The AmerIcan Dream is at once an inspiring account of a young mans journey from defendant to defense attorney, a window into the inner workings of one of Miami s most notorious drug rings, and a chilling portrait of the streets that Americas poverty-stricken youth call home. The hood is an addiction. An addiction that pulls as seductively and fiercely as the drugs hustled on its streets. And living in it is a daily exercise in survival. Raised impoverished in the streets of Miami, David Lee Windecher was only eleven years old when he was arrested for shoplifting. It didn't seem like a big deal at the time, deciding to take what he believed he deserved. But that was the beginning for David. That was the day he started thinking like a hustler. He could stop waiting for the scales to tip in his favor. He could stop going without. He could take what life denied him. And he did. For the next seven years, David fought bitterly against his circumstances at the side of his gang-affiliate brothers. It began with selling dope to help his family eat, but pulled into the dark, seductive life of violence, drugs, money, and notoriety David lost himself to the game. Before he turned eighteen, he had built and masterminded a crime ring, had been arrested thirteen times, and fought daily wars against rival gangs and dirty cops. But deep inside of David, an idealistic boy still dreamed of becoming an attorney and fighting for justice despite race. He was just waiting for someone to believe he existed.

It is a powerful story of a young man that had the wrong cards delt to him, but with the support of a good family, perseverance and will to never give up, was able to turn his life around and become a productive member of society. It takes you into the mindset of a gangster and gave me a perspective on life that I would have never been able to achieve on my own. Every American, especially those that have have run-ins with the law, should be required to read this book. It is beautifully written and made me feel that I actually was a gang member, living in Miami, hustling my way through life. Anyone that has ever said "I cant " about anything needs to read this book. There were moments I cried, cheered, cursed, but mostly felt an overwhelming sense of pride towards the main character in this book, David- who time and time again gets knocked down but keeps getting back up.I would not be surprised if this book makes it on the NY Times best-seller list.

It is truly amazing to see how God moved and molded David into the man that he is today. I read the book in 1 day! Once I started, I couldn't stop reading. I have faced David in the courtroom, so I knew how the story was going to end. But it was a blessing for me to see how he did not let anything defeat him. Not his friends, circumstances, obstacles, poor decisions, or even himself. There are so many people out there who have not been able to overcome obstacles similar to those that David overcame. I pray that David uses his gifts and his testimony to be an agent of positive change. He does not have to do it alone. Buy the book. Read the book. Share the book. Much respect DLW.-Christian

A Brilliant, Inspiring Story Everyone Can Benefit From By John A Faber At a quick glance, David Lee Windecher’s book, “The AmerIcan Dream: HisStory in the Making," seems to be like any of our culture’s great “rags-to-riches” narratives. From empire-building Oprah Winfrey’s early childhood years of wearing potato sack dresses, to coffee tycoon Howard Schultz growing up in the projects, to billion-dollar hairstylist mogul John Paul Deojoria living in his car, Windecher’s book would appear to have all the ingredients of another classic “feel good” story. And yet, there is so much more in terms of grit, character, and depth to this book. The first half of Windecher’s saga descriptively portrays the early part of his life growing up in the “hood." From stealing cars, to selling drugs, to gangsta fights, to mere survival, the reader becomes well-acquainted with this time in North Miami Beach. The second half of the book focuses on Windecher’s personal change from “rule-breaking thug” to “law-abiding attorney.” The metamorphosis was anything but easy. Moreover, the essence of “transformation” would not even come close to the will power it took for Windecher to become the man he is today. It is my hope that this book will not become shelved in public libraries or lost in the digitized world of the cloud. “The AmerIcan Dream” will make a wonderful high school English book to teach the principles of justice, resilience, and transcendence. God Bless America for giving David Lee Windecher the opportunity of a lifetime. May he continue to make this world a better place. I highly suggest you read this book. You will not be disappointed!
