By Amazon Customer I measured my interest in this book by how many times I felt its application fit my life and those around me. I have mentioned the book to several folks, and feel like the steps in analysis and possible solutions can be applied by many that struggle to contain their anger. The Biblical context can be understood by many that haven't necessarily always put God first. The verses, examples, tools and results make sense and have been applied by those who have been successful following God's Way, and when you analyze the lessons, it's clear there has not been enough application of this message over the centuries.Sadly, I have had times in my life where this book and the lessons presented could have come in very handy when reacting to family and business issues as they present themselves. I wish as a younger parent I had it available since there is a lot more to harnessing anger than counting to 10.I have a bi-polar son and I sure could have coped with his issues much more productively utilizing the messages contained in it.It's not a hard read, especially if you have a healthy respect for the Lord, and I think it is a super guide to bettering yourself and those around you.

By Travis Marshall Quin In Taking Anger Seriously:A Divine Answer for Human Anger, George Quin provides his readers with a Biblical approach to dealing with anger. It is a wonderful resource packed with wisdom and truth from the Scriptures about God's plan for overcoming anger in our lives. Quin is graciously honest about his own struggles with anger and how the Scriptural principles he lays out in the book enabled him to have victory in this area of his life. This is no academic exercise in dispassionately observing the Biblical data regarding anger. Rather it comes from a man who deeply desires to impart practical wisdom that will help those who like him have struggled to subdue their temper. The structure of the book is quite simple: eleven chapters, the first six deal with certain kinds of anger (e.g. "Self-Righteous Anger," "Dangerous Anger," etc.) and the last five focus on specific ways to approach anger (e.g. "Countering Anger," "Replacing Anger," etc.). The book rightly begins with God's Anger, which Quin calls "the point of reference" for our anger (p. 5). There he also reveals a key part about the Bible's teaching about God's character, namely, that He is "slow to anger," which in the Hebrew is related to a metaphor involving the nose. The metaphor continues throughout the rest of the book and is one of the most interesting exegetical insights of the whole book. Quin also uses the first chapter to discuss God's wrath toward sin and grounds the rest of the book's discussion in a clear and heartfelt articulation of the Gospel. Quin's approach to anger is gospel-centered throughout and this is one of the key advantages of his approach. In chapters 2 and 3, Quin looks at "Righteous" and "Self-Righteous" anger, respectively. Without giving too much, Quin argues from Scripture that human anger when carried out is never righteous. Only God's anger is righteous because only He can perfectly carry it out. Quin articulates this clearly and supports it Scripturally, dealing with other texts that seem to be at odds with this view. I take this starting point to be a huge positive, for it removes any room for us to justify our anger, an easy thing for us to do. Quin's chapter on Self-Righteous Anger is one of the best in the entire book and the insights from the story of Jonah and how it relates to our self-righteous anger are both brilliant and challenging. Quin is a Bible teacher at heart and that shines through in every chapter. The book is saturated in Scripture quotations, theological truths, and at times entire Biblical narratives, making it a great resource for anyone curious about what the Bible has to say about this all-too-important topic.Chapter 4, 5, and 6, speak especially about the dangerous effects of harboring anger and even imbibing anger from others. Quin's experience as a jail minister has made him acquainted with what seems to be an epidemic of violence, not just in the streets in the form of gang violence, but in our homes in the form of domestic violence. With a Spirit-motivated compassion and sound wisdom, Quin pleads with those on the brink of expressing their self-destructive anger to count the cost and see that their anger will take so much more than it could ever give. Especially helpful in these chapters is the statistics used to expose the reality of anger and its consequences in our society. A number of personal anecdotes from the men Quin has ministered to drive home the Biblical truths he is communicating, while also revealing the incredible ways which God is working in the lives of real men and women to bring light and redemption in very dark places.Chapters 7-11 look at five ways to approach anger Biblically - ruling, countering, silencing, forsaking, and replacing anger. Each one is filled with practical truths aimed at genuine life change. Foundational is Quin's focus on the heart in the chapter entitled "Ruling Anger" and his teaching on grace in "Replacing Anger." Quin recognizes that tips and advice are not enough to deal with our anger. Deep, soul-level change must happen if we are to have true victory in our life. At the same time, Quin also recognizes that the change often comes in the little moments and provides a number of helpful Bible-based practices that anyone who struggles with anger to begin to put in place. This balanced approach is yet another way that Quin's work proves indispensable. One more commendation for the book: it is written very well. As always, substance is primary, but without good style that substance can get lost. Quin's ability to communicate is demonstrated over and over throughout the book. His writing is colorful, clear, fun, and engaging. Each paragraph seems to be filled with statements that concisely articulate Biblical truth in a fresh way. The book is accessible to readers of all levels and yet it contains a spiritual depth that even mature Christians will find challenging and rewarding. I found myself underlining and starring almost every other sentence because of how well something was put or because of the nuggets of truth that seemed to be gleaming out from every page. Just one example comes at the end of chapter 28: "They love say is blind to the faults of others, but it is equally true that anger is blind to the value of others." As I said, these kinds of truths speckle every page, making Quin's writing a rare combination of simplicity and profundity.Of course, the overarching goal is that this book helps people. Quin makes it clear that this is his intention and in my opinion this goal will be accomplished in the life of everyone who reads this book, takes it truths to heart, and begins to implement them in their everyday decisions. If you struggle with anger, read this book. Not just once or twice, but again and again as a reference source on God's answer for our anger.

"Seriously" a Must Read By Tonia Sykes George Quin uses his biblical savvy to offer an insightful, practical, thought-provoking and extensive study in Taking Anger Seriously, A Divine Answer for Human Anger, A Bible Study. Quin's background includes a Bachelor's Degree in Theology, a student of Ancient Hebrew, his love for teaching the Bible and, together with his wife Nancy, more than seven years in jail and prison ministry throughout Texas. His choice of order for the book devoted six chapters to types of anger and five chapters to reveal how one might resolve anger issues. I originally thought the book would be relatively simple to read, however, there was considerable support from the Bible. After starting the first chapter 'God's Anger', I realized that more time would be required to reflect on what was being written.I found that my 'past lives' touched on various issues discussed throughout "Taking Anger Seriously...". If you have or your family has anger issues now or in the past, I believe George Quin's book will help. It can be read and shared and used as a reference for years to come.
