By JMM [[VIDEOID:d74f0ff1287e7ffdf6630e8fd2957bc8]]"The Road to Marvel's Avengers: Age of Ultron" is a book that compiles some of the best artwork from the previous Marvel art books into a single volume.* Note: higher-quality video available here: youtu.be/c5HSnR-WHbEWhat you need to know right away: there is nothing new in this book. So if you have been collecting the MCU art books all along, there's no reason to buy this other than for the sake of completeness.But if you are new to these books or did not purchase all of the books for each individual movie, then this compilation book will get you caught up at a more affordable price than buying each book separately. And I encourage you to buy it if you missed any of the early Phase One books that are now out of print.Of course, you're giving up a lot of content: each of the Marvel films on their own has enough art to justify an entire book. With this you're only getting several dozen pages of art per film, so you're going to be missing a lot of great imagery - although the selection of included artwork is pretty great.Obviously, Marvel scheduled this around the release of "Age of Ultron". As a result, the book sticks to things that are related to the new film. The book is very character-driven: including Iron Man, Thor, Captain America, the Hulk, etc.Things that are not important to the "Age of Ultron" film are not included in the book; for example, no content is included from "Guardians of the Galaxy"; nor is there any time spent on any of the villains from previous films. Not the artbook for the Ultron movie but still good By Parka [[VIDEOID:24534130796c7b0e294a148740709758]]This is not the artbook for the second Avengers movie featuring Ultron. There's another one specifically for Ultron.The Road to Marvel's Avengers is just a rehash of all the materials and art from the earlier artbooks for the other Marvel movies, namely Iron Man 1, 2 and 3, Captain America 1 and 2, Thor 1 & 2 and even The Art of Avengers.If you have been collecting all the other artbooks all along, then there's absolutely no reason for this book. There's nothing new in this book, except some layout changes, e.g. some artworks are printed bigger or shifted around.This 240-page slipcase hardcover collects only the character design art. You'll get to see a lot of Iron Man suits as that seems to be the most popular. The rest of the characters are given good coverage too. The book focuses on the Avengers and has none of the villains and there's also no Ultron.The art overall is awesome. But you already know that if you have the earlier artbooks. I had a strong sense of deja vu going through this book and I'm not a big fan of books that rehash material.I guess if you're only interested in the Avengers movies and not the other character-specific ones, then getting this book makes more sense. Or if you don't want to collect so many artbooks, then this book will be great for you because it has a good selection of art from the other books.So is this a case of Marvel milking the franchise? I would think so. I bought this book at the bookstore where there wasn't any book description. By Xinra This art book is very detailed with the design ideas, concepts, and inside thinking into the evolution of the Avenger's characters. I never purchased the first foray into Marvel's art books, so I missed a lot of early material those provided. I mention this because I don't know if some of the material presented here repeats itself at all. However, since the first generation of Marvel art books based on Iron Man, Captain America, Thor, and The Avenger's are more expensive than I'm willing to currently spend separately for each art book... this one fits that bill for me just fine.The book gives great drawings, computer concept renderings, and some insights into the thinking from the design team members for each character as well. I think this is a great book that compliments my current Marvel collection, as it's material I hadn't previously seen or read about. I'm guessing that this book covers the early works from previous books, since each chapter introduces each Avenger as if they're being presented for the first time... then eventually evolving to their current status & look.I definitely recommend this book for those who missed getting the first series of separate film art books, like me.
