). The cover illustration is done by Anna Bond who may be better known for her lovely stationery collection, Rifle Paper Co. The cover is a vibrant yellow-green with the title in gold embossing over a floral-framed mountain scene. The back cover features a pull-out quote – "Heidi looked around with growing delight at the mountain peaks she knew so well and which seemed to greet her like old friends."The interior illustrations, taken from the 1956 edition of Heidi also published by Puffin, are charmingly vintage. There appears to be one illustration per chapter. The book is typeset in Minion and just the right size to be accessible to both children and adults. This edition also includes end notes with a profile of Johanna Spyri, information about Switzerland, and brief character and reading guides. This would make a special addition to any growing library.

Blankenship It is difficult for me to believe, but Arthur and the plethora of Arthur books, T.V. shows and off-shoots have been around for around 35 years now. Where does time go? I suppose it is a sign of my getting a bit long in the tooth. Anyway, it has also been at least 10 years since the last Arthur book was released, which sort of amazes me too.Now I will be quite up front and honest with you. I am not a big fan of the T.V. Arthur. Of course I am not a big fan of T.V. in general, so I suppose that is not surprising. My grandchildren, when they were the appropriate age, were fans though, which meant that I watched many of the shows along with them. But I tell you truthfully, I have been a fan of the Arthur books; right from the beginning. With this latest offering Marc Brown seems to be back in stride and I do hope there are more books to follow.Arthur's class has a project. It is called "The Big Green Machine." The project deals with the environment and all that we can do as individuals and families to conserve our natural resources. This is a good message and Brown has done it in a fashion which displays a lot of common sense and gets his message across without being preachy; no ranting here folks!Arthur's little sister, D.W. follows Arthur's investigation throughout there home, not knowing exactly what he is up to and her over active imagination goes into overdrive.Of course all turns out well in the end and some very good lessons are presented and hopefully learned. This work is ideal to read to a class and to encourage many good discussions. The text is quite readable and the art work is of Brown's usual quality. As far as I can tell, there are around 17 or 18 Arthur books out there now; not counting the series that features his sister, D.W. and others. Readers who are familiar with this series of books will note that the art work, in particular Arthur, has evolved somewhat over the years but unlike some cases where this happens, it does not distract from the work one bit. This is a nice little addition to a very beloved series.Don BlankenshipThe Ozarks

By George Buttner [[VIDEOID:mo1WGRAZQY1IW9V]]This is my first ever Amazon Video Review, in which I talk about the Arthur Adventure book "Arthur Turns Green." It's not exactly the most slick production, but hopefully you'll enjoy if you'd just like a plain review with a book of a look at the book and my honest thoughts on it.A couple of things I never got around to mentioning in the video but which you might like to know:- This book was printed in soy ink on recycled paper created from 50 percent postconsumer waste. So you aren't killing a tree simply by purchasing the book, instead, it actually supports what it says.- The style of the artwork has evolved somewhat since the last Arthur adventures. It doesn't look so much like the TV series - it returns to a somewhat more unique style with more detail, reminiscent of some of the earlier Arthur Adventure books, but still with the more evolved look for the characters.- The back cover features a number of the older Arthur Adventure books with a new appearance for their cover artwork - it appears they recently reissued a number of these titles with new cover artwork. That's all! For my full thoughts on the book itself, watch the video.

A Wonderful Book To Teach Kids about Going Green By Mundie Moms & Mundie Kids Book Reviews Arthur's class is working on class project called the "Big Green Machine." Each student comes up with an idea on how they can make the earth greener and then they will present it at their school's family night. D.W. starts to get concerned for Arthur when he comes home from school with green fingers, and she notices him doing weird things around the house, like recycling, turning off the lights, adding plants to the rooms, unplugging items not in use etc. She things a big green machine is going to get him.Once D.W. learns what Arthur has been working on, and why it's called the "Big Green Machine" her fears disappear, and she becomes excited when she sees all the ways she can help around the house to make it greener. Arthur Turns Green is a fabulous way to teach kids about the things they can do around their homes to be greener. This book is a great addition to any home or grade school class room.

Martha has a comfortable, satisfying life with her partner, Gabe, a gentle American academic. Her two daughters, from a previous relationship, are now both adult. Jo, ambitious and independent, is pursuing a career as a barrister. Jo’s younger sister is very different. Shelley, just 20, sweet natured, trusting and innocent, still lives at home and works at a local animal clinic. They are a normal, happy family - and then Shelley meets Sam on the street and everything changes. Martha struggles to accept Shelley’s choice of boyfriend as, with increasing anger, she witnesses the erosion of all Shelley’s values under Sam’s influence. When Martha’s efforts to persuade Shelley to give Sam up fail, she decides on a more direct approach. The consequences of her actions are devastating for everyone and change the course of Martha’s life forever. “After I’d gone up to bed that night, leaving Gabe amidst the carnage I had created in the living room, I formulated my plan. But it was pure chance that I met Sam on Putney Bridge some three weeks later and I went ahead with it.”

I really got the sense of the challenges that face some parents and, of course, young folk. We can all relate I hope to the lapses in judgment that afflicted Martha, blinded as she was by her mothering/parenting instinct. The consequence in this story was tragic and painful, though not total, as some recovery became possible. I think that's a good nuance.I do think the story has the potential for a deeper dive (novel vs novella), as there is a lot more on the emotional and psychological sides that could be mined. I am reminded of Colm Tóibín's writing, as I think of that.

By Mary Grand/Free to Be Tegan What a wonderful book, I was up late last night reading,i could not put it down. It is deeply moving and thought provoking, and at the same time highly readable. Very well constructed characters and obviously written with great underastanding and insight into the problems they face. I understand a second novel is soon to be published by this author, can't wait!

Number 4 continues the barking bonkers fun - this may be my favorite so far By Pop Bop The truth is that this series keeps getting better, and that's lemon meringue. It's a rollicker and a frolicker, you little nibbleheads. Polly and Friday and Alan Taylor and Jake the Dog are always saving the Town of Lamonic Bibber from evil Mr. Gum and Billy William the Third. Shabba me whiskers, but this is exciting stuff. It's silly, but not dumb. It's inventive, but not obscure. It's shrewd, but not condescending. It's dry, but not with that odd Dahl aftertaste. And for my little ones, it has been engaging, amusing, and very popular. They can be avant-garde before they're kindergarde. So, if you've been waiting for post-modern to reach pre-school, here it is.

Journal Entry August 10, 1934 by Henry Clayland: Sweetheart, we had a very enjoyable walk and talk tonight. Afterwards we went over and sat at the feet of old Serenity in Euclid Park. Remember, dear, I bought you a bouquet of gladiolas as a token of my love. Love never dies, heaven touches earth, adversities nourish knowledge and wisdom, poverty is cruel, parenthood is intrinsic; and a national monument makes a statement. In 1934 Grace photographed her favorite statue, a national monument named Serenity: the Statue of Friendship. Throughout the decades Serenity's destruction, caused by vandals, parallels the adversities of Grace's five motherless children. The Clayland family carries the burden of the message. Destruction in the Clayland family comes just as it comes to many families struggling to make everything right in a world full of mistrust, selfishness, and defiance. Social injustice weighs heavily upon Henry, the widower and Derek, his divorced son. You will observe a motorist driving through time observing the landscape of the story. The first chapter is a flash-back to the 40’s. Derek, the main character, is introduced in the beginning of the story and becomes the focus of the family drama. As an adult Derek will defy social norms and embrace an unconventional lifestyle: polygamy “Under the light of the moon, the cast of the stars, the brilliance of what the sun offered, Serenity experienced the decades upon the stationary spot that her government assigned her. She tried to remain true to her mission of friendship. Histories unfolded before her while she remained stalwart in her fortitude. Within the walls of her surroundings, upon the carpet of her world, she witnessed the corruption of new generations. She was there when the promises were broken. She was there through the wars and the rumors of wars. She was there through the demise of everything that was once beautiful and good. She saw the beauty of her surroundings decay: the beauty of the world that was meant to be. Throughout the years and the turning of the seasons, Serenity became despondent. Her uninviting embrace, her trampled face, her torn arm, and her tattered gown became the ensign of everything wrong that once was right. The little children no longer climbed upon her lap. They turned their faces away in fear: A lady is supposed to have a clean face, and a washed gown without scribbles all over it. She is supposed to have a nose, and two hands, not one. The Clayland family attempts to adhere to the principles of their Mormon faith as they challenge parenthood and poverty. Serenity suffers and becomes symbolic of hope for Restoration of Family. To see photos of Serenity's destruction years 1996, 1999, 2001, 2002, 2013, 2014 2015: www.atthefeetofserenity.net. A true story as perceived by the author, Eve Gwartney. Names and places have been renamed.

By Amazon Customer This book is based on a true story of children who lost their mother, yet endured. We live in a society that expects instant answers, and yet the Clayland family lived at a time when there were no answers. This is an inspiring account of children growing up in chaos and turmoil, and adults who could not see beyond their own sorrows to fully understand the children. It is a tribute to the resiliency of the human spirit, the drive to survive and thrive. I could not put it down.

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Compelling story parallels the destruction of modern day artifacts By Anonymous The author effectively personified the statue "Serenity" and compares her destruction to the breakdown of family in society. A small amount of Mormon doctrine is exposed which makes thoughts and actions of some of the characters understandable. The story will take you on an emotional rollercoaster, so be prepared with plenty of tissues to wipe away your tears!

0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. The author has a knack for sharing a view through a camera lens with words about her life. By Susan Noel I related to the author's experience of loss of mother and family turmoil. Her father's grief consumed him; five children to care for overwhelming him. Serenity, the statue, was real, but serenity in life not so easily obtained. The resilience of the author and her siblings comes through her words. Cathartic? Probably. Understanding? In maturity of life an understanding of her step-mother, father, and their influences became more easily accepted. Love? Definitely at times. Anger? Most definitely.....at death, circumstances. The author has a knack for sharing a view through a camera lens with words about her life.
