From School Library Journal PreS-K—Willis takes six traditional rhymes and gives them a new twist by successfully rescuing each character through the arrival of the nursery-rhyme ambulance. "Here comes the ambulance! It's on its way./Who's had an accident in Storyland today?/Driver, put your foot down. Don't waste time./This is an Emergency Nursery Rhyme." It rescues a cow that has tripped over the moon, Rock-a-bye Baby in a compost heap, and even manages to put the shattered Humpty Dumpty together again using jam and bread. Stewart's mixed-media cartoon illustrations are done in a cheerful palette and have a child-friendly quirkiness. Children would need to be familiar with the original rhymes to appreciate the parodies, but hopefully they would be. Fixing the Fractures of Nursing Rhymes By tvtv3 In THE COW TRIPPED OVER THE MOON, the Storyland Ambulance Crew races from one strange accident scene to the next, doing all they can to help the victims with their injuries. From the Cow Who Jumped Over the Moon, to the Baby in "Rock-a-bye Baby", to Humpty Dumpty, the Storyland Ambulance Crew is there. The illustrations are quite playful and if reading the story with children, you can make a game out of finding the dish & spoon and the cat with the fiddle that are on almost every page. Personally, my biggest disappointment is that the book ends quite abruptly with no conclusion or wrap-up; the ending just happens with no resolution.

By Bob Walch This is definitely a different take on some traditional nursery rhymes but children seem to love incongruity like this so why not? Silly as the situations the author comes up with here, I think your youngster will think then funny. If a few giggles accompany the reading of this picture book there's no harm done when all these accident prone characters appear on the page.
