About the Author I was born in Utah, but grew up in Flagstaff, Arizona and St. Louis, Missouri, the fifth of seven children. I attended Southern Virginia University and Brigham Young University, where I studied English and Theater. I now live in Idaho with my husband and four children. I have Charlotte Brontë to thank for the courage to write novels. After being bombarded with assigned reading about women who justified abandoning either their families or their principles in the name of love, I had the great fortune of reading Jane Eyre. And that was it: finally, a heroine who understood that being moral and making the right choice was hard, and sometimes it hurt, but it was still worth it. After rereading it several years later, I realized that if I wanted more books to exist with the kinds of heroines I admired, then I might as well write a few myself. My books are about women who face hard choices, who face pain and rejection and often have to face the reality of sacrificing what they want for what is right. The consequences are often difficult or unpleasant, but in the end, doing what’s right will always be worth it. I believe there is no substitute for good writing or good chocolate. Fortunately, one often leads to the other.

It was a beautifull story about a young women growing up and finding strength, healing, and love after domestic abuse. READ THE AUTHORS NOTE AT THE BEGINNING. I'm super picky when it comes to plot and character development and this author never lets me down! Marilee's story stands alone while still being perfectly intertwined with her sister's (in Just Ella, and Missing Lily). It feels raw, real and believable without being dark. I can't wait to read it again! It is so much more than just a beautiful love story. (less)

If you've never read her books before, rest assured that "Saving Marilee" is just as wonderful as her others! (Although I might recommend reading "Just Ella" and "Missing Lily" first, so you can enjoy seeing them in this book as well!). I truly appreciated how the author approached this story -Marilee's perspective, and her growth, take you an an incredible emotional journey. I'll straight out admit that there were certain parts that truly touched me, and I may have (ahem) cried a little.Marilee starts out with the death of her abusive husband, and begins an emotional journey of healing and learning to trust again. She is such a strong character. I really liked her as the protagonist. I loved the development as well. Marilee didn't just snap her fingers and become her old self or immediately heal from her pain -it took time.Honestly, I could go on for quite a while about this wonderful book, but my biggest suggestion would be to quickly grab a copy for yourself and enjoy the journey!

Another brilliant offering By pickyreader Since I found Just Ella, I've waited impatiently for Annette's book releases and pounced on my kindle the moment they were live. I've loved her first two books, and Saving Marilee was another brilliant offering. I loved how well Annette captured Marilee's psyche as a result of her harsh experiences. Everything she did and felt seemed completely true and natural for her character. I appreciated how her mistreatment was touched on without graphic depictions and descriptions making me extremely uncomfortable. I really admire Annette's way with words. Some of her passages were downright poetic and left me- a green, aspiring author- rather envious of her talent. I will say this book lacked some of the drama and strength of climax that her first two possessed. Overall, the story felt more gently, emotionally tugging rather than poignantly aching as I experienced with the others. However, I felt that was appropriate given Marilee's journey and the subject of recovery. I highly recommend Saving Marilee and will continue to return for anything Ms. Larsen releases.
