I love folk lore and I love stories from the area that I grew up in. This book is that. I've known the author of this book my whole life, if this review is biased..so be it. Sometimes I break my own reviewing rules. My dad worked for Bobby's dad and uncle JC in the saw-milling business when I was a young girl. We were dirt poor and Daddy really didn't have the education to do much at the time. I had no clue of that fact though because my dad worked for two men that made us part of their families. I remember one year for Christmas when I heard my mom and dad whispering that Christmas was going to be slim that year. The early 70's in the rural south were pretty tough times. Bobby's uncle and dad somehow pulled our family through and each of my sisters and I got a gift that Christmas. I'll never forget that.Later on in high school Bobby Adams started teaching at my high school. All the kids knew we wanted him as our teacher. Bobby Adams is fun and honestly I would have listened to him tell stories all day and enjoyed school. That didn't get to happen for me since I ended up having to quit school (I went back later in life) and I missed Bobby's teaching. He then went on to be our schools Superintendent. Now I believe he just spends most of his time entertaining his friends. And he does a fine job of it.The thing about Bobby is that I'm so very honored to call him my friend. He was my dad's friend before and when my dad passed away last year one of the first messages I got was from Bobby Adams. Just letting me know that my dad was a good man and that he was our friend.During the hardest time in my life a couple years ago...Bobby Adams was there and messaging me just to let me know he was thinking of me. That's what kind of person this man is. I don't know anyone in our area of the North GA mountains who doesn't know and love this man. I want to grow up to be just like him.Now for his book.Bobby Adams has a Masters in Education. He doesn't let himself put on "airs" He talks pure mountain southern and did not want his book proofread or edited. He wanted his stories to come across like you were sitting on the porch with him having a sweet tea and him telling his lies stories to you. He loves his family, he loves his friends and he even loves his dogs. He might not tell every story in the politically correct way but he doesn't hurt feelings and you always will either smile or tear up from his tales. You might even shake your head at him and Coach Price telling our fellow classmate Zac Brown (yes that one) that "he hopes you can make a living playing that guitar-cause that's the only thing he could do."I'm giving this book five stars. I'd give it more if possible. Because sometimes personal is the very best reasons of all.The only complaint I have about the book is that Bobby promised me some nek-kid pictures to go along with it so that I could have a good laugh, the book made me laugh but I had plans on scaring some crows with those pictures.

Bobby Adams is a gifted storyteller, and moreover, a person for whom so many of his friends and acquaintances and colleagues hold so dear. Humor is the lens through which he has directed his life. He is as honest as the day is long, as the saying goes. As the owner of Shades Creek Press, publishing this book was an honor. I was fortunate to have read it several times before sending it to final press and laughed out loud each time I read it. I knew without a doubt that it would be a hit. And, yes, Bobby and I both thought that it was essential to preserve the authenticity of the style and approach used by the author in the telling and recounting of these stories. I feel honored to have been asked to be a part of this project. Bobby is a rare find in humanity. He's experienced all the emotions a person can have. He's been the chief officer of a school system, run for political office, raised hunting dogs, gotten horses out of the road at midnight, and even painted my house in Hiawassee. Bobby Adams is my friend, but most of all, he is a genuine person. I congratulate Bobby Adams, published author, historian and storyteller.Anyone interested in Southern Folklore and Storytelling must purchase this book, read it, and then look him up and attend a book signing. You will not be disappointed.
