The First Book in The Medoran Chronicles "...an engaging book...elements of the Harry Potter saga, the Narnia chronicle and the X-men franchise, but they fit neatly into the story and, when it comes to sheer inventiveness, the book would satisfy any fantasy devotee...For all teenagers who dream of other worlds and the extraordinary experiences they might find in them, this book is recommended." - Sydney Arts Guide "Entertaining, magical, and positively delightful, Lynette Noni's Akarnae is a very promising introduction to the Medoran Chronicles. The possibilities are endless for Akarnae, and fantasy fans will surely not want to miss reading this YA debut. Alex's adventures in Medora are just beginning and I can't wait to follow her journey in the sequel!" - Midnight Blooms Reads “The only problem I had with this book is that I couldn’t sit down and just read it—it was that good—and escape into another world entirely. Fans of Harry Potter or The Chronicles of Narnia, will dive right into to this story of a charming trio, of the girl who is fighting to save a world she is not truly part of, and an Academy that has its own charm. Medora is now one of my favorite fictional worlds, and just like Alex, I can’t wait to return." - A Leisure Moment The first of the five-part MEDORAN CHRONICLES offers a new slant on magical parallel worlds – it’s Harry Potter meets X-Men, with a twist of Narnia. With just one step, 16-year-old Alex Jennings's world changes - literally. Dreading her first day at a new school, Alex is stunned when she walks through a doorway and finds herself stranded in Medora, a fantasy world full of impossibilities. Desperate to return home, she learns that only Professor Marselle can help her... but he's missing. While waiting for him to reappear, Alex attends Akarnae Academy, Medora's boarding school for teenagers with extraordinary gifts. She soon starts to enjoy her bizarre new world and the friends who embrace her as one of there own, but strange things are happening at Akarnae, and Alex can't ignore her fear that something unexpected... something sinister... is looming. An unwilling pawn in a deadly game, Alex's shoulders bear the crushing weight of an entire race's survival. Only she can save the Medorans, but what if doing so prevents her from ever returning home? Will Alex risk her entire world... and maybe even her life - to save Medora?

Awesome Book By Jalynn Patterson Akarnae (The Medoran Chronicles, #1)About the Book:With just one step, sixteen-year-old Alexandra Jennings's world changes--literally.Dreading her first day at a new school, Alex is stunned when she walks through a doorway and finds herself stranded in Medora, a fantasy world full of impossibilities. Desperate to return home, she learns that only a man named Professor Marselle can help her... but he's missing. While waiting for him to reappear, Alex attends Akarnae Academy, Medora's boarding school for teenagers with extraordinary gifts. She soon starts to enjoy her bizarre new world and the friends who embrace her as one of their own, but strange things are happening at Akarnae, and Alex can't ignore her fear that something unexpected... something sinister... is looming. An unwilling pawn in a deadly game, Alex's shoulders bear the crushing weight of an entire race's survival. Only she can save the Medorans, but what if doing so prevents her from ever returning home? Will Alex risk her entire world--and maybe even her life--to save Medora?About the Author:Lynette Noni grew up on a farm in outback Australia until she moved to the beautiful Sunshine Coast and swapped her mud-stained boots for sand-splashed flip-flops. She has always been an avid reader and most of her childhood was spent lost in daydreams of far-off places and magical worlds. She was devastated when her Hogwarts letter didn't arrive, but she consoled herself by looking inside every wardrobe she could find, and she's still determined to find her way to Narnia one day. While waiting for that to happen, she creates her own fantasy worlds and enjoys spending time with the characters she meets along the way.My Review: Alexandra Jennings was sent to boarding school while her parents were busy studying under a famous archeologist. Upon arriving at the school she believed that she was suppose to attend, she enters the wrong door and upon doing so apparently finds a portal to another world. The first person she comes across is a young man about her age, her first thoughts were that he was a tad bit strange. Aven, the strange guy disappears into the foliage but not too soon she is able to befriend two boys with special powers by the names of Jordan and Bear. After becoming enrolled into the Academy of Arkarnae for gifted children, Alex discovers that there is more to the land of Medora than she could of ever known. Life at the Academy becomes somewhat routine. Routine that is until Aven appears and Alex feels that he is up to no good. By the end of the book you will find out just what he is up to. I read this book cover to cover, I enjoyed every single second of it! I can't wait for the next in the series! Alex is a very fully developed character and going on this journey with her was a pleasure! I am not a fan of Harry Potter so to me the book was similar to the Chronicles of Narnia coupled with X-Men. I loved it!!!**Disclosure** This book was sent to me free of charge for my honest review from the publisher.

Then i thought; how do I even pronounce this?Akarnae was recommended to me by a friend so I picked it up. As soon as I got into the first three chapters I knew this book was going to be pretty special.Alexandra Jennings is dropped off at a boarding school, while her archaeological parents go on a important work trip. As soon as Alex arrives she knows that the following eight months were going to be interesting. That was before she walked through a door and ended up in a place by the name of Medora. Alex is thrust into a strange fascinating world with little knowledge of where she is. And the only person who can help her, Professor Marselle, has disappeared. Two boys, Jordan and Bear, instantly befriend her and slowly she's told about the strange but fascinating world. With no way of getting home, Alex joins Akarnae Academy, thrown into strange and new experiences.Alex quickly becomes accustomed to the world of Medora, her friends, weird teachers and classes that challenge her to the brink of exhaustion. Then strange things start happening including the reoccurrence of a guy, mysteriously appearing and disappearing at random times, holding a secret Alex is afraid to find out.Soon Alex finds herself in situations that test her, with the threat of danger to people she cares about and the world she grew to love. This book was so spellbinding, inspirational, memorable and amazingly magical! I am anticipating the next four books in this incredible series. Alex and her friends will make you laugh, Lynette Noni's writing new and captivating.A must read for fantasy lovers!

A good beginning By Ionia Froment 3.5 StarsAn imaginative book with great characters--that sadly kept reminding me of other books.Don't get me wrong, this isn't a copy of any other books, it is just that some of the concepts seemed very similar and my mind automatically wanted to draw up Harry Potter or Narnia, so it made it difficult for me to appreciate this story and these characters. The author has done a good job of making likeable characters and giving them personalities individual of one another. It was easy to keep them apart and I'm sure that kids will enjoy this book. The descriptions are fantastic. There is a bit of repeat information that could have been curtailed in some spots, but overall I found this to be an enjoyable read. As this is going to be a series, it will be interesting to see where the author goes with it.I liked it, for the most part. This review is based on a complimentary copy from the publisher. All opinions are my own.
