About the Author Amy Dixon grew up as one of seven siblings, and the only peace and quiet she ever got was inside a book. Once she had her own kids, she rediscovered her love for picture books at the public library. It was the one place she knew all four of her kids would be happy . . . and quiet. She is the author of Marathon Mouse. She writes from her home, where she lives with her four little inspirations and her marathon-running husband in Clovis, California.Katia Wish is a children’s book illustrator. She is the winner of the 2011 Tomie dePaola Award from the Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators. In addition to illustrating children’s books, Katia teaches illustration at the Massachusetts College of Art and Design, and her work has been exhibited in galleries throughout New England. She resides in Boston, Massachusetts.

Not great, but okay.The illustrations are well done in a wide pallet of muted colors. So it's visually soft and calming.I liked the concept of a girl who could draw anything and have it become as real as her imagination could make it. I am a big fan of anything that encourages unchecked imagination.The story changes dramatically from a room full of animals all uncomfortable about being in a small room for various reasons. Then they go outside and meet another child who doesn't serve much of a purpose. Then they have a parade. Then the end. There is no consistent story arc, lesson to be learned, or any real closure to the book. That general method of story telling can break two ways. One one hand the book reads like the random flow of a child's imagination, which is a good thing. On the other hand it's nice to have a book where there is an actual story that a kid can follow and understand.To me, this book was okay. I got it from the library and don't regret it. But I wouldn't go out of my way to get it again. My daughter liked it, but mostly for the illustrations which again are very well done.
0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Such a Cute Book! By Living a Fit and Full Life Sophie's Animal Parade is an adorable book about a young girl named Sophie with a wild imagination. Everything Sophie draws comes to life. Sophie is lonely so she draws lots of animals and soon has a room full of animal friends. She ushers them all outside and once outside meets a little boy who loves animals just as much as she does. The little boy says he's a great lion tamer so of course Sophie draws him a lion to tame. Sophie and the little boy become friends over their love for animals and she is no longer lonely because she has a true friend. I like that the book teaches children that real relationships are what matter. My daughter has several imaginary friends so this book really hit home with her. The Illustrator has done a wonderful job of bringing this book to life with beautiful illustrations on every page. This is a wonderful book for children aged 3-5, however my 7 year old enjoyed this book every bit as much as my younger children. Thus begins the charming tale of Sophie, the little girl with the magic pencils who creates scrumptious foods, cozy places to rest and snuggly apparel to don when she feels cold. Then she takes her wizardly ways to a whole new level and starts creating animal friends to keep her company when she is feeling lonely. She thinks it would be fun to host a tea party and of course all her animals are invited. First she conjures up a cute baby polar bear who is way too hot in her room, then a duck who isn't interested in playing hide-and-seek but just wants to swim, a giraffe who gets a pain in his neck because the room is way too short for his tallness.... and on and on and on..... So much chaos ensues that Sophie's only alternative is to take her brood outdoors where she encounters a strange boy and they hit it off immediately. Together they bring order out of the bedlam and became fast friends to boot. Now Sophie imagines in two's. How sweet!
