NEW ENGLAND WITCH CHRONICLES is the first book in the four-book bestselling young adult series. The Salem Witch Trials of 1692 were an embarrassing stain on America’s revered past. Innocent people were persecuted at the hands of a few overzealous Puritans, but what if real witches existed during those colonial hunts? What if there are witches in present day New England? That’s what Alexandria Ramsey’s crazy grandmother believes. Grandma Claudia claims Alex descends from a long line of New England witches. Modern day witches in Hazel Cove, Massachusetts? Unlikely, but strange things are occurring in the weeks preceding Alex’s seventeenth birthday. Alex is haunted by bizarre recurring nightmares of a man chasing her through the Hazel Cove Cemetery. On a few occasions, when her emotions have spiraled out of control, inanimate objects have shattered around her. But that’s just a coincidence, right? Alex isn’t so sure, especially after a local girl, who supposedly dabbled in witchcraft, was killed in the nearby forest. Alex knows something strange is happening. With the arrival of a new boy in town, James Van Curen, who is causing problems between Alex and her best friend, Peter, Alex feels like her entire world is on the verge of chaos. Could Alex really be a witch? Is it possible Hazel Cove will become a battleground for modern-day witches and witch hunters?

Author Has Potential but Book was Lacking By Polly The author has done a good job in transitioning through the story smoothly without having to describe a lot of things to prepare the reader for the shift, but I found the overall book to be average. It may be more appealing to young adults. With more experience, I think this author has potential. It was difficult to grasp the author's intention for the persona of the main character. She would alternate between weak and whiny (most of the time), to strong-willed...to a point, then would buckle under any amount of pressure. The doting she received from two male characters often reminded me of the Twilight series and was a bit stomach-churning. There were several times when I felt the main character was acting "out of character", but then again, I had a difficult time trying to figure out exactly what her character was really supposed to be. I was unable to "like" her at any point. In general, the story was a bit flat and predictable. Reading was an unemotional experience. I felt there were times when the author began to introduce a concept, as if it were meant to lead to something later, but it didn't. I was also hoping there would be more history woven in, especially as it relates to the Salem Witch Trials. There are a large number of glaring editing errors, but generally speaking, the book was not a bad read. I look forward to more from this author as she progresses in her talents.

And when I say hooked, I really mean it. I could not put the book down! I read it all in one sitting. New England Witch Chronicles is well written, interesting, and it flows really well. I was sucked right into the story and I loved every second of it.Alex, or Lex, is a really likable character. She was loyal and strong willed. Her loyalty was what I liked the most about her. I have seen one too many flaky main characters in the past year, and it was starting to annoy me. These flaky flakerson characters see a cute guy and leave their friends/current bf/long time love interest in the dust. But not Lex, no she was loyal as loyal can be. I loved that about her.I also really liked both guys in the story. Peter is so awesome! He was always there for Lex. I want Peter for myself! He is just so cute, and such a good friend to Lex. And while James was nice and hot and not nearly as annoying as Lex initially thought, it was always Peter that I was rooting for. I never disliked James though, so that should make for an interesting dynamic in future books.I loved how Chelsea described the manifestation of Lex's powers. The whole lights episodes reminded me of Spellbound by Cara Lynn Shultz. I can't wait to find out more about the history of witches in the next book. I can't wait to find out a lot of things in the next book! This series is going to be amazing! This has been one of my favorite books that I have read in a long time! It is definitely making my top in 2011 book list! I cannot wait to get my hands on the next book. It has favorite series potential written all over it :) Get a copy of this book! Seriously, you should have ordered it yesterday!

The book had a lot of suspense and reads quickly. Yes, there are grammatical errors if you are the type that is easily disturbed by that. I am looking forward to reading the next book in the series.

It combines a great story, adorable illustrations, and unique animals, such as the jackal and the numbat. My class loved it when I projected the book so that they could all follow along and enjoy the artwork as I read. The text is delightful and not predictive, so young ones will love to hear and learn new words while older children will enjoy the challenge of reading this on their own. This is a a great gift, as children can revisit it often as they grow up.

Not only are the illustrations adorable, but it tells a story as well.I won't spoil the story for you, but with poetry and creative illustrations, Ana Davis has a winner here. Be sure to find your little ones--or borrow one if you have to--and enjoy reading this book today.

ABC Party Animals By EuropedsPT This children's book is absolutely charming in so many ways: from the jaunty rhyming scheme to the artwork to the surprise animals. My grandson loves it and it is sure to be an oft-times requested favourite by the little person in your family. A wonderful writer and artist

The Shark's Tooth is a poetic tale of imagination and conservation in which a young girl visiting her grandparents' beach house finds friendship with the ocean's creatures. Sharks' teeth are given to her by her new aquatic friends as gifts, symbolic of her connections to nature and the sea. As the little girl grows up and moves away to the city, she loses her kinship to the natural world. When she returns to the beach house as an adult, she is convinced that her childhood memories were only acts of make-believe--until she receives a sign that her ocean adventures may have been real after all.The Shark's Tooth is the first children's book written by New York Times best-selling author Ron Rash. Cecile L. K. Martin's colorful cut-paper illustrations complement the story, and novelist and children's author Mary Alice Monroe provides an engaging afterword on the story's empowering message of creativity and conservation.

Set in the colonial era, Midnight Whispers is, quite simply, a beautifully written love story with a historical context and laced with action, adventure and comedy. Central to the story is the relationship between Cathrynn and Duncan, a relationship that quickly evolves from owner-servant into friendship and, ultimately, love. Many authors might have felt the need to force this process along, but Lynette Marie's characters are so real and well developed that they carry the story along with only the slightest of effort. This is the mark of a talented author. Marie's style of prose is quite captivating. She has a great sense of her characters' motivations, needs and behaviors and portrays them with great sensitivity. Although Midnight Whispers is bound to appeal to any fan of classic romance, it has enough plot twists, action and humor to engage any fan of great storytelling.

She is rescued by Duncan McKleighan, Earl of Willoughby, who is in need of a wife. Cathrynn agrees to wed him and they soon depart for England.Cathrynn grows to love her new husband. The sound of his Scottish accent was a joy for her to hear. Yet for the last ten years Duncan's life had been miserable under the verbal and mental abuse of his English grandfather. Therefore, Duncan guards his heart and trusts no one easily, including his new bride. It is up to Cathrynn to find a way to make Willoughby Manor into a warm home for its mater, instead of the dark dungeon it seems to be. During that time, Cathrynn will make new friends, learn about Duncan's secret past, and help him move forward.**** I found the first quarter of this book to be a bit unbelievable. The slave master relented way too easily, the heroine acted like a wimp, and Duncan's alter ego (as a pirate) could have been totally omitted. Yet once the main couple settled in Willoughby Manor, things became very interesting. The heroine showed her claws and began standing up for herself, as well as, for the hero. The author does not go into details on the scenery at all, so I never felt the dirt and grime that must have been in the air at the docks of Virginia. I never saw or heard any animals (except a mention or two of riding the horses to some place), now smelled the wondrous aromas of the flowers that abounded in the Manor's garden. However, the author did an outstanding job on giving each character their own personality! I could not help but like the shipmates Dale and Ian. And Lady Ambrosia's outrageous and colorful clothing styles often stole the show! All-in-all, I found this to be a very entertaining story. ****

Review "[Of Masks And Chromes] is the first episode of a series simple and straightforward in its unraveling, enjoyable...the story is there. The idea of the book is interesting and history does not lack real examples of this such as the Whites against Blacks in medieval Tuscany..." - Davide Dotto, scrittevolmente.it "A plot line that keeps you predicting with some surprising twists. Even when you can predict correctly, the resultant outcome is surprising. Characterization is flawless as one hardly realizes it's being done. There are certainly several relevant themes at play. Thumbs up. I'm getting them all." - Kindle Reviewer"Skin color matters... mask color matters... a refreshing look at racial prejudice, and just how arbitrary and artificial it actually is." - Goodreads Reviewer"The world-building was superb, the suspense built deliciously, and at the risk of giving away more spoilers, I'll just say my only disappointment was that it ended too soon." - Kindle Reviewer"I wanted to find some words to describe this book but it left me speechless. I loved it , the plot, the idea was one of the most inspiring to me, I wish there were more books like this." - Goodreads Reviewer "Very different story - I started it and didn't put it down until the end. Will defintely read Book 2 to see what happens to Asheva next." - Goodreads Reviewer

4 of 4 people found the following review helpful. Read start to finish in one go! By lisa I loved this book - It's not usually the kind of genre I would usually read but an old collegaue pointed it out to me - and I just couldn't put it down. From the first page I was drawn into the hero's (Asheva's) world, which was extremely vivid and easy to visualize. I think this is one of the main reasons I found it so engrossing: I could very clearly imagine the settings, the characters, and the striking chromatic world - they sort of lept off the page and drew you in. It reminds me of a mix between Game of Thrones and Pillars of the Earth. There is something for everyone here, engrossing sophisticated plots, GREAT characters (male and female), really good messages on many levels without being simplistic (about human nature, politics, war, freedom, morality, good vs evil), action, suspense, adventure...I am in my 40's but this has a bit of a Harry Potter wide age appeal, with a main audience I imagine around 13 to late twenties. I sent the first book to my two godsons who are 13 and 14, and a friend's son who is 16, and of the two who have read it so far, they absolutely loved it (and apparently are talking about it with their friends - it would be nice to have a print version so they could exchange with friends). I will definitely be sending them the next books as well!

The cover caught my eye, and the book description hooked me enough to download and start reading. The world opens intriguingly. Everyone is identified by their Chrome or the color of their essence. 14yr old Asheva is of the Black Chrome clan. We join Asheva as his father takes him to an execution, and the pace doesn't slow down. A war is declared, family and friends die, and within the space of a few chapters, Asheva commits a crime and becomes a fugitive. The world-building was superb, the suspense built deliciously, and at the risk of giving away more spoilers, I'll just say my only disappointment was that it ended too soon. 4 out of 5 stars.Check out my other reviews on http://kwmccabe.org/interviews

The writing is very uneven: pretty good in some places, cringingly vague and awful in others. Overall, it's about an 8th-grade reading level. They should have marketed these as children's fiction, it definitely isn't "adult"-level material. Nevertheless, for idle reading, it's alright. And it's only $2.99 per installment.
