Jay Bontrager, a strong, sexy California blond, has mostly adjusted well to living with paraplegia since his spinal cord injury. But Jay feels disgusted by devotees—“freaks” who are attracted to people with disabilities—until he meets the enigmatic and beautiful devotee Erin Silver. Unfortunately, after Erin overhears Jay expressing his contempt for people like her, the disgust is mutual: She can't stand to be in the same room with him. Things get even more complicated when her brother, unaware of their brief but hostile acquaintance, installs Jay as Erin’s new housemate. Erin has long struggled with the guilt and self-loathing caused by her strange attraction to disabled men and just wants to be normal. The last thing she needs is a disabled (and, God help her, hot) roommate reminding her she’s defective. Once she gets to know him better, though, she begins to see Jay in a different light. Maybe he's not a complete jerk after all. But what will happen when, against her better judgment, she finally lets herself trust him—even love him—and finds out he's been deceiving her all along? *Author's note: Due to mature subject matter, strong language, and sexual content, this book is not intended for readers under the age of 18.*

Even though the characters started off on the wrong foot, I found myself emotionally invested in them and what was going to happen. Very cool twist on a romance.

The artwork is both sophisticated and simple, and definitely will get your creative juices flowing. If you'd like to find a coloring book that will give you a chance to relax and find a new "leash" on life, Creative Creatures is a super coloring book for you. Bonus: the illustrations are only on one side, so that you can save your work for display, and there's no bleed-through. Happily, I received a sample for review, and I do most definitely recommend it!

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. A delight for adults or children By Tracy Rowan This is a delightful adult coloring book that's also simple enough for children. Creative creatures is loaded with lovely, stylized images of various living creatures, simply patterened and somewhat reminiscent of the work of Laurel Burch. It's printed on good quality paper, and only on one side so that media that will bleed doesn't ghost onto another image. Very well thought out and a lot of fun.Disclaimer: I received this product in exchange for an honest review.

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Beautiful, fun. Great for kids! The paper quality is excellent By Elba Valverde This is one fun coloring book. It include about 30 different animals, and all of them are so cute. Great for kids, the designs are creative, modern, abstract and in some ways, simple, which make them easy to color. I love the last part of the book, where you can draw your own creative creatures. I'll definitely buy more of these for my nephews, nieces and my son when he's a bit older.

3 of 3 people found the following review helpful. Funny as usual, but some thing wrong with the digital version? By Kindle Customer For the record, this review is for the product itself. If you're a fan of the series, you can expect the usual tropes and setups of previous books working well to give you a fun romantic comedy. However, compared to previous digital releases, there were a few panels with blank bubbles throughout the book. I think I counted 4 or 5 during my read through. In one particular section of a chapter, I assumed the dialogue was supposed to be heart warming, but the lack of text just made me confused momentarily before I inferred from the drawings. My experience with viz products have usually been good, so this QA miss is a bit puzzling. I'm hoping this gets revised for the digital version and for the eventual print

0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Always good By Jude ~3.5-4/5In this volume, we meet a few new characters, as the new first-years come in. We meet Onodera’s little sister, Haru. Who’s extremely protective of her sister, and very biased against Raku. There’s also some possible crush coming there, though hopefully it’ll just go into friendship with related interests. There’s Haru’s best friend, in a situation much like Onodera and Ruri’s relationship. And then Paula shows up, coming to school to be closer to Tsugumi. I like Paula, and I’m interested to see her form real friendship with other students.I love all the characters in this series, how different each one is, and how complex they’re made. I do find the harem style a bit much at times, especially since there’s about a dozen girls at this point and only two boys, with only one of those boys as a real interest to the girls. Sometimes the ecchi stuff is a bit much too, for example when Raku accidentally sees up Haru’s skirt, like three times, and yet gets blamed each time. But this series is still fantastic. The development with the characters, the way the girls are really forming friendships along the way. I really like Onodera, and I like the way Paula is growing, but I’m still a big fan of Chitoge, and I loved seeing her trying to work with her crush on Raku in one of the chapters. That was cute.I’m sure this series has no end in sight, and while I’d love to see a conclusion to the romance, I’m just enjoying it at this point.[More of my reviews are available on my blog, Geeky Reading, to which there's a link on my profile.]

0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Spoiler-Free Review By Zac Hanscom Nisekoi: False Love, Vol. 9 is basically in three parts. First, there is a race where the first boy to finish gets to kiss the girl of his choice, but every other boy conspires to keep Raku from winning. Next, Haku Onodera, Kosaki Onodera's sister, is introduced. She hates Raku, but has fallen in love with her "Prince Charming," which of course is Raku. Finally, there is a short sequence where Paula returns to Japan; she wants to help Tsugumi become Raku's concubine.I never expected to like rom-coms as much as I do when they're done right, and this is done right. It's extremely light, easy to read, and pretty damn funny at times. No, it isn't downright hilarious, and it doesn't have the drama of the earlier volumes, but it's still good. It's probably going to be an unending tale of unrequited teenage love. Raku has his harem of girls that like him, but he'll never go out with any of them. The series is charming, but limited. I still like it. ****

The best stories teach us something without making us think we are learning. Regardless of your faith, the reader and child learn character traits from the barnyard. I particularly liked how one can be "scolded" in a loving way to show the error in an action and can seek forgiveness and never lose acceptance or love of a family. Brenda shows that love is the answer. For her its faith-pure love. She shows us a Christlike character. At Christmas how wonderful to see pure Sugarman. I look forward to where these stories go and the ultimate sacrifice for love and savior- to me this is a unique twist on the themes we see on Chronicles of Narni and even Harry Potter. I cant wait til I can read them to my grandson!

Sock Monkey Rides Again, by Cece Bell

From School Library Journal PreSchool-Grade 2—In his third adventure, Sock Monkey, the famous toy actor, gets his big break. He's been cast to play a singing cowboy in Hubbub at the Happy Canyon Hoedown. His friends help him prepare for the part by teaching him how to yodel, ride a horse, and lasso a cow. Decked out in his sensational cowboy suit, he is almost ready when filming starts the next day. Sock Monkey aces all his scenes, but when it's time for him to kiss his leading lady, the girl-shy hero just can't do it. Poor Lulu's tears make him realize that there is only one way to apologize, and he kisses her on the cheek. "Cut! That's a wrap!" calls the director. Sock Monkey and Lulu ride off into the sunset, knowing their movie will make them stars. This lighthearted confection doesn't break any new ground, but its colorful, childlike drawings and breezy plot make it a quick, enjoyable read. Sock Monkey makes a new friend, and everybody gets along. Even the background characters are funny. I thumb through them when I need a giggle. I bought one for a friend's child and one for me! It is the 3rd in the series so far. If you haven't already, just go ahead and purchase all three. To see some of Cece Bell's art around her house, go to her web site. Sign up for the fan club while you are at it. I did!

He has just landed a super movie role and can't wait. This means he'll get to wear cowboy clothes, ride a horse, lasso a cow, and...KISS A GIRL?! The starring role is too good to pass up, but he can't imagine kissing a girl. Whatever will he do? His friends help where possible, but they can only do so much.Cece Bell's lively story and illustrations are sweetly funny. The story has a good morale at the end when Sock Monkey must overcome his fear of kissing in order to spare another character's feelings. Readers will learn that when we have to do things we don't want to, things can turn out just fine.Older preschoolers and younger elementary students will enjoy the sweet silliness of this book.Reviewed by Christina Wantz Fixemer12/11/20064.5 Balloons on WUAT Kids = 5 Stars on Amazon

The first book was WONDERFUL!We kinda liked the second.. but this book is hard for a youngchild to follow.. and the theme of KISSING is not really ageappropriate for what you'd expect of a sock monkey. It's notworth buying folks. Get it from the library, free. Buy thefirst book, maybe the second, but don't waste your money onthis. What was she thinking when she wrote this?? I think she was justbanking on the success of the first one. (no pun intended)Pictures aren't even as well done. oh well.. spend and learn.

2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. Historical novel that puts the Gospel front and center. By Josh Douglas Bond writes books I like. That seems straightforward enough. I have found it consistently true, that time I spend with a work of his is time well spent. Whether it is a biography, a work of practical theology, or a novel; I have yet to be disappointed by one of his works. His newest novel, Hammer of the Huguenots, is the third volume of his Heroes and History series. I bought the other two when P&R had a sale a few months back, but I have not had a chance to read them. That is a truth that must quickly change.Hammer of the Huguenots is a work of historical fiction that follows Phillippe; a young, Roman Catholic man, as he witnesses the French Catholic persecution of Reformed Christians around him and the effects of the Gospel ministry of Pierre Viret. What drew me to this book, beyond enjoying how Bond writes, is its historical context. I am still a novice to the genre of fiction, and I am still highly selective on those works with which I will spend time. If you are not a book about a quest for a ring, hopping through a wardrobe, or solving crimes with your buddy named Watson, I have had little time for you. But historical fiction I can justify. Sure, the stories are not “history,” but the truths they convey are historical. And the context and many of the characters and many of the events are all historical. So, I can tell myself that I am not reading for entertainment or fun or any of those silly reasons. Nope, I am learning! But then here is the kicker. Hammer of the Huguenots is a work that engages the reader. I can tell myself I am not reading for entertainment, but then I have to deal with the fact that I am being entertained. And I can tell myself that I am not reading to enjoy the catharsis of vicarious experience, but then I have to acknowledge how this book causes such a visceral, emotional, personal reaction. Bond writes in a way that causes an emotional response. You find yourself feeling the anxiety, fear, and sadness; relief, peace, and joy.History is good. Storytelling is good. Better than anything is the Gospel. And Douglas Bond would agree. Hammer of the Huguenots makes that clear. Bond focuses on the Gospel throughout this book. The Gospel is presented in many ways and in multiple contexts. We see the true Gospel presented in contrast to Rome’s doctrine of “faith +.” We see the Gospel of Christ’s all-sufficiency and vicarious atonement through preaching, teaching, and the response of the characters. Watching Phillippe confronted with the Gospel time and again, and watching him struggle with the implications of his beliefs is more than good literature; it is convicting, challenging, and encouraging.I greatly enjoyed this work. If you want to read some good fiction, get a dose of history, and be overwhelmed by the Gospel and its implications, Hammer of the Huguenots will prove to be an investment that pays great dividends.I received a review copy from the publisher.

In his other books I really bonded with the characters, especially his last book Hand of Vengeance. This book just seemed like a history lesson to me. I did not feel like the characters were well developed so that you really got o know them. It seemed like a history book with some fictional characters added in to help make it interesting. I had a hard time staying with the book and finishing it. This just did not seem to measure up to the other books he wrote. If you want to learn about the Huguenots then this is a good book for that, but his other books were much better and more exciting.

0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. and yet another great book By avinc592 I love everything I have read by Douglas Bond. His fiction is accurate and well-researched, his style is clear and engaging and his plot lines are genuine and spiritually encouraging. I highly recommend his books to all my friends and quickly buy the new ones as they come out! I love the way he combines his love of history and writing with his greatest love, the furthering of God's truth.

3 of 3 people found the following review helpful. Honest and eye opening By MariaM At 13, Katie is fed up with her embarrassing life. Wearing only hand-me-downs, being constantly criticized by her overcriticizing, coupon-wielding mom and ignored by her father who has a new family and a cute, talented new daughter to dote on, she wants nothing more than to be invisible. Until Anika who hangs out with the popular OH girls takes her under her wing ... to show her how to shoplift. Mortification holds nothing to the embarrassment of letting Anika down, but when everything that can go wrong does, Anika points the finger to her. Katie's world crumbles, and that's how she turns to binging and purging. Which oddly enough is comforting. She's finally found a way to cleanse herself of the eternal embarrassment and stress her middle school causes, but hiding her new habit proves too hard. Especially when her family says crazy stuff like she's getting thin, and she has to stop. Because that's the biggest problem of all. She can't.This is a must-read book. We all have read about or seen people with (and some may have experienced) eating disorders, but it's the first time I read the full account through a thirteen-year-old girl's perspective. The overwhelming I-look-like-shit angst that feels silly to an adult but is choking to a young girl, the need to fit in, the broken family where adults try too hard the wrong way, the hit-and-miss friends who make things worse through no fault of their own muddle a young girl's outlook to the point of total misery. And if self-image is the prominent issue, the development of an eating disorder looms as the go-to solution.Told exclusively through the heroine's point of view, as if reading a diary, the reader delves into the mind of a thirteen-year-old and faces the struggle between knowing that all this heavy perception of superficial things is age-related and trivial and accepting that, to a young girl, it's her whole world. And that's where the trap lies. If an adult dismisses all that as nonsense, the battle to bring a lost teenager around could be lost.Whether you are raising a girl or are close to someone raising a girl, this book is an eye-opener.

It captured perfectly what girls stress and deal with in school. Seeing Katie plunge herself into darkness and recover was a great way how the author captured these days of her life. The story was very well told and very realistic. Reading this will give you the insights on someone who controls her stress in a different way. The moment when Katie decided to do it, she knew it was because of the divorce, the name calling, and all these different aspects of her life that was changing. I really admire her for trying not to do it at the end. Her moms criticisms really got to me and she wasn't really helping Katie cope with it. The sister bond and the friendship bond was stronger than ever and I'm glad Katie still had them for being supportive even after she went away. This book definitely triggered my mind and made me think that words are hurtful and even one comment can send a person back to binge-eating. I think this book expresses the feelings and emotions perfectly of Katie's life throughout the story. I definitely enjoyed it and it is one of my favorite books I have read this year. I would definitely give this book 5 stars!

The serious subject matter really made the book more noteworthy in my opinion. I found it a very compelling read and got through it almost in one sitting. A definite five star book. Highly recommend to both teens and parents. It's appropriate for ages 13 and up.

“Why are you saying moo?” asked Calf. “You're not a cow!”“I like moo,” said Little Rabbit … Here's a farmyard frolic that will have kids quacking, oinking, and hee-hawing along with a cast of adorable animals. The fun begins when Calf hears Rabbit out in the field mooing—and feels inspired to give a great big BAA. Why? Because he likes the sound! Before long, Lamb, Piglet, Baby Donkey, and all the other creatures on the farm realize they're not limited to their own language, but can enjoy experimenting with others. The cute surprise ending shows that Little Rabbit—who started the delightful chorus by thinking outside the box—still plays by his own rules. Thanks to Jonathan Allen's wonderful illustrations and engaging join-in text, this will become a favorite that kids will read again and again.

The Little Rabbit Who Liked to Say Moo, by Jonathan Allen

From School Library Journal PreSchool-Grade 1—Little Rabbit likes to say "moo," because rabbits don't have a big noise. The little creature also likes to say "baa," "oink," "hee-haw," and "quack," and gets the other young farm animals to join the refrain until a surprise ending reveals the bunny's favorite sound. The illustrations are large, uncluttered, simple, and bold, made of black lines and computer air-brushed color. While Little Rabbit is not as cute as Allen's Baby Owl in I'm Not Cute! (Boxer, 2005), its facial expressions create an endearing character. With its large print and natural repetition, this cumulative tale will be useful for building early literacy skills. Pair it with Denise Fleming's The Cow Who Clucked (Holt, 2006) and Jules Feiffer's Bark, George (HarperCollins, 1999) for a rousing farmyard group session featuring animals that have the wrong voice.—Angela J. Reynolds, Annapolis Valley Regional Library, Bridgetown, NS, Canada Copyright © Reed Business Information, a division of Reed Elsevier Inc. All rights reserved.

Review This book is a brilliant demonstration of how, in the right hands, a simple dialogue and vocabulary, and a patterned predictable text can be combined to tell a REAL story of wit and humour. Absolutely guaranteed to raise chuckles of delight, not too mention moos, baas, oinks and more from readers and listeners alike. Books for Keeps

About the Author Jonathan Allen has created many wonderful picture books for children, and his international success is based on his observant wit, appealing art, and childlike sense of fun. He lives happily in a quiet village in Cambridgeshire, England.

Cute story but recommended for babies-toddlers By Z Hayes Though the age group for this book is given as 4-8, I find that the concept and story are more apt for babies and toddlers than preschoolers and up. The story itself is a cute one - a little rabbit tries to find his 'voice' and starts mimicking other animals' voices, garnering a following in the process. It is only at the end, that his other animal pals find that they are more comfortable with their own natural voice, but which voice does rabbit find suits him best? This is a fun picture book and makes for a good read-aloud.

The illustrations are charming and clear, easy for a group to see. As the farm animals keep trying out different sounds, the story gets sillier and sillier. Yes, it is simple and repetitive, and two-year-olds enjoy it, but I've read it to kindergarteners who love it too. I ask them how a rabbit would say "moo." They have to think about it and they have a lot of fun coming up with a rabbit-sounding "moo." Very cute book!
