It starts with the breakdown; twenty years together. It ends breaking free, into new life.

Poet Tamara Mendelson charts her divorce cycle in Divorce Poetry: Breaking Free, A Soul-Healing Journey Through the Five Stages of Divorce. She shares her raw emotions and bitter truths learned, such as the meaning of “forever”.

From breaking down to breaking free, each of the five sections includes poetry intended for people going through their own emotional tidal waves.

Mendelson never expected to divorce. What was to last forever, lasted seventeen years. Rather than settling for a loveless marriage, she made the decision to leave. Luckily for readers, she reengaged life with poetry as part of her healing process, and has discovered that others have suffered like she did.

Here she presents readers with her book of verse, expressing how to be with and endure their pain to find peace. Much light is found at the end of her journey, and with each poem, she helps readers find their own.

A Poetic Good Friend to Help You Through Divorce By AvidReader Mendelson describes the five stages of divorce -- Breakdown, Breakup, Broken, Breakthrough, Break Free -- with her grounded, human, and empathic poetry in way that speaks to anyone who has been through a divorce, or even observed a loved one who has gone through the experience. The pain, sadness, sense of loss, anger, longing, and love is all laid out in her poetry.with clarity and humanity. A good gift for someone who is going through the experience that I would not wish upon my worst enemy. Thanks for putting the feelings to paper, and sharing.

A great book of poetry and healing for anyone who has been divorced By Jay Stanton A new and refreshing approach guiding the reader through the emotional stages of grief associated with divorce. I appreciated the poetry as expression, as opposed to other books that I have read that feel more like text books. Since the author is a female I worried about a gender bias, but as a man I still found it very interesting and useful in processing my own feelings about my recent divorce. I recommend this book to anyone who still has any feelings about their divorce (recent or remote).

Tamara attended one of my writing retreats in Carmel-by-the-Sea and every time she read one of her divorce poems aloud, I'd get so excited, grab it from her, and tell her she HAD to get this book finished. She has the most amazing ability to summarize every stage of emotion while going through the toughest time many of us will ever face. And her writing leaves us feeling optimistic about the future. This book is a treasure!
