By Amazon Customer As a child psychiatrist who works with children on the spectrum and their families, I can't recommend this book enough. I hand it out to the parents of my patients. It so poignantly and intimately brings us into the life of a girl or woman on the spectrum, through the eyes of Alison, from her childhood to her adulthood -- through the gamut of issues of negotiating and surviving the NT social and work worlds to the personal challenges of puberty and menopause. The chapter on bullying was so personal that it brought me to tears. It's compassion inspires a professional like me to be a better clinician. And the writing is so beautifully clear in the insight and explanations it gives, that my tween patients can understand it as well as their parents and providers. I can't recommend it enough!

By Montgomery This is a wonderful book that is easy to read through, especially when your life is busy. As someone who encounters teenagers a lot in my work (I work in education), this book has been a huge help in giving me a better understanding of several girls I work with who are on the autism spectrum. It also provides tools and other ideas that I can try out with them too, which have helped me to connect better with these girls. This book is great for anyone, especially people who works with or would live with a girl or women with ASD. It's easy to read and understand and includes the voices of many women who live with ASD every day. This book has really helped me understand what it's like to live with some of their struggles that I would never otherwise really think about or understand. I have already recommended it to several teachers in my area too!
