I don't know if it was the characters, the setting, the plot or the pace but nothing clicked with me. Mechanically the writing was fine and the mystery was established within the first few pages. The problem was it just didn't hook me. I read on but in pieces sandwiched between reading other books.

I like to have a book that I can complete over a weekend, even when I'm a bit busy. These shorter novellas fit the bill and I really am liking this series of culinary murder mysteries. It's fun to get to know these characters and enjoy the ride as we're thrust into the murder mystery. I don't want to give anything away, but "Aunt Mel" is again implemented in a murder despite being a stand-up citizen of the community and doing the best she can as a small business owner and summer caretaker to her nephew Logan. The murder this time involves Logan a bit more closely and we see him developing with his relationship with young Emily and also there's some progress made with he and his workaholic dad's relationship. I like how things have progressed on the home front so to speak, but of course the murder mystery and solving it before it's too lake is also part of the fun! Hope you enjoy it too! I'm going to grab book three now and see what's next!

However, this time I enjoyed how the story continues, obviously, and how Melissa is again thrust into a new murder mystery. I like how her relationship with her nephew Logan and Jason the dectective has developed. It's nice to see that the book isn't about the murder mystery alone. I also appreciated the young love which is part of this story with Logan and Emily dating amid a mysterious death affecting both their families. What can I say I enjoyed this book and appreciated that it wasn't too long and that I could read it over a weekend.
